ED Picturehouse. Elitist*. (Louisa's lounged response)
Louisa replied to Louisa's topic in The Lounge
Yes we do Alan, but the budget of ED shouldn't have to be different to the budget of Peckham. That's my point. A neighbourhood starts off as 'x' becomes 'y' - and so those who've lived in 'x' before it became 'u' now must go elsewhere (despite maybe not being able to) just because 'x' can become (for arguments sake) 'xy'. It's all a unnecessary nonsense. No one is being jealous here or calling people nasty or better or whatever. It's just an observation that not all businesses have to leave an area which remains a fair mixed community still. LL doesn't any longer accommodate for all those tastes in the surrounding roads, only some of them. Louisa. -
Sorry AqM, I just had to respond I should have said its just my take on things and continue as you were in the main section. The minute I say anything these days people assume I'm on some wind up mission. It's disconcerting. I do genuinely believe that the community is for everyone whether that be ED, Peckham, Chelsea or Cannock Chase. Why should Peckham only be for some sections of the community and ed for others. Let's not get this thread off topic too though. I apologise for taking things into the lounge. Louisa.

ED Picturehouse. Elitist*. (Louisa's lounged response)

Alan Medic I corrected myself on the pricing, but added the caveat that either way the new ED cinema is still more expensive than the Peckham one. On those figures MORE THAN DOUBLE what you'd pay in Peckham! Why should anything on our doorstep be seen as a treat? So do the fine folk of Peckham see their cinema as a treat too? The point about the car isn't relevant. I'm referring to people who through no fault of their own are incapable or unable to go out of their way every time they want to treat themselves. I didn't say the cinema was segregating the community, they are here to run a business, simple as that. But all the hype and nonsense that's gone on over the last decade and a half has allowed us to get to this point. I remember the old Odeon on Grove Vale, that was never overpriced. Granted it was some years ago, but if anything that further validates my point about not everyone being able to participate in the new retail and entertainment offerings of ED due to pricing. *Bob* I appreciate you're sarcasm as much as anyone, but you are clearly wrong on this one. Peckham is our neighbour, and yes people CAN go there if they want to, but that's not the point I am making. It's why should they have to? Louisa. -

Yes it is Jah. You're staying people are supposed to walk from ED to Peckham maybe with young kids or not in full health? It might be easy for some people but not everyone. It's the assumption that people should like it or lump it. Why should they? I apologise I thought someone said 35 or 25 or something in that range. Either way, it's a heck of a lot more than Peckhamplex. The cinema isn't the cause, it's a symptom of a wider issue that's the point. End of. Louisa. -
Had to say this. Peckhamplex is a bargain by London standards and great value for money. But, I find it disturbing that people are saying if you don't like what's on offer in ED go elsewhere. I don't understand this mentality. People live in ED and don't want to have to go miles out of our way just because everything locally is ridiculously priced. The same argument about the demise of Iceland is relevant here too. I do not for the life of me understand how people can say it's great to live in an edgy part of town, then be happy to pay 35 quid plus for a cinema ticket. It's segregating the community based on where they can afford to be entertained/shop/eat/drink etc. Peckham is less dangerous now that at any time in the last 35 years or so I would argue, nonetheless it's still a trek for people who may already be on a budget in ED. Cheeky. Seriously though red devil, a ghost in someone's house is worth two in my bush. Louisa.

Some of the most haunted places in south-east London and Kent. http://m.newsshopper.co.uk/news/11255442.Haunted__10_of_the_scariest_places_in_south_east_London_and_north_Kent/ Louisa.

Or you could hold your nose and pop to maccers and get two extra value meals (large) and a couple of cheeseburgers for the same price. Louisa.

I much prefer watching the squirrel doing the leg work on the nuts. Makes for some good photography. Louisa.

But it does leave a lovely smell of cut grass in the air wouldn't you agree? To me it's the sound of summer. Far better than rain and car engine noises. Louisa.
-
Good idea Loz. Saves mucking around at a later date. Seems a shame having to remove a healthy looking bush, but it is a pain having to maintain it. Louisa.
-
Saucy sods. I had a genuine concern about the overhang of my bush and it's been dragged kicking and screaming into the gutter. Out of interest Jah, what is a "Brazilian"? Is it a way of shaping the bush? I'm not overly artistic and wouldn't want an extrovert bush. Tbh im considering taking all away back to the roots. Louisa.

*Bob* to be fair, every time I read one of your sarcastic put downs a comedy trombone pipes up in my head. Waah Waah Waah Waaaaaaaaaaaaaha Louisa.

I didn't have an issue with him raising it I should reiterate, NOT that I don't have an issue with unwanted attention on my house. You can tell I'm having a cheapo one in the sun today (cherry lambrini). Louisa.

Of course it was Otta. I know how the urban elite work behind closed doors. Munching on cavier whilst the rest of us are scrabbling to the bottom of the chest freezer looking for an Iceland fish pie. Meh. Back on topic, my bush had considerably overgrown and a new neighbour who lives four or five doors along, light heartedly raised it with me last year (primarily to advise me that its height could attract opportunistic burglaries on my property). I didn't have an issue with that at all, but had never considered the official line from the council. I do help Mr Louisa trim it a few times a year, but it's probably overhanging by maybe 4/5 inches onto the pavement (low level as I said before about a foot). Would it be advisable to push the overhang back to the wall boundary? Louisa.

Can't see the Labour Party winning an election any time soon either David, what do you think? Louisa.

To avoid going into central London my advice would be to drive south to Croydon and join the M25 and following it around until you join the M4. Louisa.

This is a genuine post. What are the limits if any on bushes? Louisa.
-
Just had a man wake me from my afternoon slumber on the sun lounger to inform me that my front hedge was too high. I informed him that I trim my bush regularly (twice this year already), and it's barely a foot (length) over the front wall. He told me it was illegal to have an unruly bush which can potentially cause people to swerve off the pavement. Where do I stand on this? If my bush is trimmed on a regular basis surely I don't need to do anything else do I? How far out onto the pavement can a hedge stick out? Louisa.

This has been raised a few times now recently. It does seem a bit far fetched demand proof of residency, but I suppose they have to draw the line somewhere, otherwise they would be dealing with people from Lewisham and other nearby boroughs using this tip which is funded by the people of this borough. Louisa.

What other big forum names are now missing from the debate? Let's have a bit of a love in of the folk we don't hear from anymore, who knows maybe the positivity will force them back on here for old times sake? Louisa.

Why has StraferJack stopped posting? Otta? Louisa.
