Nah I don't talk crap, I just have a valid opinion about yet another overrated 60's pop group, who were fortunate enough to hit the big time both sides of the Atlantic (luck more than judgement may I add). Music is subjective anyway. I think Jah and HonaloochieB are classic examples of pop brainwashing. I prefer to look at these things from afar rather than be lead along with the crowd. The Beatles were average artists who were pretty good at writing catchy lyrics off the back of the style of Elvis et al - who had already set the bar pretty damn high across the pond. Louisa.

I have never actively hated them, not to start with at least. I just found them excruciatingly overrated and influenced primarily by manufactured pop stars of the early rock' n roll era. Granted they wrote their own tunes, great. Lots of people were doing that years before them. In post war Britain they were seen as a big deal because let's face it, we had Cliff Richard setting the bar for popular music. Enough said. Most people that rate them weren't around the first time and believed all the hype they were fed in the following decades. I was there, it wasn't great. Louisa.
  3. Well, new year, new 1,000,000 page thread on the horizon. The HSBC site along the lane has come onto the market, and as you can read below, the article is clearly aimed at a chain of some description. Big plot of empty land behind the existing handsome Victorian bank too. Please God, no more Waitrose threads! http://www.hindwoods.co.uk/property-search/commercial/?&searchLocation=East%20Dulwich&resultsPerPage=50&propertyDetail=3893-a1-retail-unit-east%20dulwich-london-se22-8hj Louisa.
  4. The Beatles. Most overrated, drawn out for decades rubbish I've ever heard. Sir Paul seems to be dragged out for almost every 'state occasion' to rehash the monotonous heyday tunes too. Grating. Louisa.
  5. NO. I am contesting it. The area needs more parking facilities - end of discussion. I pay more than enough in car insurance, fuel and road tax thank you very much. If it wasn't for us car drivers LL would die a death. We need more spaces for short stay, and by all means if a person uses that space and flouts the law they deserve a ticket. I can't believe how many people are defending the money spinning mentality of local councils. It's outrageous IMO. Lowlander I tend to walk if it's local I just had reasons not to today. I don't think that should mean I get a ticket for using a local facility. Louisa.
  6. Quids when I want to use the Post Office the cinema end of Melbourne Grove is of course too far for any sensible car user. May as well just walk it! The whole point is some people are in a hurry and can't take a leisurely stroll every time they wish to use a local facility. Not to mention the fact that a disabled/elderly person shouldn't have to park that far away. Can anyone tell me where the nearest 30min waiting areas are to the post office? Louisa.
  7. EDOldie you're picking and choosing my points to suit your argument. Firstly, Car Parks and available spaces on roads are essential for some people (including parents with young kids). I didn't say that a car park in replacement of a school was the only option, we have plenty as I pointed out above if you care to read again. Secondly, I didn't ask people to have kids or move here with kids did I? Is it some god given right that they should have priority over land use every single time? Louisa.

We have a high street quite a walking distance from the nearest train station, which is a good reason why people do not choose to come here from far and wide. Many people rely on buses and cars to gain access to the lane. If that is the case, why do we not have more car parking options? As rah points out, some more 30 min stay spaces would be helpful for older/disabled/parent & child who need to drive to gain access to facilities locally. I'm not proposing knocking down buildings, of course not. But we need some relaxation on the yellow line rules on the surrounding streets. I think the new school in the old police station was a missed opportunity for a car park if I'm being honest. Why do we not have an underground car park along East Dulwich Road near/on the trading estate? We have options available but none are being utilised. As fox points out, it's a money spinning excuse for the local council to fine people for wanting to keep the high street thriving. All it does is drive people away. I never have this problem in Bromley. Louisa.
  9. Seabag i am old but not ridiculously so. Lowlander from this side of ED around a 15/20 minute walk over to LL, a walk which I often do but just fancied a drive today as I had a few commitments after. I love walking, I often see people I acknowledge on route. Today I was in a rush and as per, had a number of selfish road hoggers going around 10 mph in front of me down Upland RD which added fuel to the fire. It's more a general point really, 1) why do we pack a car parking option locally when we have a high street so far from the train station, and 2) why are parking attendants so ticket happy when they know damn well some people drive here. You wait until M&S pops up and all the 4X4's from the village pop by for a meal deal fix mid/late afternoon. It will be chaos. Louisa.
  10. I know I've raised this before but today in ED I was given a ticket for briefly parking on a yellow line. I don't for the life of me understand how keeping a high street useable and busy during working hours is obtainable by constantly clamping down on illegally parked vehicles. I only used the post office and it's a long walk for me from my house. When can we have more places to park vehicles locally? We have zero car park in and around LL and it's near impossible to park unless you occasionally leave it on a yellow line. I WILL NOT be paying my fine, I am contesting it. People of a certain age should be able to park on yellow lines for brief periods when they need to use local facilities. Louisa.
  11. LM I fear Peckham will go too far too soon and we will have another Claphamised Brixton on our hands. Earls Court Road has Zizzi, Wagamama, M&S food, GBK, Boots, McDonald's, KFC, Sainsburys local, Nandos, Holland & Barrett, Costa, Pret a Manger that's just off the top of my head. Louisa.
  12. If you go to Earls Court Road, you will see a similar setup to LL (granted its central London and on a busy tube line but nonetheless), it has similar sized retail units to LL. They appear to have all the major retailers and chains but in miniature. It isn't beyond the realms of possibility the same won't be attempted in ED once a few have given it a go. I hope we aren't at that sort of tipping point. Peckham almost certainly will be once the station refurb is complete. Louisa.
  13. Seeing as MEATliqour began its life in a Peckham car park, I think it would be a positive edge to a story in which a local business is sadly forced to close due to rental increases (if that's why they closed). If MEATliquor do take on this relatively small footprint, it won't be long before more established chains consider taking on smaller local footprints too (17 LL springs to mind here). Personally, I'd have preferred a pie n mash shop, but again Peckham serves me well on that front. Louisa.
  14. With the news Seacow is closed, I cannot find any information on the planning portal for the future of the site. However, interestingly, MEATliquor Dulwich has an account on Twitter (not sure if it's connected to the official Twitter account of MEATliquor or not, can someone please verify?) which I found just now. Louisa.
  15. What about soda and lime with ice? Pint of, foxy. Louisa.
  16. I admire anyone who has the guts to try a dry month. I am however more realistic. I get lonely and turn to the wine, I think most regular forumites may have picked up on that. It's a comfort blanket thing. I am not using this as an excuse, I just don't wish to change it. Louisa.
  17. Oh god here we go again. Louisa.

Jez with the greatest of respect, I just think you're getting old ;-) Louisa.

    NY parties??

And the lack of responses on this thread sums up just how much gentrification has turned ED into a boring lifeless family orientated suburb. End of discussion. Louisa.
  20. I'm a confirmed classist and foodist. Even if I put on an al a carte buffet for my middle class neighbours I can't see that label shifting. Louisa.

A very M&S Christmas to all ED residents past and present. Let's hope for a happy Iceland New Year too. I'm on the wines tee he he. Louisa.
  24. I've always wanted to hold a snake, swim with dolphins and conquer my fear of heights by standing on a glass platform in a tall building. Louisa.
  25. I like my veg steamed or roasted, unless it's bubble then it can be fried. I don't mind sprouts with poultry but I find them a little bland if over done. I personally would roast up some parsnips and carrots in honey and serve them with a nice homemade cranberry sauce. What does everyone think of yorkshires with a Crimbo lunch? Yay or nay? Louisa.
