It is, according to some, linked to the Falun Gong - a harmless method of meditating (according to its practitioners) but, according to the Chinese Communist Party, a splittist and anti-revolutionary enemy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Epoch_Times#Relationship_to_Falun_Gong

I just walked around the Village and thought how peevish and unimaginative it is to have closed perfectly functional streets 24/7 and do nothing else at all with them. I agree that LTNs are useful but agree that some ought to be timed, as in Court Lane/Village junction.

It's the wood ones I mean. Nary a one but a fair few trees lying horizontally across teh footpaths, which I removed, of course! If you (meaning "a person in general, not a contributor to this thread" leave a tree like that you could be causing a blind person a nasty injury or preventing people with mobility problems from getting about.

Where have all the Xmas tree bases gone? Most trees I see in the street (often stood up but sometimes prone and trip-friendly) have not got the round bases. Does Southwark stipulate removal pre mulching? They are good when dried for firepits etc.

Pugwaah - great questions. Please address them to the right people to ensure at least the vague hope of a result.

Goose Green councillors - how can we help?

https://www.gov.uk/find-your-local-councillors Useful to find your councillor for your ward. -
The NHS is not a sacred cow. Praise it but also point out its failings, even when times are tough. Otherwise you end up with false reverence and that serves nobody well.

Rye Lane needs buses. It?s a wasteland at the best of times and wandering pedestrians dodging racing cyclists adds to the Mad Max feeling. Buses make it feel like a bit more like a normal high street (if you shut your eyes to avoid the vandalism and litter).

It?s never there long enough to sprout. Also, re redwings - saw about four or five in D Park, near the lake close to the tennis courts.

The pound shops are great for suet balls, suet pellets and seed (including Niger). The one just opposite station on Rye Lane has 800g of seed for a quid!

I think a local councillor would be able to find a number to help. Not sure who that is, though. If you find a postcode and then search "find your councillor" you should be able to get it. I agree - what a waste, but hey, it's public money... -
Yes - I made a mistake. Thanks for pointing it out. I meant Review books in Peckham.

TfL: huge increase in walk & cycle casualties in ED
Nigello replied to rollflick's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Malumbu - I refer to those people I see that break the law and endanger themselves and others, not all cyclists who have ever cycled or plan to. It is that simple. I am pro-pedestrian rights because councils put us below*** those that choose to cycle and drive more. Anything that stops people losing life, limb or livelihood is surely a good thing. Bad things happen all the time so why tilt the odds even more against you by ignoring basic safety tenets? *** Eg. Have you seen/experienced the crooked, often water-filled path dips on LL, opposite the cinema, and approximately half of all the dipped, wheelchair-friendlier crossing points on local roads? Been like it for ages and ages, despite complaints. Walking (and I mean walking/wheeling) is seen as the default, so if there are no spendy, splashy plans to boast and tweet about, councils are not that bothered. -

I agree with garages ? so many cyclists have no lights or bells. I?ve seen a mother/child pairing at night with no lights and just SMH. Yummy mummies and dishy daddies ? v?lo love to teach kutie kiddies by cycling on the pavement at rush hour (though some allow the children to ride on the footpath as they stick to the road, which is how it ought to be). Dulwich Village is the epicentre of this entitled behaviour in my experience. Safety is for all, not just those murderous motorists. -

Re the litter - doubling up single bins would also help, as would insisting the street cleaners place blue bags on top of bins to stop foxes. Many do but some don?t. -
Contact You and Yours at BBC R4 - it is based in the Salford buildings.

I, for one, am miffed that the anti-LTN voices have stopped discussion of such measures. I want to see one (as did the council, before they got scared) outside Goodrich at Dunstan's where the road is narrowed already and where Waze, etc. send lots of over-large vehicles down, right next to (not a few yards, or more) a 800+ pupil primary school. Such was the zeal from people who don't live in a hotspot that a blanket ban was put in operation, it seems. The road here narrows (ironically as a safety measure from decades ago)to just over 2m - not the case on any other LTN street - right next to the school. I am in discussion with my MP the council for them to see sense and not to be blindsided by the well-organised and zealot-minded anti-LTN brigade.

Yes, this looks specious - we have jobs to offer you at Caffe Nero (the company) but not this Caffe Nero (the branch). Tacky and unpleasant for those people who are seeking work in difficult circumstances.

Ronni, it IS partly the fault of the market traders. They could have organised themselves and spaced themselves out, not waiting for some council official to ask/tell them to do so. They all know that physical distancing is important so why not work for the benefit of themselves and their customers - and those people who are obliged to walk that way to get home, etc? They are hurting, I know, financially but they are not covering themselves with glory by operating more or less as they did pre-pandemic. People would be better off making rational decisions, such as "let's space out the stalls more" than waiting for instruction. Best of luck

Maybe pictures of children who died because of air pollution on the sides of buses or on billboards on school run routes will hit home harder?

Who needs advice - just drive less or not at all. Bingo - that's it. If everyone applied this piece of advice at least once a week, who knows how much better it could be for all? I just don't think we need to put it in the hands of "the authorities as that divests us of our own agency and investment in the situation.
-
I am pleased this was released and the result. How come, though, that you, legalalien, immediately put it on the shoulders of the authorities rather than saying "let's hope it leads to people reviewing their own car use (alongside monitoring, etc.")- which does have a valid role, of course. People have power but you disregard this, in this instance. Speaks volumes about the pervasive, general "it's not my fault, leave it to someone else" attitude lots of people prefer to adopt when it comes to pollution and congestion.
