  1. Bromley has every right to stick two fingers up at the rest of grotty London. It is more like a market town and I love it there. Why should its character be changed just to suit other London suburbs nearby that are basically grotty unsightly dumps. I think a tube station damages the isolation of suburban London, this is why so many south Londonders love and are proud of this side of the water. The tube isn't in our DNA and never should be. Louisa.
  2. Looking on Google at the interior of a few of these stores it's interesting to see the spacious layout, lots of fresh food, vegetable and deli stands with wide aisles. Not the cram it all in approach of certain other supermarkets. Whether the alcohol licence is a mistake is yet to be seen, but I don't see the difference it will make considering the nearby large Sainsbury's. Louisa.
  3. It's called a Horse Fly and this has been a good summee for them, hence large numbers. They've been known to kill people who have a severe reaction, obviously a tiny tiny minority. At best they leave a nasty bite which can swell up. Louisa.
  4. Labour and I departed on bad terms some time ago and since Blair I have struggled to entertain anything they say, the lack of substance and abandonment of the past reinforce insincerity for me. We are in a political vacuum of sorts. Both main parties have had significant terms in office post 1979 and have between them have successfully managed to run our post industrial economy into the ground. Post 2010 the liberal party has joined them and also managed to put their tuppence worth in to further deconstruct and damage our economy. Where do we go next? There is nowhere that's the truth Hence why the polls are in a dead heat near enough and coalitions of any colours are as good as it gets for us on the trust scale. Sad but true. Anyway who is this Ed you all talk of? Louisa.
  5. Voyageur Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I love shopping in Waitrose - does that make me a > painful snob? Or does it make you a painful > inverse-snob :) Not what I said. I too like a nose around Waitrose, it isn't the shop itself that's the problem, it's the painful yet amusing want of some people. And John, how is nearly 7 years worth of constant banging on about Waitrose coming to the area my imagination or an inflation of the truth? Read the thread and post history on the forum if you don't believe me. I didn't see the same amount of interest verging on hysteria on the Brixton or Clapham dedicated forums and guess what, who's getting the Waitrose first? Louisa.
  6. Oh John, come on, I know how smug some people are about how superior they feel this area is to the surrounding ones. The length and breadth of conversation regarding the 'will they wont they' come to ED has been going back years now. I'm personally more than happy to see Morrisons come to the area, that'll do me just fine. But there will be some painful snobbery at the thought of yet another South London postcode getting a Waitrose before we do. It is amusing to be a spectator. Louisa.
  7. Welcome to ED the promised land for the middle classes, oops I mean Brixton, which is about to become home to a 'little Waitrose' convenience store. Here's proof - http://www.brixtonblog.com/waitrose-convenience-supermarket-coming-to-brixton/16054 More evidence ED's reputation is further slipping down the gentrification scale. Be afraid folks, I reckon at this rate Peckham will get one before we do. Haha such fun. Louisa.

  9. Morrisons entered the small format stores market to rival Tesco and Sainsburys about a year ago or so? They are expanding the small format stores and I think they will have 100 open by the end of the year. They're taking the fresh food 'market street' format to the smaller shops which means they'll have a different feel to them than the offerings from their rivals with the same small format stores. Louisa.
  10. I love Morrisons and personally I am more than happy to see them move into the area. Not many Morrisons local stores around and ideal location by the station. Slightly confused as to why M&S or Waitrose couldn't have opted for that site but this is good news nonetheless. Louisa.
  11. This infuriates me to the point of explosion. Despite property price rises and the effort local people put into making their area attractive to outsiders, some selfish minded ignoramus types feel it's perfectly acceptable to go around littering large household items on our streets when it is so EASY to contact the council and get it removed FREE OF CHARGE. If I see anyone dumping rubbish I will instantly be reporting you to the number provided above and I will film you on my phone. BE WARNED. Well done giggirl. Louisa.
  12. Vik I read that too, I think it was Premier Inn. Louisa.
  13. Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Louisa - Iceland prawn ring, steak diane I like to make my own fishy rings, so Iceland would be out of luck. But I do love a nice big bit of raw beef, so I'd be well up for a good bit of meat as a main. Louisa.
  14. I wouldn't fancy picking up the bill for that plot of land. Sorry. Louisa.
  15. Got to agree with *Bob*, what buzz John? It's always had that feeling of nearly but not quite IMO. And now despite ridiculously high house prices the high street is still at the same nearly point it was at in 2008. End of. Louisa.

  17. Better than Las Iguanas Jah! Louisa.
  18. I've had an issue with rats before and they tend to come into the house via cracked drains or where there are lots of overgrown gardens where they can nest easily. My advice would be to get someone in to remove the cupboards in the kitchen and see if there are any holes in the walls and make sure they are cemented over after being stuffed with wire wool. This would certainly help, if I were you I'd also cut back any bushes or overgrown gardens. If there is an open drain nearby make sure it is covered with a solid mesh of some description. If after inspection it has been chewed on you will know where they are coming from. Make sure all possible avenues into the property are covered. Bait is probably not a good option with a young child around. I had a famous pest controller on the case for me and they charged an absolute fortune and in the end I had to get a builder out to cover holes which solved the problem. Investigate further before paying a fortune for drain CCTV. It's awful having a pest infestation, especially vermin. My thoughts are with you. Good luck. Louisa.
  19. Good news for people who like Mexican cuisine IMO. Reasonably local too. http://www.brixtonblog.com/mexican-food-chain-wahaca-eyes-brixton-branch/15790 http://www.wahaca.co.uk/ Louisa.
  20. You'd have to be on some sort of illegal substance to pay over a million quid for a house anywhere in SE London other than Dulwich Village. True story. Louisa.
  21. Jack Wills have been looking at Dulwich for a long long time - but like Waitrose have yet to find anywhere suitable. Louisa.
  22. They're in a museum John- alongside anything vaguely comfortable. Louisa.
  23. Ah I think you miss the point Peckhamgatecrasher, Hipster venues are supposed to be uncomfortable. Taking a pillow or jumper means you dont get the full effect of eating good food in a edgy environment with the wonderful smells of Rye Lane wafting in the air as you tuck into a sicilian aubergine and borlotti bean dish. It's ironic doncha' know? :) Louisa.
  24. Peckham Refreshment Rooms k think you're referring to? http://peckhamrefreshment.com/ and yes you're right it's exciting to see Peckham on the map again, especially for an old timer like me :) Louisa.
