I was mugged on East Dulwich Grove -8:35pm 11.01.11
ClareC replied to Jess-ED's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Jess- ED Glad you are OK. It's a horrible thing to happen and really does shake you up, it happened to me in Camberwell about 4 years ago. I felt jumpy for a while afterwards but it does go away, and hopefully makes you safer as you become more aware. Thanks for letting us know, it's handy to prevent complacency!! Ironically I actually was suspicious / didn't like the look of the guy that did it to me before the event. He was on a pushbike coming towards me and I purposely moved right over on the pavement so he couldn't get alongside me - he cycled passed, turned round and came from behind when I wasn't being cautious a bit further down the road! The police were great, drove me about looking for him - although apparantly they wear layers of clothes so they can simply strip the top layer off and change their clothing description in seconds! Definitely trust your instincts!! I crossed over on a dark part of Goodrich Road about 5pm one night last week because I didn't like the look of a chap coming towards me - dawdling from side to side apparantly on the phone in heavy rain, just didn't seem right........ Would like to think that as I had a pushchair with my (nearly) 1 year old daughter in and am fairly obviously pregnant with number 2 that he wasn't dodgy at all but you never know! Make's no difference if your phone is sought after or not - they can't see the phone, just take it anyway on the chance it is worth having. Scum! -
My daughter is 1 next week, baby number 2 due in May. It's unlikely I will go back to work between now and the birth of number 2, so have no current childcare. I am considering starting my daughter at a local nursery for 1 or 2 days a week so that when number 2 is born he does have some time with my complete attention. I have really cold feet at the idea of nursery though when I don't technically "need" to use one. Interested in advice / opinions as to what age children need to be to actuallu enjoy nursery/benefit from attending one. Whether one day a week is fine or (as i have been told) 2 better as they don't "settle" well with one day. If two days, is it best to go with consecutive days or does it make no difference? 8 - 6 seems a really long day but the nursery's like the children to all arrive / leave together. How have people found these long days? I know I am being completely nurotic, I would like to think if I had to put her in nursery I would dither far less and just get on with it. Would love to hear from those that have children in nursery :-) Thank you C

My inlaws booked a room there when they came down immediately after our daughter was born (we had said no overnight guests). They walked into their room, walked straight back out again and back to our house where we ended up with house guests, said they couldnt possibly stay there.......

Gym babes is for prewalkers and is mainly soft free play with a few songs at the beginning / end. There are slides, tunnels, tents, parallel bars, trampettes, all sorts really. It's held near North Dulwich Station in St Faiths church hall. Once the babies can walk they graduate to the next class up which is Tumble Tots, same sort of thing but more structured I beleive. Cx

Got pregnant while still breastfeeding?
ClareC replied to bee74's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I fell pregnant when my daughter was 6 months, never had a period. I exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months and didn't fall pregnant but the minute she went onto solids I did..... I did know that it only works as contraception when babies are exclusively breastfed but it was still a surprise (we had actually started being careful after she started weaning). -
I washed my ipod at 60 degree's............. that was the end of that!

I'm Goodrich so not far.... Our LE is Milo Road I believe. -
We hired a 7 seater car for a couple of weeks to take to the Alps, can't remember the exact model but it was a Vauxhall and was surprisingly comfortable with bags of space. I know it was not an expensive car as I remember being surprised at how expensive the hire was....

Where in ED are you? Perhaps your on a different LE to us. I've just upgraded to the 50mg service which is being installed next week, no mention of problems in the area.... -

My daughter is nearly 12 months and number 2 is due in May (15 1/2 month gap, eek), seems unlikely I will go back to work between the two and would love to meet up with you all.

Volvo XC 90 two extra seats in boot as an extra and they fold when not in use.

Where to go? Day trip for winter first birthday?
ClareC posted a topic in The Family Room Discussion
My daughter will be 1 in a couple of weeks, we are having a party for her friends the weekend before but wanted to take her out for the day on her birthday itself. Originally was thinking the London Aquarium but it doesn't seem to get good reviews. Any other suggestions? January birthdays seem so rubbish :-( If it was summmer the zoo and a picnic would be nice but I am at a loss for a cold potentially wet day! Thx Clare -
Hiya Leanne, I think it really all comes down to how you feel about a home birth, are you comfortable with the idea or does it scare you? If your comfortable with it and have confidence in your midwife it certainly has many pros. If your not, would those fears make the experience a non relaxing and stressful one? If you want hospital, that is your choice just get yourself there asap!

Sounds like a dog or cat has pee'd on it! Ive never had a plastic tree and in my entire life the Christmas tree has not started to smell! My dad does make a point of not leaving his out in the garden in between buying it and putting it up - he left it on the patio overnight and a cat peed on it which was apparantly quite unpleasant!!

My daughter is nearly 1 and number 2 is due in April, we have invested in a Phil & Ted's Vibe. Pleased with it so far and it's practical as its normal width (easy for buses) and folds very easily and fairly small for the car. I didn't go for a side by side since I didn't fancy my chances on the narrow pavements of LL and small shops - even a normal width buggy isnt always easy for this :-(

We , have had an irish chap knocking the door to ask if we wanted the hedge trimmed, it was quite a while ago though, probably late summer / autumn time. He was fairly persistent and as you mention didn't appear to have any tools with him.
