    Get over it

Is the 1.25% being split between employee's and employer's contributions? That, at least takes the sting out of it. I read that people working above retirement age will pay in the future; does that include people who derive income from investments but aren't technically working? And I think I saw something about a rise in the tax on share dividends, so not all bad...
  2. That's a fairly reductive question though... no-one wants more traffic. We all want access to healthcare and education provision.
  3. All what posts? I understand that you saw a cyclist jump the lights. I'm not doubting the veracity of that. I just don't quite get what we're supposed to learn from that in relation to LTNs... maybe you could explain?
  4. What should we glean from that in relation to LTNs? Get over it

Absolutely - NI hits people on lower incomes harder. But then that's what Conservative govt's do. Stick 1% on basic rate tax - 2% on the higher rates, and bring CGT (closer at least) into line with Income tax.
  6. But Corbyn was the party leader at the time of the last council election in 2018. And Labour in Southwark increased their no of votes, no of seats and %share of the vote - also won the two seats for the newly created ward of Dulwich Village - a geography that has the highest Conservative support in the borough. We will learn if LTNs become a cause for regret in the next election this coming Spring.
  7. "and silly labour councils have taken the bait - thinking it would also make them popular with vocal, middle-class voters on nice leafy roads" Do you genuinely believe that is one of the council's drivers for doing this?
  8. Just catching up on some of these posts. So... Dulwich active travel levels are already super-high, probably couldn't get higher - they're at the maxiimum basically. But also... cycle journeys had a boom in the first lockdown, and that has now all but evaporated. Might take me a little while to process that.
  9. Athenlay run sessions for younger children on a pay and play basis on Saturday mornings recommencing I believe on Sat 11th Sept. These sessions happen in the Athenlay club ground at Homestall Road. Players need to be registered with the club in advance to participate. Feel free to PM me for more info if needed.
  10. Thanks for sharing the link. Have you looked at the attached PDFs?
  11. The Nazi thing has already happened on this thread 😬
  12. When and where has anyone said 'nobody needs to do anything else'?
  13. We must never compare London with Amsterdam, it just won't do. They are completely different cities. Hey - look what they're doing in Warsaw and Turin! :)
  14. I really don't want to hear anyone's political, religious or other messages blaring out of a loudspeaker when I'm on a bus. That's a public nuisance! Well done for having a word!!
  15. Thank you - I didn't even know what that is, but I do now - and where to get it.
  16. There's no way of knowing exactly how all their future customers will travel to and from. But there are nurseries everywhere (even in that street), so not sure why someone would travel from out of area to take their kids to that one. The other nurseries may well legitimately feel their business would be threatened by a new competitor. As much as I wouldn't wish any other business to suffer, that's how a free market operates, and isn't grounds to deny planning consent, is it?
  17. I didn't know it had been left to the community - could you shed any light on that? It's 500M from the train station, I think a lot of people would drop their kids and walk on to get the train to work.
  18. Is that limited to the Lounge? :)
  19. He was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, and lived there into early adulthood. Is that what you think we sound like?
  20. Gala have offered residents heavily discounted tickets each year since they started.
  21. Sure... in the same way that ex Labour MPs hold loads of influence with the current government? And Sarah Palin is currently shaping policy for the Biden administration?
  22. In Melbourne Grove, it?s probably something else. It?s really not that loud.
  23. Which in turn was heavily indebted to samples and interpolations from the music of the generation before... Peckham Rye Park really is as good a location as anywhere else within the borough; certainly anywhere that isn't already hosting something similar. It's a densely populated area, where else within Southwark would you suggest that doesn't have residential property nearby?
  24. That?s a pretty bleak outlook on life. Are your u sure it?s the loud music that?s keeping you from getting a good night?s sleep??
  25. We live just one road away from the Common and currently can?t hear a thing. Have been able to at other times. No big deal. What is with all the inverse, ooh I hope you don?t die in A&E or get an overdose from taking too many tabs malarkey? That?s very unpleasant. I?d imagine most people who work in A&E have a perspective on life that allows them not to get too worked up about something as trivial as a bit of music in the park.
