  1. During a site visit Spring this year the head of libraries told me the new Grove Vale library would open August/September this year. Not a great advert for Southwark Council working well.
  2. If someone is conducting a business from the public highway then Southwark Council can intervene - proving a business is being operated and causing a public nuisance can be a problem though. If you think this is the case email me.
  3. You have to be 14 to volunteer in a Southwark Library - https://www.southwark.gov.uk/libraries/adults/volunteer-at-your-local-library Oxfam support DoE volunteering - https://www.oxfam.org.uk/get-involved/volunteer-with-us/duke-of-edinburgh and our nearest Oxfam shop is 9 Half Moon Lane. Good luck.
  4. Hi beansprout, The East Dulwich noticeboards were placed under a project I initiated and obtained funding for. I have keys and can place non profit making community notices and have another set to display that was planning t place this coming weekend. Email me and I'll print and place. Regards James.
  5. Hi hpsaucey, That is clearly ridiculous. One of my Lib Dem colleagues Councillor Anood Al-Samerai has agreed ot ask why are council libraries rationing brown garden waste bags and when will they be able to order sufficient for all the demand.
  6. The obvious position would be for as many a possible to object unless the scheme includes Post Office Delivery Office for people to collect parcels, etc that Royal Mail failed to successfully deliver.
  7. Hi Nigello, New Grove Vale library will have twice the current floor space. Fixtures and fittings paid for by the developer.
  8. Hi Passiflora, solar, Southwark still has over 20,000 garages it rents out and their are lots of private garages to rent across the area. I'm genuinely baffled why parking cars in garages is considered more important than somewhere- however few - for people to live. Guess if people have somewhere live a garage would be their next priority. Hi Whoop, I can't make the consultation tonight - travelling home from meeting in Reading - but I will be looking at the final schemes and commenting. Barry Road changes - totally mindless council proposals that will pointlessly add danger for people walking and cycling, at great expense. Hi alice, And that was part of why I wanted to do more than just critics the council but positively some places they could build. The council isn't just bad at building it lies. It had council owned properties on Crebor Street since 1984 to house disabled people with live in carers. It moved the residents out. Left the property empty of tenants for several years. Then rented it out and declared they'd 'build' new council houses in 2017.
  9. Hi pecksnff, You can see road works across London here - http://public.londonworks.gov.uk/roadworks/?x=Z11v1oqcDzF1MY77c012oA It is not a great website - overly sensitive map function. It shows on Jarvis Road 1 October to 2 November Southwark council plan to replace the pavement and build a raised table. it also shows 18-24 October Thames Water doing 6" mains and 5m of road being dug up.
  10. Southwark provides public lavatory at thE Dulwich Leisure Centre, soon to be open new Grove Vale Library, Dulwich Library. Some boroughs run a scheme to encourage private businesses to open up their lavatories to non customers. We clearly could do with a couple of such facilities on Lordship Lane.
  11. Hi Pugwash, apples, We have a critical shortage of housing, but we don't have a critical shortage of places to park cars locally. On that basis my priority is to house people over cars. I'm sorry if we have different priorities. Hopefully the final design will be in keeping with the area and not some appalling architecture.
  12. Hi bagpipes, If people currently driving across from Grove Hill Road to Champion Hill wont. So they wont queue beside Dog kennel hill waiting for the green light. So Dog Kennel hill school should see a reduction in traffic idling besides their school. Traffic displacement. If the traffic is coming along Avondale Rise it would need to turn left and join Dog kennel hill via Quorn or Pytchley. Both would be serious delays meaning much traffic will evaporate from the area. If they turn down Camberwell Grove they'll be delayed by the filtered traffic lights and then going through Camberwell Grove. Again much traffic will evaporate if they decide that is the next best alternative. Minimal queue on Champion Park joining Denmark Hill currently. The loss of the through route E to W if it all went via via Champion Grove, the parallel A road would see that A road have less than 50% increase in traffic. I do live on champion Hill - but I think such measures should be widespread. I'd personally prefer them to be cameras enforced and limited to non Southwark residents. No Southwark residents should be on our A & B roads not our unclassified residential streets. And vice cress when I'm in a car in other boroughs. It could also then be trisected to the most approripaite times of day, etc.
  13. For clarity I proposed this site along with Henslowe Road garages. The homes are to be Southwark council homes and by 50% local let they mean people in housing need in the Dulwich are and the reminder for the general Southwark council housing waiting list. Their is no sinister plot here. I've not yet seen the detailed design but would hope it is in keeping with Create Streets guidelines to maximise how acceptable they could possible be - https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjcuPrhzY_eAhXLDMAKHfR7CccQFjAAegQIChAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ipsos.com%2Fsites%2Fdefault%2Ffiles%2Fmigrations%2Fen-uk%2Ffiles%2FAssets%2FDocs%2FPolls%2Fhousing-home-types-survey-create-streets-slides.pdf&usg=AOvVaw3fFPZpRKR9qe8lZw08ULawThis leave one plot on Underhill road that the council has yet to bring plans forward for - where the 4 prefab homes were/are.
  14. This is one of the three sites I proposed several years ago. Really frustrating it has taken such a ridiculous amount of tie for Southwark Council to act. Thankfully they are at last. The devil will be in the detail and whether they go for a design that people want - https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjsx-zv0vfdAhVHAcAKHZzWCfYQFjAAegQICBAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ipsos.com%2Fsites%2Fdefault%2Ffiles%2Fmigrations%2Fen-uk%2Ffiles%2FAssets%2FDocs%2FPolls%2Fhousing-home-types-survey-create-streets-slides.pdf&usg=AOvVaw3fFPZpRKR9qe8lZw08ULaw
  15. The cost of motoring is below the cost of living increases as per the Royal Automobile Club -https://www.racfoundation.org/data/cost-of-motoring-index So in real terms it has become cheaper to own and drive a motor vehicle. This is absolutely crazy for air pollution, climate change, etc reasons. It can not be right that we allow a public health crisis to continue to ensure motoring in real terms keeps getting cheaper and cheaper. I'm in favour of the ULEZ and it extending as far as the north and south circular. I want my kids to breath cleaner air. I want to reduce my risk of pulmonary and other health problems by being able to breath cleaner air.
  16. Great to see many saying they've completed the consultation. Please spread the details to friends and family to maximise responses. I've personally responded against this change and will be doing so on behalf of the local Lib Dems. People decide where to live in a balance of public and private transport options to live, work and play alongside work, school and recreation considerations. A number of people will be here in East Dulwich based on where buses can take them. For many changing buses to get from East Dulwich to wherever wasn't part of the equation. So these proposals will have a huge impact on many for no obvious gain - if you wanted to travel directly by bus to Clerkenwell you probably don't live here. Background is the 2016 London mayoral elections all candidate knew that the government subsidy for London public transport was going to be massively cut. The current mayor knew this and also made an election commitment to freeze fares without mentioning the method of achieving this - beware politicians offering freebies. He was relying on Crossrail being delivered on time, which is forecast to generate almost ?1bn of revenue pa, filling that subsidy cut. Sadly the London Mayor and TfL have screwed up and Crossrail is now 9 months late and expected to be delayed further. That's a loss of revenue of ?125 for every resident of London pa. This has create huge extra pressures to cut services to fulfil that election promise. So these bus changes, on top of the already reduced no.40 and 176 bus route frequencies, are part of trying to fulfil that election promise and save money for TfL to avoid fare rises. But their are other ways to see money. The London Mayor has a number of different organisations - TfL, Met Police, London Fire Brigade to name the obvious ones and they don't share back office function, supplier contracts, or offices, etc. I'm amazed no effort is being put into this sharing.
  17. Champion Hill has the same traffic levels as the parallel A Road Champion Park. Champion Hill is part of quiet way and London Cycle Network route 23. That's why the council is proposing this filtered restriction. It will make it harder/longer for residents making some car journeys. It will make it more attractive for those walking and cycling. If we're ever to solve obesity levels, global warming. air pollution we need many more of these proposals being implemented. Hi P68, London's population has risen by 2 million in the last 25 years and is forecast to do the same. Doing nothing will see our residential road suffer the same levels of use/.congestion as our A roads. As indeed is already happening to Champion Hill. People, when faced with congestion, changes routes and travel modes - it evaporates. Much as when you build roads, allow new routes for motor vehicles new traffic is generated.
  18. General point - Southwark Council have typically been taking 6-12 months to respond to such requests. Hi m.rbsn, Email and let's see what we can do to help.
  19. Hi worldwiser, We had hoped for it to be painted on the road side as well as the pavement/station side but that would have required the road to be closed and temporary traffic lights to be installed. That would add about ?5,000 of traffic costs.
  20. What strange proposals. On crystal Palace Road the council plans to remove the traffic islands put in years ago to slow traffic down. The council thinks removing them will reduce conflicts between motor vehicles and people cycling and wont lead ot people driving faster. Then they propose to install islands on Barry Road to slow vehicles down. How topsy turvey - left hand not knowing or caring what the right hand is doing. The obvious measure is average speed cameras. They would kill the speeding problem totally and overnight and cost nothing. They're funded by offering speeders the opportunity of speed awareness course instead of points and the fees for those courses funds the cameras.
  21. Hi Hazel81, This sounds like a great project to apply for funding from the councils Cleaner, Greener, Safer project - https://www.southwark.gov.uk/engagement-and-consultations/grants-and-funding/cleaner-greener-safer/applications Previously I used this route to ensure all local East Dulwich schools have AED's. you'd ideally find locations for them locally and ideally some training as part of any application. If you need any help or advice on how to apply please get in touch with me.
  22. James, Your offer seems disingenuous. Southwark Council highways team are blocking 130 charging points being deployed across Southwark. The locations have already been identified and have the required planning permissions. Southwark Labour are not managing the council to ensure these happen - https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/sep/09/sse-claims-london-councils-are-holding-up-rollout-of-electric-car-charging-points "The Guardian understands that 130 charging points are in limbo in Southwark, a borough which is otherwise seen as good on electric cars. While the points were given planning approval in 2016, permission has not been given by highways management, meaning they cannot be installed. Planning permission expires next year."
  23. Hi Amanda1979, I've chased council officials about this. They have assured me this is being incorporated into the overall view Southwark Council is taking with the site owner. If my Public Right of Way is pursued by the council then the site would have 280m2 of ground so materially important. If you'd like copy of my email chain email me! Hi chazzle, I came up with the idea in 2005, objected to a prior scheme at appeal and then spoke with the developers. I don't recall at what point social housing was dropped. I do recall speaking to several Housing Authority directors who at main planning committee's were saying they would not take on low numbers of social housing - the costs were too high to manage. With respect to 18-22 Grove Vale - council officers stated in reports the library value outweighs the value of social housing and councillors of all parties voted for planning permission being granted. I parallel I have proposed and the council is now exploring building new council housing on garages on Bassano Street and Henslowe Road.
  24. HI Deanna, I lodged, when I was still a councillor, a request for the planning application to be called in if officers were minded to grant permission for A3 use. I asked officers for the report they suggested they had showing Lordship Lane is well above 50% shop use - as past planning applications officers produced reports that we were right on the border of this. We have local policies to not allow fewer than 50% shop units. So good to see one of my and former Cllr Rosie Shimell last acts worked.
  25. Hi Pecksniff, Sadly you've just missed the consultation on the internal fit out and book purchases. Importantly the new library wont have a wall down the middle so will have much more flexibility - the central book cases will be on wheels so they can be moved about. The caf? is really a kiosk with the seating area being roughly twice the current seating area. Overall it should result in roughly twice the current books. I suspect it will feel like the John Harvard Library on Borough High Street - just not so big. The approved scheme is for 250m2. The difference I understand is for Library staff facilities. The current 144m2 I believe includes Library staff facilities. Hi colville09, My lot warned the then Labour government we would have a crash, repeatedly. We were told Labour had 'ended boom and bust' and ignored. The tories were equally complicit in not wanting stronger banking regulation which could have avoided it. No recession in western countries Sweden and Australia; non western China, India, Brazil. i.e. countries with stronger banking regulations.
