  1. As I understand it the reason is cost rather than risk to the baby. Cost's a lot of money for a plane to land somewhere other than it's destination and a birth after 37 weeks is after all deemed full term! From the insurers point of view there is a fairly high risk the baby will be born abroad which does rather mean a blank cheque on medical expenses - hence the exclusion. I girl I used to work with went to France and went into labour and gave birth there, all was fine with mum and baby but the medical expenses were very high and there was definitely a dispute with the insurance company over them - think she wasnt covered but hadnt realised as hadnt checked the policy.
  2. I can't make this Thursday eiher but anyone fance a meet the following Thursday (3rd March)?
  3. I have a baby jogger 2 for running with, it's fantastic and actually built for that purpose. Also folds flat when not in use and is very light. Its great for walking in the woods etc too Really pleased with it, would definitely reccomend.
  4. Are there any more meet's arranged? It was lovely meeting you all but we couldnt make the following week and then the thread seemed to die a death.......

  6. I was fortunate in that my emergency C Section at Tommy's was not disimiliar, the C Section was emergency but not crash which I suspect made all the difference. Again, there was no bubble wrap though! It's good to hear all these positive elective caesarian at Kings experiences, I am booked in for an elective on the 3rd May! Does anyone know which hospital is following this "natural" C Section procedure? I agree it does look as though it's a private hospital rather than NHS, although from my experience the NHS non crash C Sections are not very different - although I am fairly certain I didn't look as glam having laboured all day ;-)
  7. http://www.skitopia.com/ski-deals/late-ski-deals.asp All inclusive Montgenevre (right on Italian border and very good for beginners) - ?499 Ive stayed at the chalet / hotel concerned, very basic but has a cool bar and the food was fine albeit rather canteen like facilities.
  8. Keef, Baby "I" had gunky eyes with a cold a few weeks back, the pharmacist said that everything you can buy over the counter was aged 2 and above. Dr said drops no good as they are antibiotic based and the infection was not bacterial but viral (presumably as part of a cold), was told to bathe with cooled boiled water. I was dubious but it did actually work after a few days. You basically dip the cotton wool in the water, wipe from inner to outer eye (nose to ear) and then repeat with a new piece of cotton wool until gunge removed and eye clean. You then repeat the other side.
  9. You can pick up cheap deals (@ ?300) but by the time you have added lift passes, equipment hire and lessons it does soon add up. If you don't mind basic accomodation, there is a company called Skitopia which basically specialises in school trips, in term time the accomodation is available to non school groups and is generally very competitive and includes equipment hire. They will be able to organise lessons and lift passes and may even offer deals on these if booked last minute. They are based in cornwall, think the website is wwww.skitopia.co.uk
  10. I bought buggysnuggle one's for my Vibe, fit fine and are very cosy and far more spacious than the P&T footmuff. I also have sheepskin liners, one from JoJo the other Blooming Marvelous, both fit fine.
  11. When the younger child is newborn / less than 6 months, the younger one goes in the main seat and the doubles kit is clicked on top, so the older child sits above the baby but in the additional seat. Once the younger one is 6 months (although most seem to do this younger than 6 months), the older child goes in the main section and the younger child goes in the doubles kit positioned beneath the main seat - ie in the position you generally see the doubles kit. If you put the older child underneath there is a risk of the buggy tipping as the weight isn't balanced correctly. Cx
  12. Which airline's cabin crew continue flying when pregnant? Neither BA or Virgin allow it, their crew are immediately taken off flying duties and given ground staff positions instead, not popular with the crew as it effects their take home pay :-(.
  13. Your difficulty will be finding an airline that will allow you to fly this late, also double check your insurance covers you. I was given a great deal of grief at Barcelona airport when I was fairly early in my pregnancy (23 weeks ish), they wouldn't let me fly home unless I signed a disclaimer basically stating that no matter what they circumstances, in the event I was injured / killed they would not be liable! Extremely dubious to say the least AND I had my notes proving due date, the relevant midwife letter and was barely showing! Conversely I flew 4 times a bit later on in the pregnancy and no one bat an eyelid! Didn't fly after around 26 weeks.
  14. Think I would call the carpet cleaner's round..... they have chemicals for different substances, best chance of it being removed.
  15. Chamonix is not somewhere very suitable for a beginner. A lot of resorts have nursery slopes at the top of the gondola / cable car, some all the slopes are accessible from a gondola / cable car ride eg Mayrohofen, Klosters, Sol (excluding the very early nursery slope). If you can have lessons before you go you will progress quicker and get more out of the holiday. I used to teach at a dry slope and number of lessons needed really does depend on the individual..... fitness and confidence go a long way with skiing!! As mentioned if you can master controlled snow plough turns and stopping between now and going you more than likely will be comfortable on red runs by the end of your first week on snow. I can't ski this season, first one in around 11 years! I usually ski around 5 weeks per season and am missing it so much!! Beware, it is highly addictive ;-)
  16. Completely agree that Austria or Italy would be your best bet. What are you looking for other than learning to ski? Is good apr?s ski important too? Would you prefer a chalet or hotel? Package deals including equipment hire and ski school are a good option, depending how much you are looking to spend it may be worth joining the Ski Club GB, membership gives good discounts on holidays from most of the major tour operators. I will admit at thus stage that I am a rep (Ski leader) for the club, however do look at the website there is loads of information on different resorts, suitability for beginners etc. If you have somewhere in mind PM me and I am happy to give you the lowdown :-)
  17. Baby number 1 is 13 mths, baby 2 due in 10 weeks..... My parents have said they will have our daughter for a weekend so we can go away as a couple for a weekend before baby 2 arrives. Any recommendations of places to go / stay? Wanting something relaxing but open to all suggestions :-) Thankyou Clare
  18. ooh no, poor little thing :-( Do they have any idea what caused it? Must admit I hadn't heard of snot coming out of ears before. Hope she feels better soon.
  19. My ex MIL lost 2 babies, one was stillborn at full term, the other a cot death. She never really spoke of the babies she lost or how awful that was to deal with but she did say how people avoided her and didnt get in contact and how hurtful it was to be avoided / ignored by friends and neighbours/. It made her feel as though she had done soemthing wrong / was somehow to blame and made a terrible tragedy worse. Although it may be awkward and difficult knowing what to say to people that suffer this loss, it is far worse to avoid them / avoid speaking with them.
  20. The 63 from Peckham Rye worth trying too if you work Holborn. I worked in Hatton Garden for a couple of months, by far the fastest route was City Thameslink from Denmark Hill.
  21. It's very reasonable if you buy a season ticket, I do drive there though and wouldn't have a clue how to get there by public transport :-( Beckenham Spa is easy by train and clean. Not as large as Gambados but quite pleasant.
  22. Thanks Moos, do you happen to know in what circumstances you should see an obsteotrician / consultant midwife?
  23. Boots have a good range of sun creams specifically for babies, usual one's are not recommended for babies. I think ours was made by Simple, worked really well but did stain clothes which made application once dressed more difficult than it needed to be. The all in one UV suits and a wide rimmed sun hat are great.
  24. I agree with LittleEDfamily, as lovely as it is to hear successful VBAC stories, it would be short sighted to go into it not understanding the risk involved and that ruptures do happen. There is very little information about this available and the stats on likelihood of occurence rather conflicting! Thankyou Forgetful for sharing your experience. Does anyone know what the 'procedure' is with anti natal care when your last birth was an emergency C Section? Is it standard local midwife care or should you be referred to an obsteotrician or other ?
  25. You should get a seat at that time of morning, it's around 8 it gets busy. The timetable is something like every 8 - 10 minutes and it's usually pretty regular, you do need to allow time for traffic though, the Strand is pretty busy. It's been ages since I caught it regularly each morning but unless it's changed dramatically you should find a good time to be at the bus stop each morning within a few trips, just err on the side if caution and go early rather than late, makes for a much quicker more pleasant journey! Welcome to ED :-)
