  1. People considering voting green because “ugh ugh the smell of a meaningless vote” would do well to heed the words of Jess Phillips (hero!!! She resigned her position in rebellion against starmer! Legend) about the Green Party and their tactics today You people looking for purity - it don’t exist Not here. Not anywhere take a deep breath - examine the situation, the possibilities, the personalities, the realities - and make informed choices knee jerking on a nothing vote is feckless
  2. QID should definitely be ranked (significantly) higher than first 2 Smiths albums my favourite (and therefore subjectively best ever) would include: Tindersticks - 2nd album Fatima Mansions - Viva Dead Ponies Bowie - Low male and white heavy I know.
  3. "Thanks for this - if you checked the times I was typing at the same time as you S." ah right - makes sense now. Cheers "But what do you suggest Joe public and our politicians do HeadNun? " There are some things that aren't FOR our UK politicians to do. But I support people supporting a ceasfire - I just don't understand the logic of going as far as not voting for an mp you normally would on something like this.
  4. where do you get that I'm mocking anyone, much less taking pleasure from it? Nothing about any of this gives any pleasure - the long history, the oct 7th atrocities, the Israel retaliation, the endless lost lives, Palestinians being used as human shields by Hamas - it is endlessly endlessly horrific in all it's facets And calling for a ceasefire is understandable - but people saying they will not vote for their preferred party because of a meaningless vote is cuttings one's nose off to spite one's face. It makes no sense. And that isn't mockery or me taking pleasure.
  5. There are things that are in the gift of UK government to deliver - A Ceasefire in Israel/Palestine is simply not one of them And if it's not in the gift of UK government, then it's DEFINITELY not true of UK opposition parties So by all means transfer your vote on some arbitrary decision - but all you are doing is helping the current govt retain power - events in middle-east will not be changed in any single way because of any UK internal vote - but schools and hospitals will continue to suffer
  6. well - not so much the brewers - it' more the pubcos who own all the pubs themselves - they dictate what they landlord can sell and what price they charge
  7. The rollbacks just keep coming (and that’s all there ever will be. All self-inflicted loss. No gain - not to mention the costs inflicted on neighbouring countries) a moral stain on this country forever https://news.sky.com/story/eu-equality-laws-to-be-reinstated-to-avoid-gap-in-protections-for-workers-13002094
  8. Annual "Nigello starts a Poppy thread about being disappointed at lack of.." comes around quicker every year
  9. A small article, in the scheme of things but so telling years of posturing, declarations, bans but English towns and businesses suffer. So of course it gets reversed just like everything about Brexit will be https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/brexit-id-card-passport-eu-b2441232.html
  10. If you only ever wish to browse the internet or use web versions of places like Netflix and never intend to do anything remotely useful (maybe download a song or two? Photos? ) then they might do a job I’ve used two over the years and hated every second I wouldn’t worry about mixing and matching apple/windows/android products too much As it happens I have migrated dummy into apple ecosystem and there are some benefits but there are still a mixture of Android/windows devices around the house and everything is usable (It’s just imo, some things are more usable than others I can never get over how long a windows laptop takes to wake up after opening the mid compared to instant on a Mac Similarly, 12 hours of battery life on a recent Mac compared to 5-6 ish on windows laptops Plus that fan noise)
  11. Nope
  12. "you don't fully own your device once you bought it" I really doubt this, given there is a thriving second hand market And you aren't "tied" to apple at all
  13. I've been a windows user most of my life - but when Apple released the M1 MacBook airs I heard good things and gave them a whirl. No going back now for me - yes adjusting to new OS took a few moments but the battery life, immediate wake up from sleep and overall performance (even basic 8gb/256SSD) have remained rocketed after 2 years+ (whereas windows laptops clogged up with all manner of cruft in that time). Graphics work (like video editing on large files) doesn't even break a sweat (and it's completely silent - you won't hear a fan whirr up ) I know one people will never countenance an apple - but for me it was a game changer - these days you can find one for 7-800 pounds
  14. Good lord in heaven
  15. Which resident of Clacton on last night's QT would most resemble forum leavers do we think?
  16. Benefits of deregulation being felt in neighbouring country? "The reason for the notices are inadequate evidence of food traceability and alleged non-compliance with import legislation from non-EU countries." https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2023/0615/1389370-iceland/ http://www.healthhq.world/issue-sections/country-reports/uk/uk-delays-post-brexit-food-checks-on-eu-imports-until-end-of-2023/
  17. The absolute state of Johnson's "defence" this morning, and to watch the same weasely acolytes pipe up with their agreed lines
  18. Very good article from Behr this morning - has a go at explaining why Brits just can't even face talking about it (not that they weren't warned and they still have to deal with the mess - but still...) https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/may/24/brexit-britain-appetite-revolution-keir-starmer-labour
  19. A burrito joint Bob on the one hand the lane has lost Barclays (Not the most ethical of banks anyway but a national chain) and hisar (a Turkish restaurant I have had many great nights in but cost cutting took its toll there even before I left Dulwich and it has long been a tired venue struggling to keep pace. And the food suffered) on the other hand. Two chains move in (net: one extra chain). Do I love either of their food offerings ? Not really but chipotle does give a tasty and quick hit. they aren’t the worst by any means.
  20. This should not be news to anyone
  21. This will upset a few people I’m sure (they had better get used to it Will be a LOT more of this in coming years as uk tries to mitigate the damage whisky pretending all is well) https://www.politico.eu/article/eu-ambassadors-to-uk-to-discuss-post-brexit-relation-on-away-day-delegation-member-states-uk-think-tanks/
  22. I know online forums are “over it”/bored by it but the damage mounts and pretending things will be better in 20/50 years as this stuff mounts is just for the birds I get why people stuck their fingers in their ears over stuff they can’t do much about but this is self-Inflicted and won’t ever ever get better until the country that “broke it pays for it “ right now I would settle for the country acknowledging the problem instead of pretending it didn’t exist
  23. If Arsenal were to lose the title this season it would be (probably) very different from that earlier collapse. WIth City having a game in hand, the gap is effectively 3 points. So if Arenal lose to City at the Etihad, City would be on top with a goal difference advantage - even if Arenal won all their other games (and assuming City do similar) So no collapse required - it simply comes down to two league games against City and if City win both of them you can't argue with them being champions. Remarkable that Arsenal are even this close tbh
  24. As a general comment, so far I'm really enjoying the recent changes Admin - a fair bit of work involved I'd imagine so well done
  25. That wasn’t an escort. That was someone he is helping with their computer
