  1. I am all for it. People need houses and the nearby ones on BR and on PR are tall - look at the Clockhouse and its neighbours - and the super-large trees would put the five storeys in context. As for another supermarket, I am not so sure. Could there be a library, a dentist/doctor's surgery etc?
  2. It's good. I have been three times and had the "three flavours for ?2.50" and enjoyed them all. There will be cones and coffee and cakes/pastries in the near future, I was told. Avanti!

  5. Penguin68, you sound well informed. Are you able to put that to good use by talking directly to the people in charge of the cemetery and their bosses? Whilst it's a good thing to share you knowledge here it's unlikely to reach the powers that be unless you make an effort to do so.
  6. Great idea - but now you just have to make sure it gets to the right person. I doubt that person is reading the EDF, though it is a possibility.
  7. Agreed. I have, though, also seen parents with their kids riding on the roads and doing it very safely, even young children, so hats off to them.
  8. He was there around 1630 yesterday, ticketing people who'd parked (illegally) during rush hour.
  9. Book a cheapish ticket to York and stay there or even go a bit further to Harrogate, where there is a lovely Victorian Turksih spa (mixed sessions available), lots of green spaces, a fantastic Bettys (sic) tea-shop and various bars and restaurants. If you hired a car for a day you could drive out to N Yorkshire moors etc.

If you're having a house sale etc and you're putting up paper signs on trees, rails etc. do please take them down afterwards: it's a reasonable request. It's bad enough the council not removing those yellow laminated A4s after the statutory three weeks are up.
  11. I get a car into work (which starts at 0500) which is very welcome. Going home, if you are able to get to Victoria easily I would use the frequent services Denmark Hill or Peckham Rye (about 9 - 12 minutes) and then continue by bus. It's a bit of a faff to go Tube>>Rail>>Bus and it is more expensive than taking the bus alone, but it's quicker and more reliable, in my experience.
  12. I got a survey though the post the other day from MORI/Ipsos (?) all about local transport and roads etc in SE22. I filled it in, saying I was broadly satisfied but that more buses (and more express services and one or two fewer stops) are needed. Really don't know why it takes so long for Tubes to be extended etc. I'm glad that it's not China or somesuch where people's wishes are not always taken into account, let alone their rights, but I really can't see why it'd take fifteen years to extend an underground line.
  13. I started a link a few weeks ago and it was taken up by the council, via James Barber (and - perhaps - others). I personally posted about four tree-pits that needed filling and three have been filled. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1470880,1494782#msg-1494782
  14. It isn't unloved. Just because it hasn't been gentrified or commodified or committeefied doesn't mean people don't use it - they do! I like the fact it's a little bit "wild" (though let's not overstate this - it's not a highland forest) and the wildlife certainly appreciate that fact.
  15. I hope Forest Hill Road finally turns that corner and ends up more like this parade. The closure of the William Hill and the laundry and now the French cafe isn't doing it any favours.
  16. James, Is Rebecca the person to talk to re overgrown trees on Barry Road (e.g. outside 174 but also all along the road)? The trunks are very thick and when the branches and twigs grow out it can really obstruct the most nimble of folk.
  17. Bermygirl - agreed, but then I think about whether the person can either afford to or can physically deal with tending their garden. There are some right shockers (like the one on CPR with the blinds that never open) but who's to say whether the owners of such gardens are unable to do the work or simply just CBA.
  18. Does anybody have any idea about what the old laundry, former William Hill and ex French cafe on Forest Hill Road will become? The laundry has suffered from vandalism recently.
  19. Why did the police wait an hour (according to reports) before the ambulance came? Surely they could have taken the victim to the hospital? I am assuming there was more than one police officer - they usually arrive in great numbers.
  20. Whether or not the tree was right to be there, to destroy it - and to leave the remnants blocking the street - is not acceptable. I hope the person will be caught and fined.
  21. Imagine yourself as an infirm/blind/handicapped person or someone with a pram/naughty child/dog/lots of bags and then think just how far your bush ought to protrude. I think all of them ought to be right back to give as much room as possible to the pedestrian. It's only fair.
  22. Personally, I'm looking forward to a small area of the pavement which won't be an obstacle course of piled up rubbish. Spot on! The lane is long and busy enough for a variety of businesses.
  23. It's there to be provocative and whilst I get the idea that "this is the centre of the world" etc it shouldn't be an excuse for people to settle for (sometimes) poor transport and (general) overcrowding. A case in point: loads of new houses are going up along Walworth Road and near Camberwell Green (which is good), so will the bus firms be putting on more buses?
  24. Pick it up and throw it back inside. Or, pick it up and put it in your own bin: being gracious can often feel better than being vengeful!
  25. Great idea, Broadbean, but I doubt it will catch on around here. You have only to look at the state of some people's privets/trees etc to show how little some people care about their environment.
