  1. The police can do something - even if it is only to add it to our build up a database. It is great that you reported it. Would a more detailed description help?
  2. Did you not think to stop them and ask them what they were doing and letting them know that it could be mistaken for something potentially criminal? A warning is good, but you really ought to have done something to show them they have been noticed.
  3. The former newsagent's opposite the KwikFit is to be a nail parlour, according to the person working there. He nodded to the other nail parlour a few doors down but I did not know whether he meant that one would be moving to the new premises or just that it was going to be a separate one. Also, the new shop next to the Polish shop near to Sainsbury's is going to be what?
  4. The Sainsbury's near The Plough has a vacant shop next to it, in turn next to the Polish shop. Anyone got an idea as to what it will be?
  5. Why not look at the US Mail's website to find out how they'd do it, and cross ref with Royal Mail? Or ask the framer (or any framer nearby) how s/he would do it. Good luck.
  6. More affluent customers who may be willing/able to afford more?
  7. So, if there are too many people for a certain footprint, what do we do? Would J/B, Uncleglen B like to see inward migration to London - from the rest of the UK or elsewhere - curtailed? Or should taxes be raised to ensure everyone gets a place at the school or an appointment at the dentist or a library book they really want to use for study?
  8. If high-rises are built to much better safety standards and have decent-sized rooms, then I think they should be built. We have little space and lots (too many?) of people. You do the maths, as that annoying phrase goes...
  9. Does not the post office this? I got some things certified a year or so ago but I cannot remember which kinds of forms, certificttes etc they are allowed to copy.
  10. Mind at Goose Green always had a clothes bin outside but is it still there after its revamp? On another note, animal charities may take certain textiles so you could always ring them.
  11. I sympathise and would say, although you may find it hard, you must be assertive because you are are the one who is being badly treated: don't feel bad for complaining or you will be already "fighting" with one arm tied behind your back. Let them know that you are your child are being badly affected by the noise and say you are being reasonable when you ask that they do something about it. Remind them they are living in a crowded city with limited personal space and that it is fair that they act accordingly. After that, record them on your phone and note down when it happens and approach your local councillor for help. Doing something about it will help you feel that you are doing your best to control the situation. Good luck.
  12. An estate police car just sat outside Goodrich School, nobody in it, with its engine idling for at least 25 minutes. When the officers came back from wherever they'd been I asked why they'd left it like that. The reply was that it was because the computers on board needed the engine to be running. I said it had seemed like a waste of energy and a source of unwanted pollution and he just repeated - neutrally and politely - that it was a requirement.
  13. Just now, on the very narrow patch of green near to the Tesco/Banh Banh etc., I noticed that the room-sized patch of wildgrass/flowers has been mown away! I thought these little pockets were purposely left to grow wilder. Maybe the mower got carried away? The other patches, in the park itself, remain.
  14. Sue, Perhaps take a daily antihistamine - a generic one from Boots or CoOp will do the trick at 1/4 the price of a branded version. Also, use vaseline or a menthol version to line your nose: it'll help you breathe and trap particles, though it can't work miracles. Wash your pillowcases and undersheets often and even vacuum your mattress! Breathe easy (and continue to ask the selfish idlers to turn their engines off)!
  15. Swallow
  16. That will line up with the answer to the question of how many people fancy paying their cleaner 13-14 an hour instead of 10? Indeed. Let's have a straw poll. Me - No (because I don't have, nor never have had, a cleaner). Over to you!
  17. The thing I take from this is that most people agree that everyone should pay tax. So, how many people will stop paying their dog-walker/cleaner/window cleaner/mobile beautician** in cash and demand a receipt? **Not all of these kind of workers are by default tax defrauders.
  18. With the advent of smartphones it should be very easy for everyone - even your cleaner - to be able to charge a fairer/more expensive price so as to accommodate taxes (and use another app to process the payments and NI and tax, etc).
  19. Where The Streets Have No Name? Oh, you said Woodwarde Road...
  20. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-40561807 Agree?
  21. Police
  22. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/jul/05/virgin-trains-advance-tickets-rail-fares You can now buy advance-perchace tickets up to ten minutes before your chosen journey.
  23. Heathers and lavenders are tough plants and will attract bees and butterflies, etc. Hang a basket or three with a tradescantia and/or spider plant. (Karavan has lovely macrame ones, holding one or two pots.) Ivies are fast growers. A hydrangea - climbing variety, like petiolaris - could work along a wall.
