Fake news? I get that governments do lie or dissemble on occasions but I don?t see how come ours or Spain?s would make up or suppress the number of people diagnosed with Covid. It?s a pandemic that will chop and change in spite of our attempts to contain it so expect more figures that may then look ?dodgy? a while later and don?t put it down to conspiracy.

People complained at dithering and at announcing measures three days or more before implementing them and they complain when swift action is taken. Layering one?s political views on top don?t make the situation any easier to deal with.

Dulwich library - is it open? If not, when will it?!
Nigello replied to localyocal's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes ? I?m wondering whether the charges and fines will now be imposed because we have the option of returning to other branches. -
I think Victoria will be seen as too similar to Jane Garvey. Both are of a similar age and both have that 5Live style which is expected, given both worked there. I?d go for Liz Green or another regional host but I think the BBC will think it?s best to go young and/or ethnic minority. It?s a good programme but tilts too far to affluent/academic in its content these days. You and Yours is more entertaining, useful, friendly and eye-opening and has a largely female presentation team.

Dulwich and Camberwell pools are not opening. Neither is the Forest Hill pool. All three websites have a blurb saying they?re getting ready to reopen. Poor show ? they?ve had four months to prepare for a reopening. It?s difficult, I know, but other pools in other towns are managing it.

Masks are ok, they do help somewhat, I think. What also helps is keeping one?s distance, not like the good parents of Goodrich who meet and chat at very close quarters of a morning, mask- and worry-free! Don?t hang around in shops, go early or late to avoid any crush and just think that everyone around you could be symptom-free but still infective.

I just saw several overflowing bins and piles of litter in PRP, the bit nearer to Colyton. I picked up and threw away some items from Colyton Road but left the park rubbish as I was with a friend who was walking a dog. It?s just not going to disappear as a problem. I?ll ask the council to double up the bins and pick up bits when alone. Not much else one can do.

Tessa Jowell centre - blood tests
Nigello replied to mancity68's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I?m pleased if it?s fixed. I?m also surprised because I?ve noticed plenty of abandoned projects and unfixed problems across a range of council or government-run bodies. Have a look at your local street/station/hospital/park/bus stop and report anything that?s not working. You?ve got a keen eye for detail and righting wrongs, after all! -
Tessa Jowell centre - blood tests

> The screens that call the ticket numbers don't > work, so you have to listen carefully for your > ticket to be called. That was a quick breakdown of equipment! How disappointing but not unexpected. There?s nobody who?ll take control so it?ll take ages to fix. The same is seen at Tube stations where neon tubes lighting up the name of the station fail and are not replaced, because the staff don?t feel it?s any of their responsibility. -
Re the pretty vs ugly road blockers ? I agree that those who made the decision thought ?DV and Melbourne G are pretty so need pretty road blockers?. I don?t think they actively thought ?Rye Lane isn?t pretty so doesn?t need pretty road blockers? but that something more unconscious was going on. To be fair, Rye Lane isn?t pretty and I?d prefer it if the council used this time to prettify it so that this obvious bias against it by planners wouldn?t be manifested.

Lots of streets have been repaved recently, most of them home to standard Victorian houses/half house terraces, of which a fair proportion are flats and not full houses. The laying is continuing so I think the council is committed to repaving a lot of this area.

Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
Nigello replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Where?s the pavement being widened? -
Asking anyone to wear a mask all day is requesting a lot. I?d be happy with visors or plastic screens at the till and/or counter. Petitions can be officious so why not approach the businesses yourself, explaining you want to support them and think this suggestion would help staff and customers? It would be more human and less likely to make business owners feel as if people are piling on.

Is there tingling in the foot, calf, thigh? If so, it?s likely to be a pinched nerve caused by a bulging disc or skeletal problem.

Good news for the economy/pigeons/foxes but not great for those who like to see little-free streets. Chicken boxes and soft-drink containers make up a sizeable bit of the litter I see (and sometimes pick up, if it?s safe to do so) and the combo of kids and fast food will likely make litter more visible. (Yes, most kids are not litter louts but some are and having a new fast-food outlet open will mean more rubbish on the streets.) Once again, the poorly paid street cleaner will be having to work harder for no extra money because I doubt the vendor will set up litter patrols within, say, a fifty yard radius.

Rye lane walk & cycle only from 6/7
Nigello replied to rollflick's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I don?t think it will add to the ?pleasure? of using the Lane. No traffic at all, including buses, will add to the Ponderosa feel the Lane has, especially as you head south past the station. Let?s face it, it is not well loved or well maintained and the absence of familiar things like London buses (which are a public good, not a private luxury) won?t help out. I have seen the hard work of the litter pickers and graffiti removers whose efforts are not repaid by the incessant litter droppers and vandals. (Some of the artwork is really good, like when shutters are painted, and I would love to see more of this.) -
Is it a trapped nerve/bulging disc or a muscular problem? Put ice on it for ten minutes, then heat. Take ibuprofen and paracetamol. Move as much as you can and seek out a physio. Look online for your specific pain and see whether there are exercises to suit. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmTe0LsfEbpkDpgrxKAWbRA are good, if a little bit corny. Good luck!

Print them out and stick on the bins. I?ve no printer so can?t. If I did, I would.
-
Yes - writing to the councillor would be a first step, and/or DIY. Direct action (like picking up litter) is needed.
-
https://www.writetothem.com/ Contact your councillors and MP asking for more bins. Also, consider in the meantime picking up a few pieces and throwing them away properly. I do it and I?ve seen others so you won?t look majorly daft!

Is there space in the schoolyard to allow staff to park, as this would offset the spaces taken away due to the new plans? I bet there?s room for three or four.
-
Knock on the door and politely point out the bush is restricting passage, needed more than ever in pandemic times, and ask them to cut back. Nobody needs to have a hedge or branches fo their tree hanging into public space, it?s just they CBA to think of anyone else (though would likely be ashamed if they caused problems for elderly, blind, disabled, parents with young kids, etc.)

drewd- It was clean because I picked up most of the litter at 0730! I?m not asking for thanks just that others do the same - just one piece a day is good, in parks or just on the road, as is complaining to the council via councillors. I asked for two bins where there is currently one. Simple, especially when one miraculously appeared not but 20 from two others on Goodrich Rd meaning we have three in about 100 feet!
