  1. Totally agree with you Kristymac, we are near Heber school, the only time you hear children is break times and even then it's minimal and not unpleasant. Nursery's simply do not open weekends or longer hours than this.... The demand isn't there. I would have no objection to a nursery opening near me either. Interesting the person trying to stir things up is a first time poster.... Makes you suspect there is more to it!
  2. Can you find out the names of people living in your house online too? If not where and how do you get these records? Presumably not stored in the churches themselves....
  3. My daughter loved her jumparoo and the Vtech baby walker at 6 months. Didn't use the walker to walk with obviously but loved all the buttons and sounds. She also had a bouncer that went in the doorway that was popular. Simple sensory toys were all good too, and generally inexpensive.
  4. Which part of Goodrich? I'm on Goodrich too and am home all day, far more aware of passers by now!
  5. Leonie Penna is lovely! She is a Consultant Obstetrician and she is very personable. Would definitely recommend her, I was so relieved after my appointment with her, someone who listened to me! That said, you shouldn't need to see an Obstetrician given you want VBAC, I think in the first instance you should get an appointment with one of the Consultant Midwifes. Leonie advised me that most women (certainly in this area) choose VBAC, Kings are happy to do this so I really can't see you having any issues unless there are medical reasons that make VBAC high risk.
  6. Couldn't put everything I wanted to as typing on phone!! For me personally I'm not comfortable with the childminder option and the nursery idea was never about childcare as such and more to do with the other benefits. Each child is different, don't feel bad and if it doesn't work out as being as you hoped your in the great position of being able to stop baby Paps going without worrying about alternative childcare! My only practical suggestion is would two half days be practical instead of 1 day? Nursery days are very long and I was advised to avoid one day a week.
  7. Hi Paps, Don't feel bad, you can only do what you think is right, ultimately, there is no crystal ball! Also, what is ultimately good won't necessarily feel like it at the time! I can't help with suggestions as I've no experience in this but am in a similiar position to you and have been agonising over the nursery dilemma. I think ultimately it's an individual thing! Those with children at nursery are pro nursery, those who use minder's are pro minder's etc. One common area is that it's always hard at first and settling in takes a fcouple of weeks! Good luck x
  8. There is a finger toothbrush in the packet of dentinox toothpaste. I bought my last pack at the Sainsburys on DKH. C x
  9. I use Dentinox toothpaste and finger brush which my daughter seems to like, also, I make the sound of an electric toothbrush (like we use) which she thinks is great and so lets me brush her teeth!
  10. Kings are very pro VBAC, seems odd the MW's would act this way. I have been told that Kings will not induce anyone that has had a C Section before, that said though, presumably a C Section would not be booked until 42 weeks.......
  11. I swapped from Kings to Tommy's when @ 34 weeks which meant I swapped MW practices too. No problem at all, just went to my GP and told him I wanted to swap, he asked why and then referred me.... I had to go through booking in again and another load of blood tests but it was fine :) I think if you want something other than community midwifes you may struggle - nothing to lose having a phone around. Good luck x
  12. Thank you :-) My daughter isn't yet old enough but good to know for the future. What age did your children start?
  13. Do magic moments have a website/waiting list?
  14. a spare room could always be let but people choose not to for whatever reason. There is still risk and inconvenience associated with renting a spare rooom.....if people choose not to let their spare rooms for usual rent as a matter of course, why would they when the Olympics on?
  15. I really don't see the issue at all, there are always way's to do things even when money an issue. The analogy with the ticket touts really doesn't fit. Friends of mine were in Australia travelling when the Sydney Olympics was being held, they took employment on the Olympic site and got to see loads of events as a result! If someone has tickets to the Olympics, not being able to afford to stay within a few miles of the site is not going to stop them being able to go to the Olympics - we do after all have pretty good public transport which runs late into the night and some is 24 hours! Londoners will only give up their homes and accept the risk / hassle associated with that if it's worth their while.
  16. And let's not forget tourists don't HAVE to stay in central London! Plenty of campsites/ b&b's within an hours train ride!
  17. From my own personal experience it wasn't until I saw a dermatologist that I got the problem sorted! Ie prevention instead of continually treating! If you have it covered privately you have nothing to lose!! Def go and see one x
  18. Compiling a mr and mrs type list of questions as to how well she knows her hubby to be can be quite fun, you will of course need his assistance for the answers!!
  19. Have you tried a humidifier and snufflebabe? Maybe it's the nose that is the issue....
  20. Wanting advice on how maintenance is calculated and if overnight stays effect maintenance payments where it's not a case of joint custody but a situation where one partner has to do a certain amount of night shifts contractually for their job. Thanks C
  21. My partner has had eczema from 6 mths and I have very sensitive skin. Our daughter hasn't been diagnosed with it but I have been very aware she is likely to have it and been really careful. She is susceptible to getting dry skin. I always bath her immediately after swimming and then rub lots of diprobase cream into her skin. If her skin looks a little dry I reduce baths to every other day and use oilatum junior. Has so far done the trick....... The other avenue is to be tested for allergies as these can be a trigger. My partner won't eat eggs and hasn't since 6 mths when the Dr said to his parents to exclude them!
  22. How long can you leave him? Penny Hill Park around an hour away and has a lovely spa :-)
  23. I think each baby is different, my sister's two both slept through from 8 weeks (grrrr), my daughter is 13 months now and as a newborn she fed like clockwork every 3 hours. By 4 months she only had one night feed around 2 am. prior to that (but post the 3 hourly feeds) it was 2 feeds, with the other feed being around 11 (she goes to bed at 7 and gets up around half 7 to 8 ) From day one I was very strict in terms of making sure she fed for at least 15 minutes and then 20 when she was a bit bigger. She would try to snack and go back to sleep so I would keep her awake until she had enough milk - hard to do and determine when b\f ing. She slept through fairly early on (7pm to 7.30 / 8ish) but when she is unwell / teething etc she does randomly regress back to wanting a 2am feed. This then goes on for weeks after she is better :-( I know she doesn't need the feed as such but we do just give it to her as it's easy and the quickest way to get her back to bed! Good luck, the interruptions to sleep are so much worse when they are not newborn for some reason :-(
  24. When I looked it did seem to be common practice! I thought it a licence to print money given the payment required to go on the list was non refundable even when no place offered! The longer the list the more money they make.... Doesn't exactly encourage limiting waiting lists to numbers they can reasonably expect to offer a place to in the required time span. Not all follow this method though and I did think much higher of those that didn't use this system.
  25. :-) Enjoy! :)-D
