  1. I agree with the need to luxe-up buses and trains just a little - air con is a must. Some buses feel ok - the 63 has cool air that blows down on you if you sit on the lower deck - but lots of others are barbarically hot.
  2. In the space of three minutes this morning I saw/heard three “jacked” Lime e-bikes, all ridden (on the pavement, natürlich) by males in their teens. Two other bikes had been left in the centre of footpaths. Others were strewn across kerbs into the gutter.
  3. Yeah, and they also cycle on the pavement from the gates down to Gail’s - which isn’t a shared space - blithely criss-crossing with pedestrians and dogs
  4. Stop! You are simply NOT ALLOWED to draw attention to such illegality by cyclists here on the EDF and if you do you’ll be labelled an evil cyclophobe who invents slurs to malign the always-lovely members of the pedalling community.
  5. A jay came back to a suet ball feeds after a year’s absence last night.
  6. It’s not on the Rye, it’s in the park and the differences between the two are relevant. I don’t think it’s just or reasonable for a big part of the park - which is not the wide open space of the Rye - to be out of bounds (and likely to suffer damage) for such a long period of time.
  7. I got a big delivery of circulars, magazines, postcards etc. today - a Bank Holiday. The postie said there is a big backlog and that it is worse in Bromley - his usual beat. He said Sunday/holiday deliveries are pretty usual now.
  8. A bloke in the Tesco local was mugged (by two males) at the cash point there on Saturday afternoon, according to two staff members. Maybe the festival enticed chancer crims, maybe not…
  9. You can hear it much farther away - the Dulwich end of Barry Rd (at least when I passed there around 5pm F).
  10. Whether or not you have or don’t have the physical ability to skirt an e-cycle left on the pavement, such obstacles and obstructions derive from nothing but selfishness, truculence, inconsiderateness etc. and as such make all our lives that little bit more uncomfortable.
  11. I don’t loathe them. I said “sometimes” which softens the blow because it suggests at other times there is no such illegality. My points are factual and based on real-life witnessing of such events on a daily basis. Cyclists who ride responsibly are to be applauded. Those who don’t are not.
  12. It’s not progressive and is definitely offensive to leave large and heavy objects in the middle of footpaths.
  13. The “cycle community” is sometimes not community-minded, as can be seen by its members riding through those dinky bike-shaped red lights at the LTN junction and on the pavements in the Village, perhaps thinking because they have a nice panier or expensive cycling hardware they’re allowed to.
  14. I don’t buy this - the school is already situated next to acres of open grassland and trees, much more likely sources of pollen but there’s no plan to raze all the greenery. So, a few square yards of grass in front of a school whose windows don’t seem to ever be open is highly unlikely to make it a sneeze fest for the school’s pupils or teachers. (PS I have hay fever and still prefer a theoretical chance of a moment or two’s unpleasantness to destroying flora and fauna *by the council which we pay for*.)
  15. It’s sad to see (at least) two patches of long grass, wildflowers (and all the small creatures within) being all but destroyed at that hands of the council. A lovely patch on Upland, next to the end of a row of social housing and the much larger area of grass outside the boys’ secondary school on Peckham Rye. If anyone knows the best department at the council to contact please let me know.
  16. I just had a mid-morning Sunday delivery. It was two magazines and several postcards which makes me think it was a “backlog” delivery of items deemed less important than most other forms of mail. At least effort is being made to clear the glut.
  17. Please do report it. It helps the police build up a case/report.
  18. The article also refers to other ways in which councils use public spaces such as parks to raise money for services, which is relevant to this thread.
  19. Thing is, Poundland does accept it and has for ages but this branch has an ongoing IT problem, it seems. I had no other card and no cash the first time I went.
  20. https://amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/apr/19/tough-mudder-finsbury-park-damage-green-spaces N London lament over council’s allowing of park to be used for events similar to the one being discussed on this forum
  21. The place wouldn’t take Amex due to “a problem” twice last week. Nobody had a clue as to when Amex would be accepted again. Shelves were oddly empty but only a few of them. It’s clean, bright and not crowded and I got what I’d gone in for (and a few things I’d not had on my list). 7.5/10
  22. Same is about to happen on Dunstan’s, from Goodrich to Mt Adon Park. Expect lots of disgruntled, likely obstreperous, driving-kiddies-to-school-and-back parents….
  23. Nonsense - police explaining the dangers of running red lights to the cyclist and others seems a rare bit of useful public service from officers these days. Cyclists without lights/helmets/bells/hi-viz/running reds/on pavement abound and it’s dangerous and selfish of them.
  24. 2 x small fish (2”) in River Peck just at the bridge where the parkies’ office is, around 08:30, fighting the current very impressively. Sticklebacks or something else?
  25. Increasing dairy, fish, poultry and meat (and certain non-animal foods) is said to be a quick way of pushing up B12 levels. (NHS) If you’ve been lacking in such kinds of foodstuffs it could well be the cause of a deficiency - doctors etc. tend to look for the most rational/common reasons first and then go down less usual routes to find the reason for conditions.
