former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Baue9999, Not every home can store a green wheelie bin, a blue wheelie bin and for some also a brown wheelie bin or a brown food waste caddy in a front garden/driveway. If someone is partially or totally blocking a drive way then the home owner can call parking enforcement and they'll send someone out. In extreme cases a local surgeon on call the Police had to intervene to help them get out. Registering a driveway so that parking enforcement can just ticket partial or fully blocked dropped kerbs is one way forward. -

Hi theboycj, I would expect radiator that are not longer than 2m to be collected. Wooden flooring - If you can bag it up and not overly long. Hi Mantra, Some time ago we installed wheelchair roundabout in Dulwich Park. We then had some more accessible play equipment. But I've not kept track of its' current status. If you email me I'll put you in touch with local park managers and you can ask them directly. -
Hi sue, Email me your details and will escalate this.

Underhill Road. 1st the junction of underhill Road with Dunstan's Road has been re painted and should be much clearer - and hopefully safer. 2nd This is the response I've had about the terrible Whateley Road and Underhill Road condition: " Dear Councillor Barber Further to my earlier email I am pleased to confirm that both Underhill and Whateley Road are on our 2017/18 Capital project carriageway resurfacing programme. Any necessary refreshment of worn road markings will also be picked up as part of these resurfacing schemes, however any worn statutory markings ie give-way lines e.g. at the junction of Underhill Road and Dunstans Road will be treated as priority. Underhill Road was part of this year?s programme however this has now slipped and will be included as part of our 2018/19 programme. Whateley Road was due for resurfacing in the next month but clashes with nearby development works so this scheme has now been pushed to the end of March. Affected residents will be formerly informed of the works prior to any planned start but in the interim we will undertake temporary repairs to potholes or other defects which meet our criteria. I trust this information assures you that the issues raised will be addressed, however if you require further clarification please do not hesitate to contact me. Regards Detail of what is proposed Underhill Road financial Year 18/19 - I'm trying to get the actual months when the works will take place: Streamline Mews - Mellford Road 58M & Friern Road - Henslow Road 74m x 40mm surface replacement St.Aidnas Road - Upland Road 9m & Upland Road - Friern Road 80m x whole road reconstruction " -

Hi goldilocks, I've asked if this could be done. You're totally correct TfL and the train operator need to do something ot make this station safer - your suggestion until a second entrance can be built makes lots of sense to me. One -

Hi UVArchitects, I'd be interested to hear your ideas. It would however block the plans to reopen Camberwell station served by those two line not serving Loughborough Junction. -
Hi rahrahrah, You can see a heat map of Public Transport Accessibility Levels (PTAL) here - https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/urban-planning-and-construction/planning-with-webcat/webcat The higher the number redder the map the more pubic transport. You are right that near the south circular PTAL is much lower - those blues in Dulwich Village are in the middle of Dulwich Park BTW. Equally if you look to the north of London similar heat map PTAL scores before you reach the north circular. As Londondoners do we try and fix air pollution or not. The waiting for everywhere to have high PTAL would mean not addressing air pollution. We're never going to have universal high PTAL scores. But for clarity the ULEX means Petrol cars newer than 2006.

hi Jules-and-Boo, Latest 16/17 figures show Denmark Hill increased from 7M entries and exits to 7.12M increases of 6%. East Dulwich fell from 1.71M to 1.33M -22% due to RMT strike actions and London Bridge disruption. You can see all the station figures for 16/17 and previous years here - http://orr.gov.uk/statistics/published-stats/station-usage-estimates -

Hi Guys, This is the latest update I should have posted earlier this week explaining how things have been improved - any problems please EMAIL as I'll see it much quicker to act: " Dear Councillor Barber Thank you for your enquiry, in which you requested information regarding the following: As response to the following customer comments: " I can now provide you with a full response to your enquiry. I have contacted the centre manager from Everyone Active regarding the comments outlined in your email on the 1st February 2018 from customers. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and can confirm the following as a response to the comments: ?We are aware of the temperature and air handling issues at the centre. The Council has carried out detailed investigation works as part of a larger project to significantly improve the air handling units which is due to happen later this year. The centre team at Dulwich have also, as a short term measure, increased the temperature in various area?s in the centre including female wet changing rooms. The centre team will continue to monitor the situation via their daily temperature checks which are monitored. ?The group exercise classes are continually monitored and there has been a change of instructors for one or two classes recently that have had a short term impact for customers. Timeliness of classes are closely monitored by Everyone Active and any classes that are not operated according to schedule are reported. We have not identified a trend in the last quarter; however, Everyone Active will continue to monitor to make sure classes start on time. ?Everyone Active has recently appointed over night cleaners and the difference in cleanliness is already noticeable. We are also reviewing the signage to encourage customers to support staff in cleanliness. During centre open times regular checks are in place. If you have any questions about this response please do not hesitate to contact me Yours sincerely " -
Music Festival Peckham Rye Park
James Barber replied to jocher's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Indiepanda, The whole of East Dulwich has around 25,000 people. So an extra 9,000 for a one of event is massive compared to that. -

Hi nxjen, The original 2 x 40,000 people events have been cancelled but 2 x 20,000 people events are now planned. Hi Mick Mac, I don't think you can compare Peckham Rye Park with Hyde Park. Sheer size of Hyde Park and half a dozen tube stations set the two apart. Blackheath is a massive open field. Finsbury Park - I don't know that area well enough to comment. -

I've received this information today. I find it hard to reconcile massive festival event with a local community park. If a festival is so large a local station has to be closed - then it is too large to be held. Not sure what has possessed the Labour administration to allow such a disruptive large event. The free tickets for 200 locals - has to be an admission it will be extremely disruptive and either join us or go away for the weekend implied - but who would leave their home unattended after the comments about other events that failed to respect local residents! It wouldn't be so problematic if it was a Saturday and Sunday as most people could recover before back to work etc. on Tuesday. The FAQ is too vague about cleaning up the surrounding streets each day. I'll ask whether Southwark Community Wardens could be deployed both days and parking enforcement wardens. " Dear East Dulwich Councillors, I write in respect of an upcoming event on Peckham Rye Park/Common, GALA, a festival that was recently granted a license, subject to meeting certain conditions. As you may know, the event is planned to take place on Peckham Rye Park and Common on Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday 27 & 28 May 2018. These conditions ensure that the event is managed well and that disruption to the local community is kept to a minimum. The conditions include: ? continued dialogue with local stakeholders and residents. ? noise management ? dispersal of audience ? waste management ? protection of the park, its trees, plants and wildlife I also wanted to write to you to inform you of the next steps which will be actioned in the coming days. We have been working with the organisers and have now uploaded some FAQ's, available online (will also be on the GALA website) . Other steps in the coming days include.. ? The creation of a residents hotline (covering the entire time the festival will be at Peckham Rye), information on how the park will be protected and the impact of local wildlife minimised. ? Stakeholders have received an invitation to the next engagement meeting on 20 February ? over 3,000 local households and businesses will receive a letter updating them on the festival and connecting them to the organisers and ourselves if they wish to raise any concerns. I am cc?ing our Culture and Arts Manager Paul Cowell who will be able to give you regular updates but please let me know if you have any further questions. Regards, Johnson Cllr Johnson Situ Labour Councillor for Peckham ward, Southwark Council Cabinet member for Business, Culture & Social Regeneration " -
bus shelter (why not on Barry Road)
James Barber replied to brontoscorpio's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Jim1234, I can't guarantee a shelter will be installed but I do know a few routes to request this and have requested so. Fingers crossed. Currently I think it the only bus stop on Barry Rod without a bus shelter. -

Please send me an email I will try and make it happen. -
Hi BNG, I meant in terms of the visitors to the bunkhouse becoming victims. Hostels have a poor reputation of visitors being secure and not becoming victims of crime. I would want the Police to sign of that they are 100% happy with the security arrangements. We don't want the minimal Police effort put into East Dulwich sucked into this.

Denmark Hill station entrance shambles
James Barber replied to Ginster's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Going through some folders I came across this information - more to following over the weekend: " It was good to see you last Friday. As promised, here is some further information regarding Denmark Hill station: Network Rail Route Study Station Capacity Assessment The study was undertaken over two days in July 2015, approximately two weeks before the start of school holidays. Video cameras captured the tops of all stairs to the platforms and also the gateline. Counts were completed for the AM (07:00 - 10:00) and PM (16:00 - 19:00) peaks and were classified by person type (i.e. person with large luggage, bicycle etc). Counts were provided in 5 minute intervals and showed that flows were slightly higher in the AM on Wednesday at 10,700 (10,400 on Tuesday) and in the PM on Tuesday at 9,200 (8,800 on Wednesday). On both days the AM peak was considerably busier than the PM peak. The AM flows were very balanced with similar numbers of passengers entering and exiting the station (52/48 in favour of exits). The Access for All footbridge is used by approximately 30% of passengers in the AM peak, the remaining 70% using the original overbridge. Platform 4 (towards Bromley) only accounts for 7% of flows in the AM peak but 26% of flows in the PM peak. The PM peak has a more tidal flow with station entries making up 60% of gateline movements. The Access for All overbridge is used by 32% of passengers in the PM peak, slightly more (2%) than in the AM peak. Annual footfall at Denmark Hill station The latest ORR footfall figure for Denmark Hill station is shown below. As mentioned on Friday, some of the difference between the 2015-16 and 2014-15 figure "is due to changes to the methodology" associated with the London Travelcard. The leap in passenger numbers in 2013-14 reflected the first full year of operation of the south-western branch of the London Overground network. pastedImage.png [attached to this post] With best wishes, " -
Underhill Road was to be resurfaced during this financial year. It has been postponed until the next financial year starting in April. I've asked exactly when in the next FY. The road marking at Underhill Road with dunstans Road will be renewed ASAP as it isn't clear and makes this junction even more dangerous. I'll keep people updated via my thread.

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Ilona, This will be an occasional problem for all the houses at Picketts Terrace. It is surprising they weren't given Underhill Road house numbers. I suspect houses 1-6 Victoria Close on Underhill Road also have this problem - possibly not quite so confusing but still wrongly addressed. Changing house numbers would need the residents of Picketts Terrace to request this - if you know they would want this let me know and we can set the wheels in motion. Hi Penguin68, Not sure the relevance of your point this time? -

Hopefully the problems are all now fixed - I have received two emails stating: Monday 29 January: " Dear Councillor Barber, I am pleased to inform you that all of the outstanding actions from the original complaint have been completed of the install of a new hook and replacing some of the shower units. Everyone Active have not reported any drops in the shower temperatures, but will continue to monitor this. I am due to conduct a monitoring visit in the next couple of weeks so I will be checking Everyone Active?s online maintenance database against my observationsof any further repairs that are needed. If you have any questions about this response please do not hesitate to contact me " Tuesday 30 January: " Dear Councillor Barber, I am pleased to inform you that all of the outstanding actions from the original complaint have been completed (the install of a new hook and replacing some of the shower units). Hi P68, Yes, but I couldn't list all the MVNO's. Between the main 4 operators they have over 85% of mobile customers. But easy to Google for the CEO email address of any other operator. For most problems just a mater of an operator adding a frequency better at penetrating building. They pretty much all have plans for this or adding transmission capacity. I happen to know for example that the EE site on top of the Coop on Lordship Lane recently took delivery of a new 1GigE pipe to replace 100Mbps pipe.
