It?s very overcrowded and those stairs/passages are like something from a sixties Soviet film. The exterior is lovely and I?m glad it?s been revamped to an extent but the immediate environs are dystopic ? makes me think of Quatermass and the Pit. It?s doubly bad if you?re disabled, infirm, with kids or dogs. I hope it?ll chsnge for the better soon.

All useful and good for the halo but not likely to stop climate change, even if made compulsory and everyone were compliant. Let?s not forget that as we (rightly) reuse our teabags and switch off the lights.

This bit of Goodrich is different. It was narrowed by half FOR SAFETY years and years ago. Since then traffic has grown and the lorries are heavier, more frequent and more likely to come down not knowing IT?S HALF WIDTH. How?s that for SAFETY? Also, the school told the council it didn?t have the resources to manage a barrier, which I think is fair enough. Anyway, it?s in someone else?s hands now higher up than council level. Watch this space!

James ? no school street for Goodrich despite the assertion it would be shut off (permeable) at Dunstan?s. The other roads that attract complaints are normal sized roads away from schools (certainly not on which schools are actually situated), not narrowed to 2m which is what Goodrich is near to Dunstan?s. Result ? jams, aggro and large (8 wheel) lorries squeezing past a narrowed section that doesn?t appear on TomTom, etc. as such. It?s not realistic. Can you help?

Any crumbs, stale cake, fat from meat can be chopped and fed to the birds. Boil a kettle only with enough water for your needs. Bicarbonate of soda washed down the plughole with lemon juice then boiling water will clean your pipes. Lemon juice is good as a dishwasher rinse. Turn down your heating. Freeze leftovers. All are worthy of doing (and I do do them) and there lots more but to have a real impact, stop having more than one child, eat and consume less and drive less. It?s simple but not easy and most folk will prefer to ignore the difficult stuff.

possible congetsion charge extension
Nigello replied to Chrishesketh's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think it would be reasonable to charge most Freedom pass holders a small amount each year if the alternative is having no free pass. ?20-30? Those on pension credit or who have another marker for reduced means wouldn?t pay. Likewise, how about a ?10-15 charge for young people, waived if parents are in receipt of certain amount of benefits. It?d be better if it were not chargeable but times are harder than usual. -
Does covid mean everything must be plastic and paper in cafes?
Nigello replied to womanofdulwich's topic in The Lounge
Several months ago one cafe with outside seating (I?ve forgotten) told me there were no pots of tea because of the pandemic, so I didn?t buy. A teabag in a 250ml cup with no chance of a top up of hot water for ?2 didn?t seem appealing. It?s understandable right at the start of all this when people were even putting the mail in the microwave but not now. Takeaway, of course, needs paper cups but again, nobody is forcing anyone to buy. -
He?s fixer my dishwasher once and washer. The first time it was a trapped lemon pip so I was glad he told me about it, thereby stopping me from needing other call outs, and depriving him of cash. Very fair

Peckham Rye flood alleviation proposals
Nigello replied to AshbySE22's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Keep the rivet underground. Like it or not, a small minority of residents and visitors are actively hostile to beauty and nature, as can be witnessed with the litter and BBQ burning we have (the latter in summer only, granted). A made-to-resurface babbling brook sounds pretty (but a bit Marie Antoinette to me) though it?s bound to get abused. -
Where to take cardboard recycling?
Nigello replied to katezerooo's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You could ask neighbours to let you use theirs this once. Most people are happy to help and it?ll save you a drive. ♻️ etc. -
Tell us what constitutes such an approach. Most people can choose to use their car less. Most are not disabled or caring for disabled. People are selfish and need to be nudged, so these closings may be doing that. I?m in favour and want to see more, though not on parallel roads like is seen now.

'If I can do it, everyone else can' is a negligent position to take and one that should be challenged strongly in my view. It depends on the person who hears it. Person A will say ?Hmm. Maybe s/he?s right. Let me make a concerted effort to cut down on some, not all, journeys at least three days a week.? Person B will say ?How dare people conclude that I can be like those who?ve reduced their car journeys. I?m offended and will make no effort to cut down because I feel maligned and slighted (even though the poster has literally no idea who I am and vice versa).?

Dougie ? of course it?s a fact. It?s self evident they?ve chosen to drive. Nobody forced them. They chose. The alternatives may be less convenient but they still chose to do it. It?s really simple ? if we want less traffic then everyone must reduce their use of motor vehicles. People don?t like this fact so they invent distractions and whatabouts. Drive less and use fewer services that use motor vehicles and traffic will reduce... Give it a go!

Rockets ? no, I don?t use Amazon, etc. and never have delivery food or Ocado, etc. I don?t take taxis or Uber. Utilities don?t need to come here and most deliveries (95%, I?d say) are brought by my pedestrian postman. It?s called putting your money where your mouth is. Give it a try, and encourage others.

safest masks to protect ourselves against covid??
Nigello replied to TwinkleToes's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Masks help and they also give a sense of solidarity etc. If you?re on a bus or train, or in a car with people unknown to you or not in your bubble, open the windows. Fresh (even the kind we get here) air helps dilute the concentration of aerosols and other particles in the air. Too many buses are rolling around all tightly sealed. Do your bit! -
House Renovation and Barriers in Road
Nigello replied to Tipsyleprachauns's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just remove the barriers and place at the side of their wall as safely as possible. -
They?ve not been put in illegally. They?ve actually been put in thanks to a law. It?s argued the council didn?t advise residents or solicit opinion, either at all or not enough. That?s a procedural matter and one I think any legal adjudged may either not be concerned about or think that such a matter is less important than the measures put in place according to the powers Southwark has.

They will never put a CPZ there. There?s no need because people don?t park there to be near a station. PR is at least a 25? walk away, ED and HOP about 20, the latter uphill part of the way and none reached speedily and easily by bus from this actual location. School traffic is heavy though many pupils do walk and a few cycle.
