  1. Maybe neighbours could offer to let those with lots of cardboard to use their blue bins? I offer to my neighbours and they sometimes use it, if there is room. I agree that Dunstans Road looks messy because of the lack of space (soemetimes) in front yards/gardens for bins so any extra refuse would make it look worse.
  2. If you were a "regular reader" you may understand better that it is likely to be self-mockery, I think....!
  3. The word "tree" has been sprayed on the pavement on the Upland/Goodrich junction. I hope one gets put there soon. If anyone knows anything more, let us know. Ta
  4. I think the bench at the old CoOp chemist's on LL has gone. Perhaps I mis-saw but it seemed that way.
  5. If it raises money and encourages library use, that's good, but if the inevitable spills and littering are not seen to then it won't be worthwhile.
  6. The bridge over the Peck near to Colyton Road has been cordoned off for ages. Likewise, the area near the Japanese garden has been similarly, ahem, "worked on" for at least six weeks. It's never been a fast-flowing stretch of water. I think they are trying to do something with it; there's a poster in one of the notice boards.
  7. I found an Oyster card on Goodrich Road about a week ago. PM if you think it is yours.
  8. I wss referring to the litter looking aged which suggests that it had been hidden by leaves or not picked up for a long time.
  9. Goodrich, or at least the bits over Barry Road and away from LL, have been cleared of dead leaves. Dunstans tends to be more litter-strewn and some of it looks very aged!

  11. It would be great if the contractors could remove the warning signs rather than dump them over the railings and in Goose Green itself. (Perhaps they will once the whole works have finished)
  12. Rubbish bins often disappear, more likely than not to reappear, like the one at the corner of Goodrich and CPR which is especially useful as it is on the route to three schools! I pick up cans and bottles, usually about eight or ten a day, just walking around. Give it a go (but wash your hands afterwards, just in case!)
  13. Steaks and fizz (maybe even champagne) into a big Sainsbo's bag at M and S on LL. I saw it, decided to not intervene but tell the nearest member of staff, by which time the alarm had gone off. An M and S staff member told me that someone sitting outside has been known to ring the perpetrator to tell them when the coast is clearest.
  14. It starts and finishes at Nigel Road because, I think, the roadworks at the library end of Barry Rd prevent them from turning around. FYI, Upland Road bus stop going to FH is closed (although one bus driver stopped yesterday and said it wasn't closed).
  15. Stoves have to accord to strict standards. Fuel (like that wood you buy at petrol stations) doesn't have to, I believe. Miscanthus logs (Terravesta) are great and produce very little smoke indeed and are drier than even kiln-dried logs. Tighten up the rules on the fuel, I'd say, and have a hotline for current offenders (or just have a polite word).
  16. I'd prefer at least one permanently staffed check-out counter. About 2/3 of the time I always have to be helped because my bag is not in the right place, etc. Today, an elderly person didn't know how to use the self-service till. One till was opened eventually because the Q grew. It's OK, not great; I'm more excited about the library....
  17. http://www.railtechnologymagazine.com/Rail-News/tfl-reveals-ultramodern-london-overground-trains- The main difference to the eye is that the sides feature more black paint than older trains and the moquette has green in it and the handrails are a deeper orange than usual (though the ginger colour features on the outside of the train). It's a bit disappointing that the interior design has to change so soon after launch but at least we're getting new trains. (The article says something about the Gospel Oak line but I saw this train on the Crystal Palace route today.)
  18. There is the stop for the 12.197.63, 363 on Peckham Rye just after Barry Rd, then another at The Gardens about 200 feet away. Surely this should be taken out of service. Likewise, the one just before Dog Kennel Hill on the way into East Dulwich from Denmark Hill. (I am a bus fan so am just wanting to be reasonable to improve the service.)
  19. An express/limited stop 176 would be good. I asked the GLA transport bod about this but was told it wasn't an option. Walking is often just a little bit slower than the bus. Journeys could be made faster if people went upstairs or sat in all the seats but some people don't like to do sensible things like that... Drivers are much maligned and ought to be paid more. A few are right gits but most are good and respond to a greeting.
  20. Bad design, indifferent cyclists (sometimes), unaware pedestrians makes for accidents. It ought to be redesigned and "policed" once redone.

  23. I was told by the woman working on the move that the new library will be bigger than the old one and there will be new fixtures and fittings. She said the move should be pretty easy because all they have to move is the books/CDs, etc.
  24. For about ninety seconds the length of LL (viewed from the new school/old police station, up and down) was empty of moving traffic. There was not a bus, moped, cyclist, car or van. Barry Road was similarly quiet about ten minutes later (1625, or thereabouts). It must be to do with the fact that schools are on holiday. It really reminded me of how traffic would often disappear even on busy roads for a few minutes way back when.
