  2. This is sad news. The stall holders were enthusiastic, friendly and savvy. One cake maker (whose brownies were delicious) was especially positive and had just started her business that week. The organisers, who also had the hot drinks stand, I think, were very welcoming and positive. I hope they all come back and don't feel too bruised from this experience.
  3. Yes, that's possible. How come it was moving away from the pond? Do they go a-wandering often, frogs? Is there a boggy area on the Hill?
  4. Last night whilst taking a walk in the drizzle I saw a frog hopping from the gutter onto the pavement at Dawson's Hill, near to the junction with Upland Road. It was odd to see it there because I do not know of any pond or marsh near there. Can anyone offer any ideas as to how it got to Dunstan's Road? Thanks much
  5. It was great last week, despite the heavy rain and chilly weather. This week (Saturday) a sign said it had been postponed till further notice, just one week after it had opened. I hope it comes back soon.
  6. I think I just heard it! Is it on the school side of Dunstans or across the crossroads going to Underhill?
  7. I have fond that Google Maps does not include all options (such as Overground/Ginger) and that TfL does not include BR journeys (which I suppose is correct as BR is not part of TfL).
  8. Glad to see this and I wish it well but would hope that the signage is just temporary. The design is great but it doesn't fit over the old restaurant's sign and the other one has been tied onto another old sign.
  9. Ah, feel free to delete, eds.
  10. ... a fish/chip restaurant, licensed and should be open by the end of October.
  11. Please PM with your details of the loss.
  12. A replacement bank card has not arrived but the PIN did. Post arrives at odd times of the day. Is this the new normal?
  13. I admire your confidence but some of the fantastic murals (the one near the EDT; the one on the side of the William Hill: the one on Goodrich Road) have all been vandalised by thoughtless "taggers". The works need to be protected with a varnish. Just look at the lovely one near to Goose Green playground, which was touched up to cover over tagging and then got tagged again if you need more proof that all "taggers" don't respect art.
  14. Such a shame that happened. Could you coat it with a special varnish that would make it easier to take the scrawl off?
  15. ...a window frame specialist shop, just like the new one three doors down (on Forest Hill Road)!
  16. only by Costa, Nando's - The problem with this statement is that it takes responsibility for such monoculture away from the consumer. ?2.+ coffee and factory-farmed/sometimes-ritually-slaughtered chicken are what people want, it seems, including those who bemoan the state of the high street (and animal welfare). If people didn't want (or, more likely, if they were willing to face up to the realities of) such purchases the high street would be different.
  17. Shop or no shop, we can all cut down on packaging and waste: own cups to coffee shops, buying in bulk/concentrated liquids, etc, not buying stuff we do not need in the first place.
  18. Hardly any work done at Whateley - just the theatre of construction: big signs; barriers; heavy machinery. Does Conway do several jobs at once - same workers on both but at different parts of the day or what?
  19. Why are you not as equally bothered by women telling other women what women are? To be logical in your outrage ou really ought to say you are bothered that a human is telling another human what to be. What about a woman changing to be a man, thereby escaping at least some of the difficulties women face? Does that person deserve less respect and concern because they are now becoming part of the "oppressors"?
  20. Karavan sells bamboo lunch boxes with an elasticated band (which, to be fair, loses its tautness over time). Pret give you 50p off your hot drink if you use your own cup/mug, so that makes it 49p! I think, though, that a tax on single-use plastics or plastic-based products alongside a deposit scheme is needed to really change things.
  21. If they really posh it up, it would not be in keeping with the rest of Rye Lane. - Talk about race to the bottom/lowest common denominator. Being grubby is not "cool" (whatever that really means; I don't know so don't use the word), despite what umpteen style columnists will tell you at the drop of a snap-back cap. If you need to get your "cool-kicks" by walking past rotted apples, urine-stained walls and homeless people, then you ought to rethink your values. I don't want "posh", just a reasonable amount of cleanliness, safety and regard for the taxpayer.
  22. https://store.terravesta.com/ This stuff is very energy efficient and has free delivery right now.

  24. Bad driving is not to be endorsed but being a less-than-clued-up pedestrian is also a problem. It is really hard to see people when it is dark and when you add text-walking or just being stupid - like walking across a road without any checking - then driving is made less easy. (I am a pedestrian with no car.)
