Hi lordship girl, Do challenge. Perhaps worth joining seeking advice from http://www.las2000.org Leaseholders Associate of southwark who are well versed in fighting such bills. Also perhaps worth noting. Around 30 houses in East Dulwich the council own the freehold but both flats are leasehold. I'm always amazed those leaseholders have followed the leaseholder enfranchisement and bought the freehold form the council - as i the leaseholders right. If this is you then you can calculate what the cost of doing this would be via one of many online calculators - https://www.freeholdcalculator.com/freehold_choose.php this is the first ot pop up in a Google search.

Denmark Hill station entrance shambles
James Barber replied to Ginster's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I can reiterate that. No planning permission has been sought fo a new entrance. When I last met with them the train operating company confirmed they were applying for funding for a new entrance and had provisional designs. -

Hi John, Almost all the work I'm proud in still exists - new primary and secondary schools that we initiated and led campaigns and largely made possible by acquiring the land. oodles of crime prevention, New Grove Vale library this September, Dulwich Leisure Centre modernisation, even the pelican crossings on Lordship Lane. Many other less obvious improvements me and my lot made happen many while in opposition. -
Just come back on for us.

Burglary on Whateley Rd last night (7th/8th May)
James Barber replied to Gesundheit's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It is terrible to be burgled - especially so if present asleep upstairs. The research shows burglars are likely to repeat not just the initial home burgled after a few months but also neighbours - similar layout likely similar posessions. The Met Police patchily cocoon homes and neighbours to reduce this. So please do tell your neighbours so they can take extra precautions. Ask for the local Police for a Crime Prevention visit. But this online survey is good produced by a retired Met Police Crime Prevention Officer and only take a few minutes but really highlights areas to make a home more secure - https://thecrimepreventionwebsite.com/home-security-assessment/468/diy-home-security-survey/ -

Thank you everyone for the kind messages here, emails, phone calls, etc. They're all appreciated. Thank you. It has been an amazing privilege to represent the citizens of East Dulwich. Thank you for those twelve amazing years. Thankfully we live in a democracy and Labour ran a better campaign. I wish the new Goose Green and Dulwich Hill ward councillors good fortune representing the area. I hope they do a great job - there is so much that needs to be improved. I'm spending the weekend working through casework and getting it all to a sensible position before my council email gets switched off late Monday afternoon. I still have a number of local projects I've started and responsible for whether a councillor or not that I will see through. A little bit of silver lining - I will get to have s summer free of guilt that I've not helped people enough - as a conscientious councillor there is always something more you feel you could do. Best wishes, James former Liberal Democrat councillor for East Dulwich -

Hi Abe_froeman, That's very kind of you. We have all certainly achieved a great deal over the last 12 years - the last 8 in opposition making it more challenging. And the new Grove Vale library opens August/September so some of my projects are still happening. -

Hi Jaiko, Yes, the plan was for North Cross Road to be free of cars on market day from Lordship Lane to Archdale Road junction. I haven't had a response to why this isn't implemented yet but as soon as I do will share here. Hi natnat, Woodwarde Road. I've reported this to the cleaning team asking if they can give it some focus. It is disgusting. -
The 176 bus (has the service got extremely bad?)
James Barber replied to bloodoranges's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The frequency during day time, evenings and weekends is slightly reduced on the 176 and most other bus routes. Part of the bus cuts the London Mayor has implemented to avoid fare rises. Most of these cuts were implemented and now discovered are being published. He stood on a ticket (excuse the pun) of freezing TfL fares and this is one of a number of consequences. -

Hi Penguinpoist, We had a scheme two years ago ready to rollout for all those shop fronts. It required them all to agree to ensure levels for rain water to run away. Sally they didn't all agree. So we have a strip of public pavements that isn't great and a much wider strip of private sections of pavements. After the elections we'll try again to find a solution. -
Peckham Rye Ward Polling Station mix up
James Barber replied to Renata Hamvas's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My experience in the Electoral services team have assumed schools will accept being Polling Station. They chose Heber School for one. I know past head didn't want Heber to be a polling station. I checked new the new head who concurred as did governors. Went to Electoral services who said the school had agreed to be one. Challenged them and then electoral services backed down and Heber School will not be used as one - but it took several months to get this 'mistake' corrected. It is appalling that any school has to close for the day. It used to be 60 schools every election. Under former Councillor Bob Skelly who led on education this was reduced to 20. It now stands at 18 after a lot of pushing from me and my colleagues to stop using schools. -
What's happening at the Harvester?
James Barber replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My understanding is temporary use to hold coaches for the Dulwich Private School Coach Service near to the schools rather than them parking where they should not at the schools. -

BT Openreach have stated they'll fix the person hole cover on LordshipL one outside the Palmerston pub in the next 7-10 days. Bit ridiculous to have to escalate the to the CEO of BT Openreach but it does seem to get traction. I have had them remove from Heber Road a wire wrapped around their telegraph pole - dropped wire that dropped! -

Primary school allocations 2018
James Barber replied to Renata Hamvas's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I've not criticised any councillors. I hold Renata Hamvas in high regard and also like her personally. So baffled at my end. It is frustrating that as a sitting councillors with East Dulwich residents impacted by the problem with Dulwich Hamlet admissions that council officers did not tell councillors with impacted families but only the immediate ward councillors. Something separately I hope to get changed if any future problems occur. But this is nothing compared to the families impacted- and hopefully everything will work out swiftly for all families impacted. -

Hi Sol, Great to have received your PM's since Thursday. Great you're also made contact with Renata. Ideally you'd only use one councillor to follow-up your admissions casework otherwise complications can arise. -
Random doorbell ringing in the dead of night
James Barber replied to raerae's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This happened to me several years ago. Not as extreme timing. I ignored it and it proved to be burglars who kicked the front door in. They'd have trouble doing this again. I chased them away but truly appalling experience for the me and the family. If it keeps happening then you might want to consider getting one ofthdeose Ring doorbells that records people after sensing movement so you'll have video of whoever is doing this. If they're wrong 'guns this will deter them. -
Primary school allocations 2018
James Barber replied to Renata Hamvas's topic in The Family Room Discussion
It transpires that response form Southwark Council as I reported above has not been universally successful or accurate. This is what one parent has told me so far: ? After we suspected there had been an error, I tried to speak to the council yesterday and was told they could only provide information to me over email, even though the two officers I spoke to could see Xxx file and they knew whether they had a place or not. They would not provide me with a telephone number for anyone who would speak to me. I phoned the head teacher, and she immediately told me what she knew, but confirmed that she had also not been given any information from the council. Today I received a phone call only telling me that Xxx place had been withdrawn. The council officer could not tell me what their waiting list place was, nor the chance of them getting into another school. She also couldn't tell me why it had happened. I was told to re-contact her at the start of July! An email was then sent to me from the school telling me (correctly) that the waiting list had moved very quickly, and that Xxx now had a place. This was followed by an email from the council blaming the school for the error and telling me Xxx didn't have a place and suggesting I keep in contact via the number that wouldn't give me any information yesterday. ? If you're impacted please get in touch. -

Primary school allocations 2018
James Barber replied to Renata Hamvas's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Dulwich Hamlet admissions has gone a bit awry. 19 people were offered places who should not have been and these have been withdrawn and 19 people who should have been offered places are being offered them. A clerical error appears to have been the cause of this. I hope extra checks will be in place next year to spot this in future. Southwark Council admissions team have telephoned each family to explain the place at the school was offered in error and why we need to remove it, the place will be removed and these children will be put on the waiting list. A follow up letter to these parents will also be emailed out to them to confirm we are removing the place and to advise how we will assist and support them. For out borough children the letter will be sent via their local Admissions team. Once we have completed our calls we will then generate new offer letters to the families where places should have been allocated to their children and these will be emailed and posted to them. If you have been affected please get in touch with me if you need extra support working this through. -
Leak - across from Cherry Tree
James Barber replied to TPBREAK's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think a number of us have reported this leak. I've now escalated this leak in the hope that its some extra action. -
Hi ITATM, And they won the appeal to keep their Nero despite it being against Southwark planing rules. Council officers are minded ot approve this. My lot and I have called this decision in to be decided by Councillors.

This percentage is based no ensuring our shopping high street has sufficient proportion of shops to be attractive ot people who want to go shopping. In planning terms it's considered critical mass. Hi P68, Are you suggesting Lordship Lane should be turned into houses and flats?
