The owner of the site has been trying thought various planning applications - which Cllr Rosie Shimell and I have called in repeatedly - to get permission to convert the premises into a restaurant ground floor and add an extra three flats above. We've called-in the latest scheme to be decided by councillor if council officers are minded to grant permission under delegated powers. It is crucial that Lordship Lane keep at least 50% retail shop units. If you agree then object to the latest planning application - https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?keyVal=_STHWR_DCAPR_9577108&activeTab=summary

Forest Hill Road Surgery - again.
James Barber replied to George Orwell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Forest Hill Group Practice has been moved from being in Special Measures to rated Good overall in a February inspection apparently. But that inspection said they needed to improve access to appointments and telephone management. You can see the full report issued 29 March here - http://www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-544424476 -
What?s happening to ED Station!?
James Barber replied to MrDude21's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi MrDude21, When the development 18-22 Grove Vale started it transpired that the ticket office water and sewage go via the 18-22 Grove Vale site. Hence the white trailer providing rest facilities. They're now getting close to fixing this but have to dig across the road. Not sure when that is planned ot happen. But the permanent rest facilities will then be reestablished. -
Hi Sue, I Worte that from my iPhone would had the tiniest font size ever. A number of cars covered. Was present when some fancy different fire fighter outfitted person took samples into test tubes which seemed ot be ferried away for testing. Whole thing lasted 90minutes - I found it interesting that the bus drivers weren't allowed tor instructed by their bus company to bypass the problem but told to wait for TfL to make a decision which never came before the road was unblocked after 90mins.

P13 currently suspended while TfL get around to re routing via Lordship Lane. Underhill Road closed between Darrell Road and Crystal Palace Road. Pink powder spread across various vehicles and multiple fire and police. Units on site checking what this powder. Is. If you know anything about this please urgently call the Police

Royal Mail Sorting Office Closure Meeting..
James Barber replied to DulwichFox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi rendelharris, GP's are all private businesses. That's been the case since the NHS was founded. I personally think they should be run on a public ownership model. With modern medicine it seems crazy for doctors to be running a business and keeping up with all the requirements of operating the best possible medical service. Personal friend gets to work at 5am to spend 2-3 hours most weekday catching up on the paperwork off running their GP practice and finding doctors keeps them almost as busy - non of whom want to become partners. Back to the sorting office. Their must be sufficient space to sell the site and retain space for parcel collection on site. And that is what Lib Dems will be campaigning for. It seems clear the Communication Workers Union (for transparency I used to be a member) are happy to centralise into Peckham - suspect the facilities for staff are better there - hence they've not caught to keep this one open. So we will also seek CWU support to keep a satellite parcels collection point in the replacement building. -

Hi lavender27, Broadly what Penguin68 has kindly written! Ideally tenants would mutually agree things about common spaces without contravening the tenancy agreements. -

Hi wayne10, I've apologised for this before and still regret that it was not a single click to unsubscribe that time. I've made it clear that I'm not using data from this survey until after the election. I am so busy door knocking every evening and weekend I've not the time to review it. I hope to email those that provided an email address with the results so far and post them here and post them out to those who have not provided an email address around the 7-9 May. -

Hi DuliwhcLondoner, The classic way is to record all numbers place by location and time slot for a weekday and a at the weekend. With number plates you can then find out the home postcode to postcode area to see if local or not. I was planning to ask if the council had this from the last CPZ study that wasn't written up into the report. Someone earlier in the thread suggested officers had stated it was local East Dulwich commuting and not out of area commuting. -

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Kiera, it was a couple of years ago helping take a group of scouts. Looks like I'll have to go again. Recently introduced carrier bag recycling - but not when a carrier bag stuffed full of stuff and then tied up. Agree on the information front. The current administration is happy things are recycled or incinerated declaring nothing going to landfill. Kind of missing the point that incineration isn't a good thing but a less bad thing. China will lower prices for recyclables at least in the short term. But transporting it half way across the world was never a sustainable solution. Hi TE44, That is disappointing news. In planning terms if their is any paper work stating the council was minded to grant approval then they could be bullish and press ahead and apply for retrospective permission. If permission was refused that paperwork would quite possibly mean they'd win on appeal. Also having buses based there leaving at odd hours has set a precedent for storing vehicles. That whole area is planned for redevelopment as part of the Old Kent Road Special Planning Document - party to fund the Bakerloo line being extended in that direction. So the land will worth a great deal more and Westminster keeping vehicles there will mean they're involved in maximising their land value increase. But clearly it leaves a bad taste in another borough when they're being used to store emotive rubbish trucks. -

Hi kiera, On my visits they demonstrated separating out the recycling blue wheelie bin stuff. The then related how they then sold those materials on but are also developing markets for it. Aluminium and steel, glass are all obvious. But I remember a big pile of milk bottle tops separately out waiting to be sold. Who they sell it to and where it is taken I do not know. Anything not put aside to be recycled now going to the South East London Combined Heat and Power site (SELCHP) just across the border in Lewisham and is incinerated. Attached is a graph of the recyclngi rates over recent years. Depressingly the rate of recycling is going down again. -

Hi terrig, Further update on resurfacing Underill hill Road received on Friday: " Dear Councillor Barber Thank you for your email. Please see the attached photos of the location. A works order was raised for the temporary repair of the identified potholes which should have been completed by close of play today. A permanent patch repair will be required which will encompass an area of approximately 3.5m x 10m. However, in order to carry out these works, the junction of Barry Road would need to be temporarily closed. Underhill Road is currently programmed to be resurfaced in the forthcoming financial year. This will be subject to a comprehensive site review to determine the full extent of the resurfacing work. At this time, I can not state categorically that the section around the junction with Barry Road would be included but obviously if this is the case then a patch repair would not be economic at this time. I will consult with the Transport Projects team to determine if the assessment of Underhill Road can be brought forward. Regards " section referred to is just other east of Underhill Road/ Barry Road junction. terrig Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thanks James. Hi Alan Medic, I spotted it last weekend and reported it to Thames water. It appears be getting worse but ITATM has kindly reported it is in hand now. General point - The new 18-22 Grove Vale block to get it's gas connected will apparently need to connect the other side of Grove Vale. Or was it water. Eitherway some serious traffic management issues to make this happen before June when the first residents move in. -
P13 bus route - anyone know when it'll be back?
James Barber replied to sleepy-li's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The resurfacing of Whateley Road between Lordship lane and just beyond Landcroft Road is now timetabled for next Thursday 12 April. It was postponed due to the weather from memory and the earlier closure in March. So expect the P13 to be diverted again. -

Hi nxjen, They've not yet caught up with the London Overground serving Peckham Rye and Denmark Hill - and that opened several years ago in December 2012 ! I'm expecting in May to know where the application for funds to open an extra entrance/exit on Windsor Walk have reached in the process. -

Denmark Hill station entrance shambles
James Barber replied to Ginster's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi JohnL, That sounds ridiculous. Hi Mick Mac, Yes, it's a very short term fix. Th problem stems form the original proposed design being to replace the 'heritage' walkway with a much wider one, linked to lifts and steps to platforms. Southwark Planning dept. advised they would not give planning permission. Hence the bridge and walkways taking people way out of their way and used only by a minority. If I'd known I'd have intervened - but not in East Dulwich ward so didn't come ot my attention until after the fact. An application for funding for an additional Windsor Walk entrance/exit has been made - but even if approved it will need planning permission and contract award, etc. So minimum 18 months but probably 2-3 years away. -
Denmark Hill station entrance shambles
James Barber replied to Ginster's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This is the update from go via Thameslink Railway (GTR) via GLA Assembly Member Caroline Pidgeon who as ever is being incredibly helpful. I've obviously gone back asking what the permanent fix will be and when, and have asked to take up the offer of another site visit. " Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding. The removal of the ticket barriers, as suggested by Councillor Barber, could potentially make things worse by increasing the flow of passengers entering the station, the majority of whom turn left towards the original, heritage footbridge and narrow stairways to the platforms. Ideally passengers arriving at Denmark Hill by train during the AM peak and intending to leave the station need to be encouraged to use the newer stairways and footbridge. Our Head of Occupational Safety has made two visits to Denmark Hill station and identified directing the flow of passengers through the station as being the key to reducing conflicting passenger movement. With that in mind from 16 April (the end of the Easter school holidays) we will be introducing two additional members of staff for a period of three months. Their focus will be on safe crowd control on Mondays to Fridays between 06:30 and 10:30 and between 16:00 and 20:00. They will be provided by an agency that specialises in managing crowd safety which we have used with good results at other high footfall stations. Other measures that will be taken include making more passenger announcements during peak hours and a review of existing signage. I'd be happy to meet you and Councillor Barber at the station on morning or evening to review the above actions. Best wishes, " -

I would encourage everyone to complete this survey created by a retired Met Police Crime Prevention Officer and upgrade your home security based on its recommendations - https://thecrimepreventionwebsite.com/home-security-assessment/468/home-security-survey--diy/ It took me five minutes to complete the survey. Still working through the improvements but gave me a real focus on what to work on. -

Hi eastdulwichhenry, I agree with 2-3m of double yellow lines on corners to make crossing the road easier. But the safety angle is spurious based on the last 18 years ro publicly available crash data. We also know that longer sight lines can lead to more speeding. hi Sally Eva, We know half of the traffic on Southwark roads starts and end outside Southwark. Their was talk of camera enforced filtered permeability - open for Southwakr residents registered vehicles during schools runs and charged or banned for non Southwark registered vehicles - we're talking about residential streets not A & B roads. -

Hi terrie, Plans are in place to renew Underhill Road in the coming financial year if memory serves me right and mention n on this thread a couple of months ago. Hi alex_b, Skips are licensed and meant to be temporary an ereoved when full. The highway can be closed for periods time if a Traffic Management Order and thorough requirement proven. What you've described doesn't fit that bill. Can you email me a picture and I'll I'll take it up for you and your neighbours. -

Hi MSCrawthew, It is refreshing to hear someone - by implication - praise the current maintenance work undertaken by HA and council working home repairs! Hi sing alto, The Harris primary school opened on a temporary site on Homestall Road. It is likely that some of those parents drive. The school was awarded an Ofsted Outstanding in all categories. it seems extremely likely that its catchment area will shrink rapidly. What has no helped in the loss locally of around 100 car parking spaces from all the unnecessary double yellow lines - I think this a bigger issue. -
Hi macutd, East Dulwich ward has a budget for free motorbike ground anchors. Village ward requires residents to contribute. We've recently allocated more crime prevention funds in East Dulwich ward. This will be spent during Financial Year 18/19. If you or anyone needs one please email me - [email protected]
