  1. I wrote to Caroline Pidgeon, asking her what GLA is doing about idling cars. It was tabled on 7/11 and there has been no reply to me, probably because there has been no reply to the question itself. She told me I would get one eventually.
  2. If you see a blue, council bag on the road near a litter bin, put it on top. Thta way, the foxes will be less likely to rip it open. It is meant to be done by the council cleaners and generally they do it, but sometimes don't!
  3. I read that CoOp may take over Costcutter, which would mean that the small shop (whose shutters are increasingly full of tagging that it refuses to take off or ask the council to do so) so that would mean two branches within yards of each other. FHR could be nicer if the pavements were sorted out and that BT phone box removed. It is generally OK so I hope the shops trying hard to make it better can get some support.
  4. There is also - supposedly - road work at Denmark Hill, travelling north from ED station. I saw one lane cordoned off with cones this morning but no suggestion of any hole. I agree, it is a drag.
  5. I saw one in PRP, on the lake island, at least five years ago. Never seen one there - or anywhere else - since.

  9. English person's view of N. Ireland Would this be different from a Welsh or Scottish view? The UK is not just England...
  10. If you have an Amex card, try using it to get Network tickets. Each show has at least one ticket available, even when it said "sold out", at least from my reckoning.
  11. I saw that some of them were ending at Aldwych. Is that going to be a more usual thing, I wonder? Heating is OK but if it is switched on at the factory and the driver CBA to switch it off once the day warms up it can be unpleasant. Glad they're here but I have to say I much prefer to walk as much as I can, especially as most people don't seem to be able to grasp the need to "move down inside" let alone go upstairs.

  14. one of the firemen said that she would be OK. I must admit I was surprised by the amount of emergency vehicles that attended. Three fire engines two police cars three ambulances and the air ambulance. I am so happy that we have the funding to allow such a comprehensive response. Imagine if we had to put up with a situation in which money was scarce and it was even wasted....
  15. The only real way to improve it is to reduce trips in cars and vans. The only people who can do that is you.
  16. Alex_b I'm not in a that ward but I've tried - in vain - to contact councillors so I share your frustration and disdain.
  17. Any dangerous behaviour by a cyclist, driver, pedestrian, motorbike rider or passenger ought to be criticised so as to bring about a general improvement. Walking and texting can be criticised without making the criticiser "anti pedestrian".
  18. It's good to know - thanks. Please tell the police so they can add it to other information or begin a new file.
  19. Doors of chilled food cabinets are nearly always open, wasting energy and possibly putting the food at risk of spoiling. I've been told that sometimes staff don't unlock them after stacking the cabinets, leaving the cold air to escape. That aside, I like the size of the store and the fact it has a good outreach campaign alongside its loyalty scheme.
  20. That's possible, perhaps even likely. If hulking statues can be taken down, even destroyed because of a change in the way that person is viewed then the permanent erasing/archiving of celluloid and videotape is easily achieved.
  21. it's a ten min walk to PR station, which feels like ages in London-commute time! ? Have you been living on top of a Tube station? SE London transport is not great, so be patient, or you will let it get to you and cheese you off. Walk, bus, Overground, normal train, taxi - all will somehow conspire against you over time!
  22. Let the police know in case it tallies with any attacks or menaces. Ring 101, though you may have to hang on the line for a bit.
  23. Big rat (10" more, nose-to-tail) in the community garden at P Rye Park on Saturday - rather s/he be there than around houses.
