  1. I agree with WW, who said Treating the practice badly is not an adult reaction to being treated badly in the first place. That's schoolyard behaviour. If you can't make an appointment, ring or text or go online to tell them. It's your responsibility! DMC does need improvement on several fronts, but so do some people whose beggar thy neighbour attitude is childish and corrosive.
  2. Tesco is good. It piggbacks O2 and is cheap and you can collect Tesco points too.
  3. 339 Lordship Lane (near the Crystal Palace Road bus stop, southbound) 52 Sylvester Road
  4. I agree about the buses. The default position of many drivers is to be an "amber gambler"; some burn the red lights. I've complained to the driver a couple of times when they've gone through red. I encourage others to do the same.
  5. It's an ongoing problem, I am afraid. Plenty of drivers think that burning a red light, even in slow-moving traffic, is the only way to go. A coach nearly ran me over at Waterloo after *accelerating* through a red light a few weeks ago. (I got the reg plate, complained and she was disciplined, according to the firm.) Best you can do is do the same and keep your eyes peeled.
  6. Thanks rch. Would this thread not be useful to persuade the powers that be that we would like the pits filled in before the 1m x 1m rule is imposed. THe empty pits look forlorn: at least have the manners to fill them in with concrete or a paving flag, council!
  7. I'm hoping that not all of these empty pits are ones that have already been condemned to a barren future. (I PMd James so he knows that this list is here.)
  8. I am not surprised it is coming, but I do think it just a tad "previous" to coin an old-fashioned use of the word. Just look at the rate of change in many places off Rye Lane and understand that Foxton's is going for a place that's best placed for footfall and - probably - cheapish rents for its latest venture. In the same way that Lordship Lane itself isn't the place people want to live, but in the surrounding area, people won't really want to live on Rye Lane but in the streets off it instead, so the location of the estate agent's itself is not that relevant. The pace of change is quicker than in SE22 but this part of SE15 is starting from a lower base. Give it a couple of years or so and the whole area from Dulwich Library down to its Peckham equivalent will be much more of a muchness.
  9. 207 Friern Road
  10. If not replaced with a tree, then what about putting a replacement nearby? BTW, there is a nice, new mini-copse (OK, that's going too far - a handful of new saplings) on the corner of Peckham Rye and E Dulwich Rd.
  11. Please add to the list the locations of empty tree pits in SE22. It's so that councillors - and anyone else who has influence - can see where trees should be replanted (or not, if they don't want them back for whatever reason). 49 Landcroft Road 9 Goodrich Road 95 Goodrich Road
  12. I wanted to start a thread where people could locate empty tree pits so that councillors could see where trees are needed. It would have been a "one-stop shop" rather than councillors having to look around in various places on here to find out where trees have been taken away or have died. I will repost under "Empty tree pits in SE22".
  13. You glanced around to see if anyone was looking before you dropped it. I was, actually. So why not say something? Sheesh. What is the point of trying to locate and shame a complete stranger on a website that is used by thousands of people? Do the right thing - pull the slatternly dog owner up over her bad behaviour at the time, but don't come on here and whine impotently about it.
  14. I posted a thread asking people to list where there are empty tree pits, to draw attention to Cllr Barber (and everyone else) so that more trees can be planted. It was up for a while, then disappeared overnight (Thursday into Friday 6th). Why, admin, is this so? (NB I searched various keywords, including my login, but cannot find it, so if I am mistaken and it is actually lurking somewhere, do let me know.)
  15. Please add where there are empty tree pits that need new trees in them so that Cllr B (and/or others) can get them refilled. Thanks 11 and 95 Goodrich Road 49 Landcroft Road
  16. As a last-ditch effort, why not ask for responsible individuals to plant them in their own gardens and promise to takecare of them. That way, the work won't have been wasted and the trees will continue to prosper and give pleasure.
  17. Pavement access will still stay open - so cyclists should be fine as well. ?
  18. It's "alternative". Shame about the path, too. Sounds like lack of consideration on the part of the contractor and/or council.
  19. Good on you and good for asking them! There are other threads about this kind of behaviour but not everyone has words with the perps.
  20. Did you follow them, ask them what they were doing, ask them to stop, tell them you were calling the police, or just come here and write about it?
  21. Ahem.... People who say "students" when they really ought to say "pupils", especially if they think it makes them sound more modern, trans-Atlantic and/or like they're "empowering" school children by giving them a more adult-sounding name.
  22. 20mph signs being painted on LL near to the junction with CPR this morning.
  23. Sete, Pezenas, Beziers, Nimes are all very nice (even better with the accents etc. that I can't find on this keyboard).
  24. Magnifique! Enfin, the bloody awful yellow and blue place next to the barber's will be no longer an eyesore. Shame that the laundry won't be turned into something useful soon.
  25. BBC: 11:37: Waitrose jobs Waitrose has just put out a press release saying it expects to create 2,000 jobs in new and "extended" shops, as well as in a new online grocery depot. They are opening seven supermarkets and seven convenience stores. One in King's Cross includes a cookery school.
