Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
Nigello replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Re the litter - doubling up single bins would also help, as would insisting the street cleaners place blue bags on top of bins to stop foxes. Many do but some don?t. -
Contact You and Yours at BBC R4 - it is based in the Salford buildings.

I, for one, am miffed that the anti-LTN voices have stopped discussion of such measures. I want to see one (as did the council, before they got scared) outside Goodrich at Dunstan's where the road is narrowed already and where Waze, etc. send lots of over-large vehicles down, right next to (not a few yards, or more) a 800+ pupil primary school. Such was the zeal from people who don't live in a hotspot that a blanket ban was put in operation, it seems. The road here narrows (ironically as a safety measure from decades ago)to just over 2m - not the case on any other LTN street - right next to the school. I am in discussion with my MP the council for them to see sense and not to be blindsided by the well-organised and zealot-minded anti-LTN brigade.

Yes, this looks specious - we have jobs to offer you at Caffe Nero (the company) but not this Caffe Nero (the branch). Tacky and unpleasant for those people who are seeking work in difficult circumstances.

Ronni, it IS partly the fault of the market traders. They could have organised themselves and spaced themselves out, not waiting for some council official to ask/tell them to do so. They all know that physical distancing is important so why not work for the benefit of themselves and their customers - and those people who are obliged to walk that way to get home, etc? They are hurting, I know, financially but they are not covering themselves with glory by operating more or less as they did pre-pandemic. People would be better off making rational decisions, such as "let's space out the stalls more" than waiting for instruction. Best of luck

Maybe pictures of children who died because of air pollution on the sides of buses or on billboards on school run routes will hit home harder?

Who needs advice - just drive less or not at all. Bingo - that's it. If everyone applied this piece of advice at least once a week, who knows how much better it could be for all? I just don't think we need to put it in the hands of "the authorities as that divests us of our own agency and investment in the situation.

I am pleased this was released and the result. How come, though, that you, legalalien, immediately put it on the shoulders of the authorities rather than saying "let's hope it leads to people reviewing their own car use (alongside monitoring, etc.")- which does have a valid role, of course. People have power but you disregard this, in this instance. Speaks volumes about the pervasive, general "it's not my fault, leave it to someone else" attitude lots of people prefer to adopt when it comes to pollution and congestion.

Trinidad - you are obviously and rightly indignant, you are also expressive and can use a computer to write well. Why not complain to the hospital and CC the MP (maybe it is Helen Hayes - not sure of the boundaries) and include your name, adress and phone number. Nothing will change if you think a King's representative will find your complaint here. CCing the MP is crucial - it means they take more notice, which is not how it ought to be but there you go!

I don't think the stall holders are "doing their best". There are always ways of improving and if they were in fact doing all they could they'd organise themselves better (without a council or government edict) so as to improve the experience and make it safer (not safe, as that isn't achievable). I won't go there and think people who do go and end up hugger-mugger without any masks are doing themselves and wider society a disservice.
-
I saw it and walked down a side street to get to LL. There were lots of 20-40 year olds packed between the two columns of stalls. I think the stalls need to be double spaced at the very least. Lots of self-deception and sense of ?it can?t happen to me and my type of person?.

Please don?t use the trees as your advertising hoardings. They?re beautiful enough without any adornment.

Southwark to auction off Belham Primary's Caretaker's House
Nigello replied to alex_b's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
So, the council needs to do better in cleaning streets, providing shelter, etc. etc. yet it can't sell off stuff to do that? I agree it would be preferable for the property to be used in school, but right now, that's a luxury. In the hierarchy of those with needs, people without shelter or in unsuitable accommodation trump the offspring of already well-housed parents who want their kids to be able to do some in-school finger painting or recorder practice. -
I have seen at least four places where new trees are to be planted - Goodrich, Sylvester, Landcroft amongst others. Has anyone else seen any more?

Without getting all "who would win in a vampire/werewolf fight?", would the chemicals in both vape and smoke exhalations kill off the virus?
-
Agreed. Also, my "you" was the street-friendly "one"!

You don't need a Big Government Figure to tell you to do something. Pare down Christmas and New Year for once and do yourselves and everyone else a favour. If you do go to larger gatherings, don't hug and kiss and keep the windows open.

People are likely tempted to use their own cars ratehr than public transport, plus it's winter and dark, so it is rational to say that it's likely vehicle use will be greater now. To disregard this suggests an unwillingness to deal with reality.
-
They?re no good. Particles and aerosols escape. It?s certainly giving the idea of protection and prevention of passing on the virus but I?d prefer to see masks on people, especially in shops etc.

It'll end in tier three because of this.

Lloyds North Cross Road - Flu Shots
Nigello replied to beansprout's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Everyone 50 and above is entitled to one this year, free of charge. Try Sogim just down from M and S and Superdrug in Camberwell. I have to say that Lloyds on NCR was pretty rubbish - not cancelling appointments twice when they knew they had no vaccine in stock in my case so I went to Boots in the end for one of them. -
Don't just bang on about cycling - it can sound like nobody thinks walking is a good idea. There is definitely a kind of hierarchy (that changes according to one's attitudes) and walking is right down at the bottom, seen as the default and therefore not worth investing in or even talking about. I have no idea which schools in the area seek to encourage walking at least as much as cycling but I wish they would do it more! I remember being able to buy reflectors at primary school every winter term so that you could be seen and be safe if you hung them on your bag or from your coat, etc. Don't see them at all. (I do not think for a minute that a reflector is going to be anywhere near as exciting to an eight year old as it was in the mid seventies but surely some tactics are better than none?)

The road is shut at Friern/Upland due to works, or at least it was yesterday afternoon.

Phone stolen from a mum, by a guy on a bike
Nigello replied to monica's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I agree about reporting it - You may not think it is important but if they get more info they could be more effective. There are other Twitter accounts for Dulwich Hill etc. but if you give any of them a DM telling them where you were in the area they'd point you in the right direction. -
Rockets, I see that and I also see empty stretches of LL, so neither shows a typical situation. It shows a snapshot, that's all. Every day feels like a Friday because you maybe want it to because it reinforces your viewpoint? (You also have a car, so are, ipso facto, part of the problem even though you may not want to believe that.)
