  1. When I meet with Police officers they stress they'd like people to report more suspicious activities and not filter so much. They would welcome people calling the Police 101 non emergency number. The activity you've described would in my mind was sufficiently suspicious that the Police would want to know. If they had a spare patrol car or other resource they would be sent. It might deter things from happening or they might catch someone in the act. Only way Policing can work is people reporting suspicious activities. KidKruger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Yeah I thought about it but what to report.
  2. Hi P68, I'm puzzled. I think you're suggesting the inconvenience of people being delayed can be calculated for specific journeys, hours, days but that the loss of sleep for local residents for each night could not be calculated. I don't see why not. When Southwark Council had works to do they made much more effort to minimise nigh time disturbance than TfL have taken.
  3. Hi Robin, We have not funded all BikeHangar CGS applications in the past. So we've taken this opportunity to do that now. Catching up. We have 9900 registered voters in East Dulwich ward. So far 6 BikeHangars or 36 bicycles can be safely stored. Clearly a strategic transport project would be needed to really provide cycle parking at scale. Sadly the current administration has decided not to do this when asked - repeatedly. AS you know we now only have two opportunities a year to allocate or reallocated devolved funding under the new local democracy the current administration has introduced. We used the last Dulwich Community Council meeting to reallocate funds and they should be spent by he next decision making meeting. But please do apply for the CGS projects you'd like us to support when the next round if funding opens in October/November. Regards James. rch Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Just to be clear Rendal, the astonishing update > comment was because just minutes after I posted to > say that I thought the cycle hangars should be > paid for by internal council funding and not > devolved local CGS funding, I found a link > confirming that the council was indeed paying for > hangars in the area and therefore we didn't need > to allocate CGS for this. > > It's actually a good thing. > > And if the council are being encouraged by the > Mayor in one form or another, then that's even > better. > > Hopefully this means that councillors will approve > CGS funding for things that residents actually > apply for in the future... which is what CGS > funding is supposed to be for. > > Nigello... sadly, there was a situation a while > ago where cycle hangars were cut open and the > cycles easily stolen. 4. Hi Tuffsteuff100, College ward councillors would need to allocate funds. Best way would be for you to application for CGS funds for a BikeHnagar when the next round opens around October/November. I can help you complete the application form. If you email me I'll put something in my diary to contact you when applications are being accepted. Best email to reach me is [email protected] Tuffstuff100 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Is money available for college ward too? 5. Hi first mate, We have no CGS underspend to reallocate. The next round of CGS should open for applications in October/November.
  6. Hi Sally, IF they are East Dulwich residents then please get them to contact me at [email protected] Sally Eva Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Have you got a link for the East Dulwich Bike > Hangars? 7. Hi P68, People don't function as well with insufficient sleep. That results in them being less safe and less productive. Regards James. 8. Hi Sue, Southwark Council no longer operate a phone line to report such issues but want everyone to report it via an online reporting here - https://forms.southwark.gov.uk/beta/ShowForm.asp?fm_fid=1541&np=1 If you get stuck please escalate the issue to me by emailing me at [email protected] Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > James, please could you tell me who I should > contact re emptying a dog poo bin at the end of > Ulverscroft Road, which is overflowing. > > It isn't exactly encouraging people to pick up > after their dog if they can't then put their bag > in a bin.
  9. Hi first mate, The council has a highways repairs and renewals budget. Most years it is ?5M. I would argue our pavements and roads need a major investment to bring them into a proper state of repairs. Over the next 10 years the council has a ?1bn plus capital programme. My lot would fix the pavements and roads as a priority for the benefit of every one who walks, cycles, uses public transport of private motor transport. Encouraging more people to cycle over using any other means of transport other than walking is a great way to help preserve the roads condition we currently have. Bicycles have the lowest impact of any non walking transport - as well as almost no air pollution. NB. For transparencyI chaired Southwark Cyclists for a number of years before becoming a councillor and have been a member for what must be 25 years. I'm also a member of Living Streets, Cyclists UK (formerly CTC), AA breakdown cover. first mate Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Rendel, > > My post was clearly in response to Ed History's > question. 10. Hi Robin, I would suggested the devolved highways renewals budget of ?33,333 each year the better approach to fix pavements, etc. I've asked several times for East Dulwich and other Dulwich wards to be devolved our allocation for this year so we can get it spent. Sadly the current administration has released it yet 4 months into the financial year. 11. At the last Dulwich Community Council we agreed to use our devolved funding for another 7 such BikeHangars cross East Dulwich ward. If anyone has a location they think one should be placed - lease let me know.
  12. Hi johnhinton, P68, Also a real economic hit when people don't get a proper nights sleep. Most car journeys in London are optional. Not all but most. Sleeping isn't optional. The works could have been programmed for a Saturday or Sunday day time for example.
  13. Hi dulwichrich, These road works would have been approved by TfL consulting with Southwark Council. TfL ignore the noise problem for residents and minimise the inconvenience for south circular road users by having the works undertaken at night. Those earlier works involved some Southwakr COuncil works and were as a result more influenced to have some regard to local residents. Philosphocially do we want as a society to maxmimise traffic regardless of local people - the TfL approach. Or do we consider local people sleep as more important than TfL road users beign delayed udirng the day. The social and economic evidence suggests the latter is better for society but portrayed as part of a 'war on cars'. The car, lorry, petrol/diesel lobbies are extremely well funded and newspaper owners support them.
  14. Hi Andy, Sorry to hear this. Are you sure its the part for the new school or the new super clinic? Former is the bit closest to the railway line and the latter nearer East Dulwich Grove. I'm at work taking a quick sandwich - so ideally you'd email me at [email protected] so I get cracking on this on the way home from work. Hi Robert Poste's Child, The proposed works do seem incredibly slow. They were also proposed to start before the official governance and decision making process hadn't finished - jumping the gun. I think my lot have stopped that now. I will ask to see the project plan and be walked through the timescales.
  15. This is unlikely to be random. Had the same thing happen us. But I couldn't be bothered to get out of bed. Next thing they'd kicked the font door in expecting an empty house. I jumped out of bed and chased them out of the house and called the Police. Stranger knocking at that time please call Police 101 no emergency number. Might be genuine. Much more likely someone looking for an empty home to burgle.
  16. Hi Callo143, Can you email me your address please and any reference numbers form your contact with the council and I'll get it sorted for you. Hi first mate, i'd rather people didn't empty such bins on the road - possibly gets things resolved but what a res and work for the street cleaners to clear-up. Not good.
  17. Hi Renata, Many thanks, that's what I've now been told. Hi worldwiser, Yes that would be flytipping. Homes above shops often are tenants new to Southwark and don't know how collections work and their landlords don't tell them. Let me get this seen into.
  18. Hi Mimmum, I'm just back from holiday and starting to catch-up. Let me talk to officers first thing tomorrow and come back to you.
  19. Hi trinidad, What a great act of kindness. Lots happen but you can increase the chance of more on your street if you help organise a street party. If you'd like help on how to make this happen get in touch with me.
  20. Hi bargee99, With regards to the recent tragedy of Grenfell Tower I think the public inquiry will attribute many many causes to this. Changes in fire measures in 2005. It is hard to contemplate how a renovation of the tower spending ?8.6M or ?72,000 per flat was too little. Added to that the vandalism of dry and wet risers, vandalised fire doors making the only fire escape stair case impassable to so many, not reporting the original fire for 35mins after it took hold, large quantities of combustible materials placed in hallway lobbies. As well as the now obvious cladding system. Local bugets. All three East Dulwich councillors agreed to reallocate funds to a study of a proposed new zebra crossing on Whatelely Road, planning enforcement along Lordship lane, new BikeHangars. On the last point. If we help encourage more people to cycle and drive a little less then our road surfaces will last a little longer. With regards to those pavement and road surfaces. We have ?33,333 of devolved budget to fix these locally. We've been waiting since March to allowed to allocate these funds - the administration is dragging its feet letting us do this. But I'd welcome everyone's suggestions. Lordship Lane - but in a way where businesses don't have to close for any time losing revenue as they're struggling to cope with the new business rates.
  21. Hi nxjen, The membership of the EDS and neighbouring civic society were invited to an EGM of the EDS at the East Dulwich Community Centre. Hi edhistory, I've already seen a big shift in the monthly eNewsletter published by the Dulwich Society and the paper quarterly magazine has started covering more East Dulwich and SE22 stories for some time. I know their various sub-committees have been getting involved but with more East dulwich residents can do even more of this.
  22. This picture was of the cheque being handed over from the East Dulwich Society, represented by Janet, to the Dulwich Society, represented by Ian, the final act of the formal closure of the East Dulwich Society and transfer of members and assets to the Dulwich Society. My involvement was to encourage the East Dulwich Society to decide on its future and then support them agreeing their decision with the Dulwich Society. For some years the Dulwich Society has had more East Dulwich members than the East Dulwich Society and have been supportive in many East Dulwich projects and campaigns. A number of local residents are key members of the cultch Society. I would encourage East Dulwich residents to join the Dulwich Society and get involved lcoally -http://www.dulwichsociety.com/membership
  23. Hi seenbeen, If you email me Ill ask council officials to review it - usually they get removed once the original applicant is no longer using it. Hi Emmie42, GLA Assembly member Caroline Pidgeon reported this issue to me several weeks ago. So you can thank her. Really should be on a proactive maintenance list - I'm pushing for this. Hi kford, This seems a systemic issue. I reported it yesterday and several other instances. It should take long to get fixed...
  24. Hi edhistory, I'm dead keen on Bikehangars for people who can't store they bicycles in their home easily. With Global warming and the UK's obesity epidemic active travel such as cycling or walking more is critical to all our futures. But I'd like the roll out of Bikehangars to be at scale with scale economies. Agree with you singalto.
