  1. Darkest Surrey. They were famous fa cup giant killers in the seventies.
  2. Leatherhead in the final. What romance.
  3. And they've won, 3-1. Play off final next
  4. Hamlets 2-1 up at half time.
  5. A proofer? A deather? David Aaronovitch needs to write another chapter.
  6. I liked the image created by David Letterman's "72 Vegans" awaiting OBL in paradise. But as ever in these matters it's best to turn to Mark Twain who said: 'I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure.'
  7. That's a good one. Very good.
  8. Elton John's bringing out a song to mark the occasion. [edited because i see this joke has appeared in the Daily Mail] That's evidence enough for me.

Bill Ward is no Professor Wallofski. Listen to the drumming on Symptom. That's not the stuff of music hall foolery
  10. This is not a healthy open debate: this is a cross between a kangaroo court and a saloon bar sh1tfight. The school's responsible for the education of 100s of children. This thread can only damage the school. The issue is best dealt with by the LEA, the school and parents in private. Those of us with no interest should keep out.
  11. Thanks for that Malumbu. Very helpful. This is a private matter for the school, the governors and parents. Discussion on this forum can only do damage. It should be locked.

And Minder - maximum respect to your son and those like him: the water hander outerers were fantastic. Lots of them young people too.

Sweet Jesus it was tough. Anyone else do it?
  16. Otta Not the point. Some of us believe in a secular education system.
  17. DaveR - Very good advice: Schwalbe Marathons are the best. Applesider - ditto. Bus lanes are your friend. Plus i'd look to spend at least ?400 on a bike. Once you've tried it you won't look back. Kepp your arse back in the saddle, maintain the same cadence, and wipe the flies of your teeth every ten minutes. sorted.
  18. Not just you. I had to walk backwards down stairs for a week. My toenails fell off. And I didn't run right for a month afterwards. Good to do though
  19. I'm doing it. Tips having done it before. * Run hardly if at all in the last week. Taper madness will make you feel you should: ignore it. And Taper madness will make you feel like you're injured when you're probably not. * Do not eat too much the night before. And not much fibre unless you want the world to fall out your bottom. * Go to the expo before the out of towners arrive - so ideally Wednesday or Thursday. Do not leave it until Saturday afternoon. Take your passport/driving licence. And don't waste money on the Pasta Party * Pin your number on well: if you lose it or it falls off you will not be allowed to complete the race. * When on Blackheath/Greenwich, queue for the toilets early and once you've been join the queue again. * Take loo roll with you. The stuff in the portaloos is like sandpaper and that's if there's anything left * If people are coming to watch you, make sure you know where they are. The crowds are huge. Tell them to avoid areas such as Greenwich, London Bridge, Canary Wharf and the embankment. Crowds are five deep there. I'd recommend Surrey Quays/Jamaica Road and between Limehouse and Blackfriars. * Do not assume the crowd will get you round. There are grim bits on the course: Limehouse to Blackfriars is like a war zone. Prepare for the mental strain as well as the physical. * Apply Vaseline to your feet and amply to any chaffable areas. * The road cambers can kill you. Stay on the crown of the road and don't move from side to side. You'll end up doing over the 26.2 * If you're no athlete (like me) allow yourself the option of the odd walk. A couple of minutes through the Lucozade sport stations won't alter your overall time and might even improve it. * Don't overdrink. The last person to die on the course (2oo7) died because he drank too much. Oh and enjoy the day!
  20. "They are offering a service to customers that is restricted to one group of customers and discriminates against others based solely upon marital/family status" The service of being able to park in the car park is offered to all customers. The fact that the children bays are marginally closer to the store is not material in the definition of service, surely. I don't suppose there is case law on this matter, but I think you would be on a loser with your argument. And quite right too: it's the interest of the child that is paramount here. Of all the cr&p going on in the world, it's jaw-dropping that people are bellyaching about this. Let's us unite instead against perfidious cyclists. Or people living in vans.
  21. The report here's interesting http://www.airportwatch.org.uk/news/detail.php?art_id=2129
  22. They charge for the aquarium? When did that start?
  23. Yes, good luck to the club. I pray this does them no harm. Are they appealing?
  24. It seems rather disprooportionate given the exceptional nature of the circumstances that led to the review. Isn't there a procedure whereby the Police can take a decision on an individual basis whether they want bouncers, metal detectors etc? Clearly a private party with lots of young people present is a different security risk to a Goose event. This seems vindictive to me and could threaten the club, which in turn would be a huge blow to the area. Over zealous licensing authorities, including the Police, have long been the doom of live music in England.
  25. Thanks James. I'd be interested in DHFC's views on whether this decision compromises their ability to raise sufficient revenue to keep the club afloat. Also from Sue whether this will make it more Difficult to Promote (the rather wonderful) Goose gigs. Bad news if so.
