  1. I don't think buses are expensive, especially when you take into account that some fares are subsidised for certain categories. You can bus hop now so can cover a fair distance for ?1.55, for example. I could do with more routes, but don't hold my breath. Thing is, once you have a car you feel the need to use it to get your money's worth (very hard to do in reality because they sit static on a road or drive for most of their lives).
  2. I think those in big houses (I mean, richer people) would have the same number of vehicles even if we had a Tube or even a couple more bus routes that would connect parts of our area that are not on the main LL drag. Disposable income goes on shiny things, often. Maybe they'd have smaller vehicles but I still think they'd be likely to have a similar number of cars. People like them, unfortunately, and are not prepared to go without them. Can't blame them to some extent as our post-war development has been predicated on private transport.
  3. Collections are made but those who collect the mail simply CBA to change the metal plate. Same as those who choose to litter the streets with elastic bands. (Solution - pick them up and put them in a pillar box unless dirty, of course.)
  4. I agree. I don't get too het up. If you are hugger-mugger in a train, bus etc. and no windows are open (easily remedied - just open them) then I would see it as a discourtesy but in a place with, like the TJC, high ceilings and open planned layout, then a cleaner working 6 foot away from me wouldn't make me concerned. Best plan is to curtail any kind of close contact unless absolutely NECESSARY (not desired, like going to a party, etc.), get jabbed thrice, stay as healthy as you can and sleep as well as you can. Others with specific needs will know more about their situation than I do, but this would still go for anyone. Relying on public signals like mask wearing risks not knowing the full picture as to what is needed for prevention/mitigation. If you are concerned, ask to speak to the practice manager and send your comments to them and CC your local MP and/or councillor but please don't scare yourself into thinking things are more perilous than they are. As for wiping down surfaces - Covid is very mainly airborne and the chances of picking up the virus after you've touched an infected surface and then your eye, mouth etc. are very small (at least to my knowledge gained from reading reliable sources, like NY Times, BBC, Time, etc.)
  5. I think we need more of those small electrical item recycling boxes. Yes, it gets full but at least it is there and it urges people to use it next time they pass. And Renata;s post can at least serve as a spur to recycle more/compost more and, ultimately, use less or at least reuse stuff. It is not the council's fault that certain items are not recyclable. It is the individual's fault if s/he CBA to put items in the right bin, which must happen at least some of the time.
  6. Try [email protected] . Mr Erasmus is the boss there, I think. He coudl give an answer.
  7. Thanks - does litter placed in Southwark litter bins get sorted, even minimally (eg. glass and metal fished out for recycling) or is it all dumped or incinerated?

  10. Kids are different nowadays - more likely to cycle and less likely to have money to splash out on Tube fares, which are at least twice as expensive as bus fares. If your grandson is a cyclist and/or thrifty, then a place in Zone 2 like Camberwell would be ideal. If his work is, say, in West London, then this is not a good option (unless he is a committed cyclist).
  11. Yes, please show your sources. That way everybody will have facts and not suppositions, rumours, etc. Thanks
  12. Camberwell gets the thumbs up from young (twenties) people I know of via family and work. It is not that far from Waterloo or Oval for transport, even Denmark Hill is walkable and there are buses galore.
  13. https://lavender-hill.uk/2021/04/22/compulsory-water-meters-are-coming-to-clapham-common-northside/ - it could well mean that water meters are to be installed but please confirm with Thames Water.
  14. The former newsagent opposite A J Farmer's (more or less, next to the small watch repair shop) on the Lane is to be a barbershop, so all the best to this new venture.
  15. Re EVs - I have heard say that putting plugs on kerbs is a possibility, running them from the underground cables and/or lampposts.

So, does that mean it doesn't exist? Why post if you don't want to intimate that it is not a cause for concern, or maybe even suggest I am making it up. It does, I see it at least twice a week and feel very concerned for the young, unprotected passengers (more so than the reckless riders). > > I have never seen this happen.
  17. I know of someone who went to King's last weekend and was seen as a walk-in. Apparently it was shut for lunch, or a break at lesat, but I can't recall between what times.
  18. Where are you in, IlonaM? They say raptors can be seen over Peckham Rye and on Dawson's Hill but I have yet to see one. (A jay did pop in to my garden yesterday, though.)

  21. Seems like presuming allows them to get away with disturbing people. Ring up and complain and get them to say in writing they have permission.
  22. The tree sellers at the Plough were setting up on Wednesday morning.
  23. I agree that bigger bins or at least a doubling would be useful. And, sounds trite but isn't - if you put litter in a bin, push it down or crush it before you put it in to help. That will help reduce overflowing.
  24. Another young mother with no helmet, no bell but with child as pillion passenger, racing on an e-scooter down the sloping pavement to school. Such a moron; poor kid could be maimed or killed should his "mother" get involved in an accident. Shame on her and others who think it couldn't happen to them.
  25. Oh, that helps a great deal. So, they are even heavier when they plough into you and a nice sticker that tells people to wear helmets is bound to be adhered to! You see pillion passengers, including kids, on them all over the place, often on the way to school, believe it or not. If posh mummies and daddies insist on riding on the pavement on their thick-tired e-bikes, then what hope for e-scooter riders?
