Sadly DB&B the saga continues. It appears that the 3rd floor flats have been built higher than the approved plan. I can;t believe that's an error from professional builders. The electric substation condition about noise hasn't been met and so it and the development dep. on its power are operating illegally disturbing nearby residents with humming noises. So at public expense these will now be investigated and eventually after the developer slowly drags feet having caused this expensive resolved.

East Dulwich Hotel - any info on what's happening?
James Barber replied to Jo31's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The more people that object the greater the chance the council will properly review the scheme. I've submitted an objection and will also organise a councillor call-in if officers are minded to grant permission. Reasons I've given are proposed height and massing - we live in a suburban area and what is proposed isn't. No cycle parking - but that would be easily resolved if the developed funded a BikeHanagar. A construction management plan would be required as Upland Road pavements have been closed for nearly two years now and this development if it were to proceed should not involve the pavement being closed. Please do object or offer your support - but get involved. -
Southwark still allows people to apply for dropped kerbs. If on A roads then the council if it grants permission will insist on lots of double yellow lines around the new dropped kerb. AS councillors in Dulwich were challenging this the decision has been removed from local councillors and now resides with the council leader. For non A roads no double yellow lines are required - a tiny local victory for common sense. Hi pipsky2008, They have to be formally constituted. Whether that includes a complaints procedure I don't know but good practice would suggest it does. This page on Southwark Council website has contact details for officers in place to encourage and nurture them so they should have copies of particular constitutions and be able to advise. If they can;t or asking them tis awkward let me know and I'll ask - but confirm which T&RA if you do. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/1012/council_tenant_involvement/737/tenant_and_resident_associations -
Tickets for parking across unused driveways

Please email me and I will ask why you were given a ticket - I'd hope from what you described it would be cancelled. -
East Dulwich Grove crossing - dangerous drivers!
James Barber replied to Lolamaxx's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We clearly need to do something - it is our most significant crash hot spot locally. Of course the capacity could be reduced. But TfL wouldn't agree to this. TfL would require overall the same capacity remain. That would require removing lots of car parking and change the atmosphere of our high street. So we do need to find a way to make this safer without wrecking Lordship Lane. Approaching council officers they're clear many other places across the whole borough have much higher crash rates and funding is being spent on those - makes sense. That it would be many years before borough funding will reach this junction. So we can't get significant funding. So to fund some smaller scale initial changes, that officers met me onsite and discussed what they thought would help make this junction safer, I applied for a Cleaner, Greener, Safer funding which so far hasn't been agreed with one of the East Dulwich councillors. -
East Dulwich Grove crossing - dangerous drivers!
James Barber replied to Lolamaxx's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This has been raised before - signalling the junction of Lordship Lane with East Dulwich Grove. Putting signals there would reduce capacity of the junction. To counter this no parking would be allowed from Goose Green to the lights outside the Coop. creting two clear lanes each way is likely to boost speeding. This would allow two lanes of traffic required if we maintain capacity. Why not reduce capacity and not removing parking? Apart from the predicted increase in speeding when green, key stakeholders are TfL who operate and install all traffic lights - they wont agree capacity reduction, TfL buses who wont allow delays to buses. We did have junction with different coloured surface and removing that at the natural crossing and the raised bump has been moved back and reduced angle. This has all contributed. I have applied for CGS funds to improve this junction back to what we at least had before it was all round softened. SO far I've not been able to take Cllr Charlie Smith with me so nothing has happened yet. -
Trains cancellations - latest

Hi rahrahrah, That's how TfL manage London Overground and it seems to work really well. GTR management with the help of the RMT union, supported by the DfT seem to have all forgotten rail services are meant to be a service for the convenience of passengers. -
Recycling not collected for two weeks
James Barber replied to Shaila Shah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Shaila Shah, The current system is every week either normal rubbish or recycling is collected . So a fortnight between each of those collections. The exception is food waste and garden waste which is still weekly. If after 6pm on the due date you've not had the correct collection you should contact the council. You can double check what date things will be collected via -http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200084/recycling_and_waste/1362/what_are_my_collection_days_and_service -

Hi rahtrahrah, If all those affected reported the noise disturbance it would be dealt with promptly by council officers. The appearance vigilantism could be counter productive. -

Hi hertburs, I think it's just TfL being slow. They need to issue a traffic management order to close the lane. Burn of the current wrong road markings. Paint and dry the new markings. I suspect this will be v.early one Sunday morning - clearly August would be ideal as quieter. I will chase Caroline to ask when things will happen. I suspect it will take some time to extract an answer. -
Hi gaby1st, Walsh Glazing is still in the area - but it found it didn't need a high street presence. We haven't lost any hardware shops. I think the issue edhistory has highlighted about rate valuations is however very serious if we wish to keep small indie shops on our high street.

Hi jazzeyb, In your shoes I would contact my building insurer for them to comment. This must have a cause and you need peace of mind it's not a problem. Equally you could ask a local councillor for support - they would ask officers for a copy of any technical report reassuring you and them not a substantive problem.

Hi sarahemjones, They all share a common part of the network from just west of Peckham Rye to beyond Peckham Queen's Road. So every once in a while we will see all those rail lines closed. Bloody annoying if it affects a particular journey though. And too many train are replaced by buses. -

Hi Asset, Your points will be included and are helpful extra detail. Thank you. The decision to place classrooms temporarily there I did challenge at the planning application stage as the loss of car parking is clearly likely to impact the immediate area. The actual ward councillors for Village ward where this is located were happy. -

Denmark Hill station: Beyond a joke
James Barber replied to LouiseC's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi TB, The new ticket machine is planned to be outside the left hand side ticket counter just beside the wide gate. A one-way would only work with a several more members of staff. I doubt this will happen. Rightly the rail network is under pressure to become more efficient rather than add lots of costs. Repeated above inflation ticket price rises aren't acceptable. Hence the RMT fighting so hard against Southern introducing Driver Only Operated trains on the few remaining routes. The one ray of sunshine will be if TfL take over this station - it clearly needs to be redone having been mightily screwed up. The root cause appears to have been Southwark Council planners saying the walkway couldn't be dramatically widened. The project team being solely funded under Access for All and not for huge growth of passenger numbers. Hence new facilities that only a minority wish to use and are not fit for current purpose. I've raised the over crowding as a H&S issue with the Office for Rail Regulation the body responsible for H&S on the rail network so far with no joy. -
The littered isles are a breach of H&S enforceable by Southwark Council who are now acting on the photos helpfully provided by DF to me. I'm amazed people are so obtuse about this. If someone trips or falls they would have obvious pain and suffering. Our local NHS would have to try fixing them for entirely avoidable falls and trips. DF has done a public service by highlighting this and initially trying to get the store management to act more professionally.

Hi Lollipop, If you email me at [email protected] I'll seek to get this sorted for you. Sadly you can no longer ring them up to correct this directly. -
Changing a shop A1 to restaurant A3 would require a change of use which I would anticipate being hard to obtain.

Denmark Hill station: Beyond a joke
James Barber replied to LouiseC's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
An application for certificate of lawfulness has been submitted to add a second ticket machine at Denmark Hill station. I've asked if permission to grant this can be speeded up as it would go a little way to reduce over crowding. -

Hi rahrahrah, I've had residents noise casework where a noise diary helped progress the case to resolution. But they're not an instant fix obviously. But officers having to witness the noise form bedrooms isn't ideal but apparently is legally required. -
Poorly trained P13 Driver(s)

I could raise such a case with fuller details. Nothing to stop anyone complaining to TfL and if unhappy with response a councillor could escalate. If you want my help please do email me directly.
