Where are you in, IlonaM? They say raptors can be seen over Peckham Rye and on Dawson's Hill but I have yet to see one. (A jay did pop in to my garden yesterday, though.)

Conway?s setting up Road works at 1am outside house

Seems like presuming allows them to get away with disturbing people. Ring up and complain and get them to say in writing they have permission. -
Anywhere selling real christmas trees yet?

The tree sellers at the Plough were setting up on Wednesday morning. -
Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
Nigello replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I agree that bigger bins or at least a doubling would be useful. And, sounds trite but isn't - if you put litter in a bin, push it down or crush it before you put it in to help. That will help reduce overflowing. -
Another young mother with no helmet, no bell but with child as pillion passenger, racing on an e-scooter down the sloping pavement to school. Such a moron; poor kid could be maimed or killed should his "mother" get involved in an accident. Shame on her and others who think it couldn't happen to them.
-
Oh, that helps a great deal. So, they are even heavier when they plough into you and a nice sticker that tells people to wear helmets is bound to be adhered to! You see pillion passengers, including kids, on them all over the place, often on the way to school, believe it or not. If posh mummies and daddies insist on riding on the pavement on their thick-tired e-bikes, then what hope for e-scooter riders?

Are you presuming too much? Maybe they think that everyone will assume they have permission when they really don't. I would ring up Conway HQ and ask for a manager's email address, complain and CC your MP and councillor's email. Even if it is correct that they have the council's permission I think your MP would be keen on knowing that this goes on. -
I saw a notice pinned to a post near to the Picture Gallery entrance to the park, saying that a bay for e-scooters was to be placed very near to the bus stop there. Not impressed, given the tools that ride them (and often give rides to others) on pavements, near dogs and kids, etc. Maybe the good folk of Dulwich will be more sensible..?

Bulb was a-ok with its ukele/whistle-based advertising and quirky ads at the Picturehouse but failed miserably when (failing to) install my smart meter properly. I jumped ship to Eon which still has fully green electricity and is big enough to weather storms. Was easier to communicate with Eon than Bulb which buried its head and refused to switch my gas meter to one that works properly.

I urge people to use the online approach. You can fill it in and you will get a phone call back from a medic, usually a doctor in my case. Be very specific and concise to help them digest it all. I think it helps them to have it written down - symptoms, times, background conditions. I heard the head of the NHS on Today (there was another woman so perhaps it was actually her) who said that "upstream" concerns, like the general health of the population, need to be addressed if we want a better functioning NHS. I don't disagree. Some folk have bad luck in terms of what they inherit from their father and mother (and their parents, going all the way back) and others don't even know they have bad lukc till it is too late, so losing weight, not smoking, being on the ball when it comes to STI hazards, sleeping well, etc. etc. are all within most of our remits.

Buses are very busy at certain times, much less busy at others. How could TfL recognise this and work around it? Smaller vehicles for certain routes at certain times? Routes that overlap at certain points being reduced or withdrawn? Work with what you've got!

And fallen leaves = blocked drains (whcih are rarely unblocked unless you call and complain about huge puddles that form after heavy rain). -

Hear, hear. Unfortunately, some (most?) councillors do not reply and that leads people to use the path of least resistance, which results in more work for the ones who do put themselves out there. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/allservices - report all kinds of things here -

Lordship Lane Estate: Stop the tower block petition
Nigello replied to oliviassmith's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes, six or so storeys seems a practical and rational height for a Zone 2 building. Some of the four-storey buildings that were built in the late Victorian age are almost as tall as modern ones with more floors. Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, etc. all have those five/six storey blocks and look good with them, though I understand that this is a cultural and social convention that may not be easily introduced into the UK where we have smaller dwellings in terms of height. -

Not signing - peopel need homes, especially council homes, and this is a place that is near to some very big and wide open spaces, including an ancient woodland. I appreciate there are other concerns but I still think that Londoners are aware of needs in the housing area. -
Price of a pint of Beer in the Lane
Nigello replied to JCoftheN's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Meanwhile, 'Spoons a bit of a way further up into F Hill will give you a pint of IPA or bitter from about ?2.60 and will even bring it to your seat when you use the app. (I don't go there, just am aware of its enticements.) -
I agree that we need housing and if that means building on land currently used for garages, then good! I like the idea of low high-rise, or whatever the official term is. I like the 3 and 4-storey buildigns you see around, like on Walworth Road and even Lordship Lane. It seems sensible to build up another twenty feet than build out, though I do understand that such accommodation is not suitable for all.

I walked around there for the first time in ages a few weeks ago and found it a bit dispiriting and empty, what with the scrawled-on walls and the feeling of remoteness. Does the club have an obligation to keep the area around it clean?

Do we have a Defibrillator in East Dulwich?
Nigello replied to monica's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There is a charity that I heard of on Today on Wednesday. Perhaps they woudl be able to help you, given they are already funded and maybe would be able to provide one. https://www.communityheartbeat.org.uk/ - I think this was it. There is also https://londonhearts.org/ and others - just do a search for more.
