  1. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/jan/23/new-fountains-and-bottle-refill-points-to-tackle-londons-plastic-waste Are there any working fountains in SE22/21/15? If not working, are there ones that have fallen into disrepair. Once I know I can see about trying to get them working again or having new ones installed. Bin the (plastic) bottle!
  2. "Cider vinegar" was its usual name before Instagram made us all Amurcan... Anyway, on topic, I would suggest as much sleep as you can as well as lots of hand washing and a daily vitamin and iron supplement to stay (physically) well, which has to help you stay mentally well at least to an extent. Walking and doing "just enough" rather than haring around will help.
  3. Laying down what?
  4. Socrates (and others), you can always ring 020 7525 2000 to report it.
  5. (stuff like fly tipping, bins, pavements.....stuff you contact the council about and they ignore) I don't think is fair. The Southwark line has always responded to calls about flytipping and overflowing bins in my experience. Also, councillors Hamvas and Barber are often on here and respond to people's concerns.
  6. I agree that the coffee bar is way too big. Safety is more important than getting a coffee of a morning. The two can go hand in hand, if the shop were made smaller.
  7. I don't think litter and sink holes are trivial, nor bike sheds.
  8. It really depends on where you start. If you are nearer to Townley, get the 37 to Brixton and then you are laughing. Also, it depends on the time of day. Rush hour will slow your trip to a train or tube considerably. Denmark Hill or Peckham Rye to Victoria then the Victoria line would be best, but watch out for rush hour temporary closures when it gets really busy. (I think Denmark H has more services to Victoria per hour than PR.) If you are near to F Hill, isn't there a service to Victoria as well?
  9. sabrina79 - If you don't like it - don't go, why return somewhere that frustrates you when you know there is an 'excellent' alternative? I would say - carry on going and carry on complaining to get it fixed. Glad you weren't at Churchill's side in 1939......!
  10. The local vendors of trees ought to think about offering to collect them the first week after Christmas. It would be easy to take a mobile No from all buyers and then mass text, asking them to leave their tree out on a particular day - only one choice so it stays simple - by returning their full address. The ones who sell and make money for the hospice seem particularly community minded, so if they are reading this - what say? It'd be a nice gesture and would add to their reputation as being thoughtful of the local area.
  11. If a tree is on the pavement outside a house but the brown bin to that property is inside the garden/yard, chuck it back over.
  12. The part of Dunstan's from Goodrich up to the fork with Upland has loads of bins on the road. Most the gardens have space for them, but they simply CBA to put them back in. Lord knows what it must be like for young children and parents/carers of them of a morning and afternoon at school times. I agree that it looks naff and will attract more dumping (even, er, the kind from our canine friends....)
  13. But by "out" you mean "out of the house" not "out on the pavement" unless you are one of those few people who have to have the bins on the street because the garden slopes. There are a few selfish types who have acres of space in their yards/gardens but leave their bins out because they CBA to bring them in, so they think that because the bins are there then the tree ought to be there too. It's a drag for those with kids, pets on leads, or who are less strong of sight or body so, if you have a bin/tree out on the footpath and you know they shouldn't be there, do something about it please.
  14. Yes - but by the bin really ought to mean what it says. If you are keeping your bin on the pavement when you have room in the garden/yard, then double-bad on you! (NB "You" = "one".)
  15. There are a fair few mid-to-large trees outside houses around here, left by inconsiderate people. It's really easy to trip over them, especially when it's dark (most of the time right now) or if you have children/pets, let alone if you are disabled in any way. Be nice when you're being green!
  16. The bin near the bus stand/church at the LL end of Barry Road has disappeared - it should be brought back because it's a place of heavy footfall, especially children.
  17. That is disgusting. I won't be eating there again - ever. Vote with your feet, folks!
  18. Maybe it could work better as an online business, or as a mobile unit going to different venues each week. I hope it does well under some other guise.
  19. I am, on the whole, in favour. More houses/flats/studios means more competition which should mean lower prices, in theory. Peckham is not an idyllic suburb as it once was many moons ago and it's attracting a young, adventurous and urban-minded crowd, at least in and around the station. I'd prefer the development to have social housing but even if it doesn't it will mean there is more choice and therefore less pressure on the existing housing stock.

    Happy Christmas

JohnL - Sorry to hear you were abused. Please report it and CC your MP/local councillor. It is a valid and effective way of making your voice heard. Tell the managers at the WH about this thread as well. Happy 2018!
  21. I saw a wren in a hedge on Friern Road, library-end. Are they rare around here?
  22. We also live in a world in which more and more people are unconnected with important values such as civility and respect for others and in which solipsism and selfishness is more apparent. (This does not mean that all women who breastfeed at all times are selfish: I shouldn't have to spell that out but nuance is less and less recognised, even on the EDF.)
  23. Feeding noises, smells, crying can all be annoying, whether you like to admit it or not. Not being able to say so because it has been deemed that all breast feeding at all times in all situations must be allowed and welcomed is unrealistic and unfair. Absolutism in small, public spaces is not a good idea for anyone. Consideration of others has to come into it, even if it is not the main part of the equation. That's how we all rub along together, or at least that is the theory....
  24. So, yes, others can indeed lump it. Gracious, no? I am against anyone not being able to feed their baby when in it is necessary (for the baby, not the mother) but I am also against anyone who feels uncomfortable because of proximity, noise, smell, etc. not being able to politely say so lest they get a condescending backlash that this kind of unaccommodating and uncivil comment would seem to represent.
  25. Is it only "half a job" because the strip of land nearest to the shops has not been repaved? If so, that is not the fault of the council; I believe this strip belongs to the shops and so their owners have the right to say what happens to it. (I know it is a pain, but that seems to be the law, if I am correct.) Otherwise, back on track, I still think the general level of Xmas deco by individual shops hovers around 6/10. It could be a lot more inventive and alluring but only the shops themselves - individually or together - can change that.
