No bats, alas, but resurgence of robins and tits/blue tits

https://www.selondoner.co.uk/news A two-second search came up with this.

I was booked in to TJC by DMC tor a Covid jab today (Sat.) but on arrival was told TJC was not offering this service today and that it was only the Lister Centre doing C jabs. Two other people (one elderly) were in the same boat. I have an email address of the head of the service so will complain. Anyone else experienced this cockup?

Annoying words that have cropped up in our language

I hope so. Far too many landlords/owners of businesses in and around here pull down the shutters and give no hoots about the ugly frontages they leave for the rest of us to see. Most of Southwark is blighted with this problem - all the shops on Rye Lane and most on Old/New Kent Roads are covered in scrawl.

One of the planters on Derwent near to the main road junction has been moved and damaged. The road is no longer blocked.

Has Southwark council stopped free dog poo bags?
Nigello replied to Soylent Green's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sheesh! If you can afford a dog you can afford a quid every other week for 40 dog-do bags. Better still, re-use other kinds of bags (like freezer bags, etc.) you have already. -
Muggings by Charter School pupils on East Dulwich Grove
Nigello replied to Adam's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
“It’s not inconceivable” doesn’t mean “it doesn’t need reporting because all of us will have already conceived of it”. Is it so unremarkable and unimportant that children should be mugging other children to the extent that it not be reported on a local forum? -
Muggings by Charter School pupils on East Dulwich Grove
Nigello replied to Adam's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Why? What’s up with it? Keep it open unless it’s known for a fact it’s a lie. Just because something is unpalatable - kids mugging other kids is definitely that - it doesn’t mean it ought not to be aired. -
Cats get used to crapping in a certain place. They’re often without collars and bells. I can see why she’s cheesed off but I think her solution is wrong. Just because you love cats you should not underestimate the annoyance of cat poo and injured/dead birds caused by wandering moggies with no bells on their collars. If you have a cat and it’s not got a bell then please put one on it!

How can one be sure that particulates/tyre particles don’t mostly/somewhat/always/never come from miles or even many miles away? My point is that if the main culprit is not mostly vehicles inside ULEZ then what would be a valid reason for its introduction in said zone? Is it accurate to say X people die because Y number of vehicles are driven in Z zone? The Boris buses were taken in to have sliding windows installed after complaints when they’d just been rolled out. It didn’t work as well as it could have. A big opening at the front of both decks would help push air through. Same problem on other models - no opening windows for a good portion of the front of top and bottom decjs.

Send the video to the link I posted above and also to your councillor and MP. It’s the only way we trip-fodder can do anything constructive.

It’s gladdening to see at least one person has pulled them up on this. And why not just remove the flyers? The council never takes them down even after the date by which you’re supposed to object or approve has long passed.

It was a suggestion not a fiat. Swathes of the Village and adjacent areas have no buses - the P4 is welcome, of course. Buses even smaller than the ones on the P13 route could provide a nimble and helpful addition. If the road is in effect a very long and pretty wide culdesac it ought to be opened up for public transport use while still respecting the fact it is a suburban area.

This curren bus upset/diversion has reinforced my fondness for the P13 and made me wonder whether opening up the Court Lane three-way LTN to small buses like this service help get things back on track, to use a metaphor from a different type of transport. Court Lane is wide, most houses have gardens out front to distance inhabitants from what would only be momentary engine noise and it’s ripe for actual use and being of service to the community. A small bus from Rye Lane to H Hill every fifteen minutes would help, don’t you think?

Knock on the door and find out, just like I did!

Only the P13 on LL around 3pm today.

Queen Mary stopped off there once. She was on her way to see the rhododendrons in Dulwich Park (which she did annually, according to what I’ve read) and asked her driver to stop so she could speak to the owner.

ULEZ expansion ruled lawful by High Court
Nigello replied to megalaki84's topic in Roads & Transport
How much pollution etc. blows in from outside any given area, in this case, ULEZ? How correct is it to say that X numbers of deaths or cases of illness could be avoided by expanding ULEZ? I think headlines are there to grab attention but not necessarily to inform fully (in general, not for anything specific). -
I get a lot of window-envelope and postcards delivered at once which makes me think the individual postie or individual manager or the general management have decided on such a system to avoid a daily delivery. I will investigate. (I can’t believe I get seven postcards and two magazines one day as a normal occurrence.)

School Street for St Anthony's in Etherow Street.
Nigello replied to Pugwash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Expect congestion and associated pollution, safety hazards and argy-bargy on adjacent streets and no input from the school and/or local authorities to police these new infractions. -
It is Dunstan’s that’s the school road. The cameras deter drivers but parents choose now to park illegally and hazardously in nearby streets. Given that the school hires itself out to summer schools etc. to make money, bad behaviour persists and congestion, idling engines multiply. (The council must have known that without physical attendants the problem would simply be displaced, wouldn’t it? Or am I crediting it with too much savvy?)
