  1. Hi rare_breeds, 21,000 residents. Roughly 56% of households have a car. Circa 8,000 households in SE22 from memory. 1 in 80 isn't a huge proportion but is higher than other areas in Southwark who then had CPZ consultations that resulted in schemes proceeding. If this scheme does proceed I would hope different times would operate different sides of Lordship Lane. Commuter parking would be stopped. People during daytime visiting not necessarily deterred from continuing to spend their money on Lordship Lane.
  2. Hi sue, Please see planning portal here - https://interactive.planningportal.co.uk/detached-house/outside/windows-and-doors " It states you DO NOT usually need planning permission if: - repairs, maintenance, and minor improvements, such as repainting window and door frames - insertion of new windows and doors that are of a similar appearance to those used in the construction of the house (note ? a new bay window will be treated as an extension and may require permission) " So uPVC non sash windows replacing wooden sash windows would need planning permission. If you look at the planning list you'll see a steady trickle of these planning applications. One was of telling a reputable installer is if they point this out. Hard wood windows have better fire resistance than plastic ones. The materials in making plastic windows are worse in the manufacture and eventual disposal when they one day get replaced than wooden ones. Both can be double or triple glazed so neutral on that one.
  3. Hi creditwheredue, I talked to five cinema providers all were very interested in coming to East Dulwich. We had several ideas for local locations that could support a new cinema. We had been talking to the local RC father about possible use of the Thomas Moore Hall for a new nursery. I believe this happened in parallel to the Picturehouse local resident, part of the fathers congregation, talking to the father. I also talked to the father making it clear others were also interested in providing a cinema. I also made it clear ward councillors would be fully supportive of the change of planning use and the planning application for a cinema and we followed through on that promise. ...and what a great addition to the area.
  4. Agree on the LL/EDG junction but CPZ's aren't the mechanism to do that. Work is supposed to be underway to make LL safer from Goose Green to south circular.
  5. You can also borrow eBooks online.
  6. Hi Soylent Green, The cost of running Controlled Parking Zones is clearly significantly less than the ?125/year permit charge. I say this because for council housing estates with controlled parking the first vehicle permit is charged at ?0, replacing a lost or stolen permit ?10 - https://www.southwark.gov.uk/parking/parking-permits/estate-permits/resident-permits. As Housing Revenue Account are not allowed to trade at a profit these costs more accurately reflect the real cost of providing parking permits. The public highway permit charge at ?125 is a political decision. The profits are used to subsidise the Transport Budget. My lot when running the council charged ?99.
  7. If you have a specific book/s you think they should stock at the new Grove Vale library they will seriously consider getting them in. On the opening day met a lovely chap who was delighted to see his requests on the book shelves.
  8. If you change the windows appearance you are supposed to get Planning Permission. So if you don't and try selling your home in the next 12 years you'll have a serious hiccup and after the 12 years would still have issues selling. Good wooden double glazed sash windows would be a great eco improvement and likely to add value to your property. uPVC are viewed in a variety of ways by future potential buyers - you could always speak to an estate agent.
  9. The map clearly shows Chadwick Road houses on the south side, from the railway line east, included in this new proposed CPZ. So it may be they will be able to obtain CPZ permit for this proposed new zone but be barred from using it outside their home. Clearly worth responding to the consultation to ensure this potential problem is fully addressed.
  10. Southwark Council has just issued a public consultation to install Controlled Parking Zone bounded by Grove Vale, East Dulwich Road, Fenwick Road, Chadwick Road, railway line. To respond to the consultation, deadline 31 January, please go here - https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment-leisure/peckhamwestparking/ Streets included are: Adys Road Amott Road Avondale Road Bellenden Road Besant Place Chadwick Road Choumert Road Copleston Road Danby Street East Dulwich Road Everthorpe Road Fenwick Grove Fenwick Road Gowlett Road Grove Vale Hayes Grove Howden Street Keston Road Maxted Road Marseden Road Muschamp Road Nutbrook Street Oglander Road Ondine Road Oxenford Sreet Soames Street Waghorn Street Wingfield Street
  11. I've asked GLA Aseembly Member Caroline Pidgeon to find out what thE London Mayor can do to help fight this aspect of air pollution. This is the response she organised from her office: " James, I think there is a bit of uncertainty as to the provisions of the 1956 Act in relation to wood stoves ? and we should not forget that the main purpose of the Act was to tackle very different forms of air pollution that plagued London at the time. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/Eliz2/4-5/52/enacted http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1956/52/pdfs/ukpga_19560052_en.pdf There is in fact widespread support for new and updated clean air legislation ? see this recommendation from the House of Commons Environment Audit Committee. https://www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/environment-food-and-rural-affairs-committee/news-parliament-2017/joint-improving-air-quality-report-publication-17-19/ Sadiq Khan to be fair has also backed the need for such legislation quite some time: https://www.london.gov.uk/press-releases/mayoral/mayor-unveils-action-plan-to-battle-toxic-air Of course wood burning stoves are a serious cause of air pollution (and it is a growing problem) ? this is an excellent report from Tom Edwards of the BBC: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-38746482 However, whether London Boroughs have real legal powers to take effective enforcement action against many of them at present is not absolutely clear, and the call for extra powers is quite obvious from the Mayor?s reply to a question Caroline has already asked: https://www.london.gov.uk/questions/2018/0354 I thought this reply to another Mayoral Question might also be of interest: https://www.london.gov.uk/questions/2014/1351 I will liaise with the Southwark and also with London Councils on this. "
  12. That would be great Rendel - thank you in advance.
  13. You can report noise and antisocial behaviours -which surely what you've described is -https://www.southwark.gov.uk/noise-and-antisocial-behaviour/antisocial-and-threatening-behaviour 020 7525 5777 And yes, the whole of Southwark is in a Smoke Free Zone. I believe your neighbour can use an open fire IF they have smoke free coal.
  14. All state funded schools in Southwark are academies and have been for many years. The only non academies in Southwark are private schools. Can we get back to focusing on finding loved but no longer used spare musical instruments that could be used to help teach local children the joy of making their own music. So far the following instruments have been donated: 2 x flutes 2 x violins 1 x french horn Which is a fab start...
  15. Hi TE44, Their is clearly a demand outstripping the supply of instruments - a shortage. This is a generic issue for many schools and someone I've just collected a lovely flute from has pointed out this charity - https://www.orchestrasforall.org/donate-an-instrument/ - but perhaps not many can delivery them to this charity in north London in person or post them insured.
  16. Thank you rendelharris. Hi TE44, Any costs in collecting or moving instruments are my own. I'm not charing anyone for this. It just seems a like a nice idea to make life super easy for people who are telling me they have wanted to pass their loved instruments on to a new home but didn't know how - which is exactly where I was until I made the connection. Why The Charter School East Dulwich - because I campaigned for this school, obtained the land and have a very big soft spot for it as a result. But I'd be delighted if anyone specified a different school they lie an instrument to go to locally and would make the effort to support their request. Would you like to help? Hi redeem, I'd forgotten about the library books. Donating books fab idea. Hopefully donating a book at Rye Books can be as a financial donation so people can Gift Aid the money and the school gets more books that way.
  17. Yes Carrie I believe it would be. Hi TE44, Yes. I heard they had shortage of musical instrument. I offered and my donated french horn was warmly received. I offered to see if we could find more instruments for their local children. It recall how hard it was when I first started playing a musical instrument and the shortage of musical instruments which placed great pressure on our family to buy me an instrument. Anything to give others less pressure and more children chance to try learning an instrument is a good thing in my book. East Dulwich area must have many hundreds of forlorn instruments that could have a better home and be played.
  18. Now: 1 x French horn 2 x Violins 1 x Flute
  19. The Charter School East Dulwich is about to move onto its permanent site locally - so excited as started the campaign for new local secondary school December 2013. Apparently they have a shortage of musical instruments. I've donated a French horn. If you have a spare musical instruments that you no longer need or use and would like to know it's helping a young person learn that instrument please donate it to the new school?s music centre. I will arrange pick up so, if you are interested, please contact me at [email protected] or call 07900 227366 (email is better). So far we have: 1 x French horn 1 x Violin 1 x Flute
  20. The two Charter Schools are close enough that they will likely form squished ovals meaning that each has a large catchment area than if only one existed. Without much better maths skills than I possess really hard to tell how far the new catchment areas will be but should be further than current and newer school even further as some aren't used or trusting yet.
  21. Hi shell, If a shop unit isn't let over time then the landlord is trying to get too much rent. Really simple economics. Often an owner will inflations the rent they ask for so that after two years they say it was unsettable as a shop. They then seek change of use from a shop to a more profitable use. IT too many do this then the high street loses its purpose and footfall declines killing it. 50% is super important threshold.
  22. Hi Monkey, Most of Dunstans Road is 1,300m from the new schools entrance. You are likely to get a place. Especially as it's settling down and some don't feel comfortable selecting it. They also have 180 places each year. Charter North Dulwich furthest distance place was 857m an established Outstanding school.
  23. Cafe is more a stand. Which means an extra pair of eyes always present which should mean longer opening hours. Coffeee stand should be complimentary to the library.
  24. I was wondering that as well...
