I think I'm going for a lay down. Bizarre. Louisa.

Bob Buzzard I would assume the Gowlett is within the SE15 postcode area and is therefore Peckham (technically speaking), but it certainly has a lot more in common with ED/Bellenden than it does hardcore Peckham (Peckham Hill ST north). Why do you propose using strings on lampposts? Is Google on the average smart phone not good enough for boundary definition? Where is edhistory when needed. Louisa.
-
The lines tend to be drawn based on postcode boundaries. So technically, Adys RD is the dividing line between ED and Peckham. In a border context, I think someone living in Commercial Way would be unlikely to class the Bellenden end of Peckham as 'true Peckham', just as someone living on Friern would be unlikely to class Ondine as 'true ED' etc. It appears ED has now lost its edgy trend as the bland brigade has successfully transformed ED into Barnes the second. So yeah all the cool kids are in Peckham (for now). Louisa.

Foxy if you can't believe in yourself, then who can you believe in? Besides, narcissistic traits surely involve spending over the odds on food items just to be 'seen' buying them (take note certain people) ;-) Louisa.

One thing about the USA I personally admire, is that class, sex and racial boundaries do not appear to prevent people from standing as a nominee for head of state. This of course has pro's and con's, it does mean some nut jobs can stand and get close to office, but I personally have more faith in the general populace than that. Here in the UK our head of state comes from a family of unelected wealthy aristocrats. Our PM only needs 36% of the vote to govern a country in which Scotland overwhelmingly voted for something different and a further 8 million voted for various smaller parties and got just 3 MP's. Our claim to being the mother of all democracies is a spurious one. Louisa.

ED - NAGAIUTB Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Louisa - derailing threads since 2007. > > Long may her ban continue. Nice bit of goading their, cba to rise to it though. Guessing you haven't read any of the above in response to the other usual suspects who derail multiple threads and get away with it. I suggest you take a peak at the 'new shops' thread in general issues. The likes of *Bob* are once again successfully disguising trolling as sarcasm and banter. Louisa.

Be careful what you wish for quids. I may just do that. Loufoxit would have a negative affect on the forum and could potentially lead to its collapse as a viable local resource. Anyway, didn't you flounce off for a while because you felt the forum had gone downhill? You were lurking around for months without posting. Attention seeking works both ways you know. Without the likes of me and foxy this forum would become very dull. Admin knows this, that's why I've only been confined to the lounge and not banished to the West Dulwich Forum. Louisa.

I was put in the Lounge for negative opinions and constantly taking threads off topic. The same happens on a daily basis in the main section, the aforementioned thread being a prime example. Not only that, but a specific member of the forum has been targeted for this 'piss-taking', which may or may not be taken on the chin as a joke. If I did the same thing I would have been banned from the forum, simple as that. Can you not see the double standards here? Louisa.

But others goading me and fox and other users is OK is it? Double standards, as I said previously. And what do you mean by "does you no favours"? You've restricted my access to the lounge for a year whilst others are causing trouble in the main section, so from where I'm sat no favours have come my way regardless of circumstance so I don't really care if I pull you up on double standards. Louisa.

You > agree? Pickle whether I agree with foxy and his initial comment on that thread is irrelevant, and frankly a side show here. The bigger point is this. Once again certain people patronisingly gang up on one individual to sort of troll/bully one point made by that person. It's out of order, and people justify it by saying they are 'calling person A up on contradictory comment B' etc. It's ugly behaviour, and easily fits into the 'nasty trolling' category in my book. And yet, some of the folk jumping on the 'me sir, me, me, I also think person A is talking bollocks' are often more than happy to freely dig me out for being a nasty individual who trolls. Double standards. And still no response from Admin, surprise surprise. Louisa.

Yes Mick Mac, I would agree it isn't the transport but other ingredients. I mean honestly, I don't know what gets the gentrification process going, but ED beat the whole 'let's gentrify everywhere' race that started about 5 years ago. Guessing it had a good starting point being edgy but not rough. Brockley had the same ingredients and yet oddly didn't take off until very recently. And yes the houses in Brockley/Telegraph Hill are pretty stunning. Louisa.

Dear Admin, As I am not able to reply or comment in the main section (getting on for a year now), I thought I would raise this issue here for you to read. Once again, numerous people have taken a legitimate and important thread off topic in the main section, to take personal digs at others. I am not going to mention names publicly it isn't fair, but I would appreciate if you could respond and let me and others know why this is allowed, without any intervention from yourself. At the same time, I am still languishing in the Lounge when I've not done anything wrong. We all know certain folk on here disagree and like to perpetuate the line that 'Louisa regularly says and does horrible things' etc etc (primarily to keep me locked in here no doubt), but please, can you stop the double standards on this forum. Louisa.

Parts of Herne Hill were certainly way more desirable than here in the late 90's. However, the bits closer to Brixton were still quite scruffy. Again the DV effect played a big part. Brockley was not at all desirable until the ginger line spread its wings. The ingredients were always there, art college, studios, big houses etc but it just didn't really get going until Overground opened up. You could easily get a large 4/5 bed Victorian house with big garden for under 500k well into 2012. That's why I never understood the rise of ED. Louisa.

There's a planning application to convert the Irish Shop into additional space for the cinema. I would find the link, but I really cba at present. Louisa.

Btw I also disagree with jez and kristymac above. ED has never been well connected, even now with the ginger line within spitting distance at FH, DH and PR- it's hardly the easiest commute into town. Areas such as Brockley and Herne Hill have always been better connected to central, contain bigger cheaper houses and have also been 'no mans land' (not totally crap but not amazing either). My opinion is ED was saved by her well to do neighbour and the allure of private schooling their, leafy parks and decent (relatively for late 90's) eateries. Without the village, ED would never have excelled. Louisa.

I promise I'm not being negative, it's more disappointment. I understand what Time Out is all about, and tbh it doesn't even do that very well anymore (bit washed up some would argue). The offerings you allude to Mick Mac are hardly worthy of a whole article. One persons posh grub served on a pine cone is another persons 'plastic food storage container', as *Bob* so eloquently puts it. Maybe I'm wrong on this one, but I just think some long standing businesses deserve a break, after all - they're survivors! They have survived rent increases demographic changes and rising and falling fashion trends. I mean FFS one of the businesses mentioned in this article closed down last year! You couldn't make this crap up! Louisa.

ED had all the usual butchers bakers and candle stick makers 30/40 years ago. And as others have said, they suited the people living here then. It tends to only be the snobs and blow in's who claim the area was crap before they arrived, just because it suits their own ends. Some of the best businesses are survivors from those times, a few of the curry houses and certainly A J Farmers. Not a single mention for any of them in this article. Louisa.

Jeremy, the best thing about a Beefeater is the voucher codes option (similar to pizza express). They often provide 25/30% off food bill codes online, can make it quite affordable. And they do a value daytime menu with a few courses for under a tenner etc. But overall I agree, it's not amazing. Louisa.

Noone cared about ED 20 years ago and it's > the new outlets that make it attractive. It's > attractive to wider London and that's cool, so > take it on board. No one cared about ED 20+ years ago? Oh apart from the people who lived there, had family there, worked there, raised kids there. Could afford to purchase a property there. The new outlets that make it 'attractive' only came here because of the demographic change and rising house prices, they wouldn't have bothered otherwise. Businesses are not charities, they go where they can make money. Louisa.

http://www.timeout.com/london/blog/12-reasons-to-visit-lordship-lane-east-dulwich-se22-030416 Seems a shame they have decided not to reflect upon on the retail heritage of the area. Most of the businesses they pick are relatively recent. Some of the shops on LL, trading for decades, which should I would argue should deserve a mention, did not get one. But a chain cinema did? Hmm. Louisa.

Down a pint of water to get your fluid levels up. Then a vitamin rich smoothie/fruit drink (large glass of), again downed. Then go for a walk, and try to eat something quite carb filled. Louisa.
