  1. The video that was shared had a caption stating that the rider opted to go on a driver awareness course rather than pay a fine. Taking that at face value, it would suggest the police were willing to get involved for his previous misdemeanor(s). That footage was taken by a cyclist with a GoPro style camera. There's a guy who reports hundreds of bad drivers to the police https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/cars/1545332/cyclist-reported-drivers-to-police and apparently has an 80% prosecution success rate. The thing is, someone would need to catch him on camera for the police to be able to prosecute - or for them to catch him in the act. But the reality is they are probably not going to run a stake-out op in Trossachs Road to catch some wally doing wheelies...
  2. 'Honest(Y) at last' is what you said - I don't mind at all being called honest... maybe you could clarify what you meant by 'at last' - I inferred that meant: not so, up until now. Please feel free to correct me. I'm sorry you don't like the phrase 'overwhelming victory' - It's factually accurate. I suspect it's the actuality of it that rankles more than the phrase... but everyone needs a way to vent, I guess. heartblock Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I called you honest, but if that offends... > > "the overwhelming victory of the pro-LTN > councillors" > > and yes this does read as an unpleasant take in my > eyes, considering the pain caused and I'm happy to > be honest and say that. 3. They won an electoral victory - that's an objective fact isn't it? Only in your mind does that infer 'enemy'. Only in your mind does an electoral victory preclude "working with, consulting, bringing a community together." I've never been anything other than honest when posting on this forum. I don't particularly like the insinuation otherwise.
  4. Even if the forum continues, which I hope it does, there must come a point when this dialogue across its many threads becomes redundant. You would think that point would have been the overwhelming victory of the pro-LTN councillors in the election last week.. but maybe we need to allow a bit of time for the reality to settle in
  5. It's closed Dave, which to me seemed like an inevitability from the outset. Hopefully someone will come in quickly and make a better fist of it. It's a great space! CPR Dave Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Does anyone know if "The Brougham" is still open?
  6. I've never heard anyone local refer to LL as 'The Lane' - It's a reverse shibboleth.

  8. Or we could just leave it there...?
  9. They may not have the position to dictate those terms... especially the LibDems Given a binary choice of joining a progressive, left-of-centre coalition, or not.. the first option may be the more favourable for them. SNP may create their own mandate for IR2 with a strong electoral performance
  10. That doesn't sound like my thing especially... although more so than the William Hill that was there previously.

Just got back from the school run... walked across the top of LL ie over the roundabout - it honestly wasn't that busy.
  12. A picture taken at 9:27 this morning on Lordship Lane. I had to take a detour this morning on my way to the polling station, so was surprised the roads were so quiet after everything I have read on this forum about traffic chaos and congestion caused by the introduction new LTNs.
  13. PTAL - Schmeetal When I moved here many years ago, I had already worked out that Brixton and Clapham are on the tube, but East Dulwich is not, Nor, like Clapham Junction or Peckham Rye to a lesser extent was it served by a National Rail interchange station. And to a fairly significant extent, that was reflected in the price of property round here. So I moved here knowing what I was getting. I live close to Goose Green and can't think of anywhere I need to go that I can't get to on public transport quite easily. True, when meeting friends in the West End, I'm slightly envious that those that live in areas served by the Northern and Victoria Lines will get home faster than me, but it's really not news. It's part of the make-up of the area. The trains and buses we have are currently less frequent than pre-pandemic. But the fact that I might have to wait up to nine minutes for a certain bus service, rather than six really doesn't stop me using that mode of transport. I just need to wait a couple of minutes longer or plan slightly better. In my case it is invariably waiting a couple of extra minutes...

CPR Dave Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Not sure why you would think that when they are > longstanding local residents. > > https://www.southwark-libdems.org.uk/goose_green_c > andidates I'm not sure any of the parties are fielding candidates parachuted in from far afield... the three Lib Dem candidates for Goose Green all seem decent enough folk, but in terms of them living locally, ie within the ward: Clare Donachie: "Clare has around Goose Green for the last 23 years and in south London since coming here as a student in the early 90s." Ignoring the proof-read fail - not really sure what around Goose Green means... somewhere near here maybe? Michael Green: "Live near Goose Green" - Not in the area as such, but somewhere close by Sophie Roach: Bio says she works somewhere locally - which in this case means Borough. No mention of where she lives But in fairness to you Dave, these are some of the Lib Dems' stronger candidates - certainly in the south of the borough
  15. Another thread on this....? Anyway - good luck. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/london-elections-may-2022-labour-lead-conservatives-poll-b996500.html
  16. I?m not sure what that means??
  17. The fire engine is at the DV end of Court Lane facing onto Calton Ave. There is no built out pavement there. Court Lane has double yellows on both sides at that end so looks more like it's illegally parked cars that have caused the problem. Unless there is something very odd about the perspective in the photo; as there is unrestricted parking a bit further back allowing for parking on both sides. But that predates the LTN, so not sure how that warrants the headline/angle of the story. The article states: The fire crew were hurtling towards an incident in Eynella Road on 11 April, That appliance is facing the opposite direction from Eynella. It's possible the driver overshot and was looking for a way back, but there are a further three or four right turns they would have gone past to rectify by this point.
  18. Regardless of any particular viewpoint on the rights or wrongs of LTNs, this picture seems to clearly show a fire engine struggling to get passed tightly parked cars - not struggling to get through the junction per se
  19. You preferred the William Hill?
  20. Scooby Doo Went downhill once they introduced Scrappy
  21. Reclaim These Streets took their fight for permission to hold a vigil for Sarah Everard (during lockdown) all the way to the High Court. They lost and went ahead anyway. When amplified speeches began, the police moved in to break it up. The attendees resisted and so they used force to remove people. I thought that was appalling. So would be interested to learn whether LegalAlien and Nigello?s ?rules are rules? dogma applies to that episode too; or needs to be refined to rules are rules - most of the time, and I get to choose when??
  22. "You could level the same criticism at any scheme that restricts motorists (money generator) - CPZs, general parking, speed controls, access controls" Many do... I can't recall any such scheme, and let's add in the reduction to 20mph, and the original congestion charge, that hasn't been met with claims that it's just a money generating wheeze...
  23. Sweetgirl, did you post this on the right thread? How would the ULEZ force people to idle in traffic? Either way, when you use terms like treehuggers to describe those concerned about illegal levels of NO2 and PMI causing thousands of premature deaths every year, you rather give your position away.
