Road Traffic Accident
-
Have just had some building work done and the builder left some Acro props in the front garden for him to remove from site, they disapeared today and I assumed he had taken them. Found out this evening he didn't! Did anyone see anything on Goodrich Road just up from the Castle? They were clearly stolen. The front garden is enclosed with a gate so they were not particularly visible and it was blatantly clear there is building work going on ie not surplus to requirements! Any info appreciated. Thanks

Are Foxtons actually selling houses in ED?
ClareC replied to MrsP's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As someone who would like to leave London in the not so distant future, I would be interested to ask the buyers out there what they think the current "value" of ED properties is? Particularly interestesd in current "value" of a 4 bed (3 good sized doubles one with ensuite, one single (estate agent double!!))Victorian semi, in catchment area for good schools (Heber and Goodrich)in good decorative order, large eat in kitchen (new) (side return extension done), 2 additional reception rooms, new bathrooms (one bathroom, one shower room and a downstairs cloakroom, loft converted, small garden and 5 min walk to Lordship Lane and Dulwich Park (15 min walk to station). Any offers welcome ;-) In all seriousness, Ive looked on right move and similiar houses seem to be priced ridiculously high with KFH and Foxtons, but it's impossible to find sold prices of something similiar given there is not enough information on the sold prices to know if a house is comaparable or not! -

There are...... unreliable though according to Consultant Obs :-(

iPhones do make for amusing posts!! Why are parents today so much softer than the 70's? To be honest it wasn't exactly tough in the 70's.... You just didn't get as much and discipline seemed either stricter or more effective! I am already choosing my battles and my daughter only 15 mths!! Eek, is there any hope? On a positive note she doesn't tend to get up until 730 am :-) (nothing to do with my parenting, that's just when she wakes!)

That's a shame if that is the case, it's the ideal set up and I've heard Tommy's are very pro VBAC. I was concerned about time to get there too, as it was, it only took 15 mins as it was early hours of morning! No guarantees on that happening but I worked on the basis I could always go to Kings given their open door policy whereas had to be booked at Tommy's to go there. Not much help if they won't allow HFH though :-(
-
Just a thought but have you thought about doing HFH at Tommy's? Def worth thinking about as you would have a non hospitalised environment but with the hospital side there should you need it.

Hi Ruth, I too had an emergency C Section first time round, I also fell pregnant again 6 months later... Eek! I've opted for an elective C Section this time and am under the care of Leonie Penna. On a positive, Leonie advised me there is no evidence to suggest a higher risk of rupture in a VBAC due to the pregnancy being a short period after the first section. On a negative, she also said no way to home birth and no way to water..... That said, my midwife was keen on both so it's not unheard of. Btw, the continuous monitoring facility for water is unreliable which may be relevant to your decision. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Interesting Guardian article today on home birth
ClareC replied to Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Tommy's HFH section is great, on the same corridor as the medical bit so most of the benefits of home with Dr's and medical kit a stones throw away! -
These posts make me paranoid and we are a good few years away and live really close to a decent school!! Should you literally list one to six as being the 6 closest schools in order of proxiity to ensure you get a local school ie making a mockery of having a choice? What happens where one of your closest schools is one you stand no chance of getting a place at eg St Anthony's when you are CoE and not a regular church goer?

We used one of the pampers bed pads on the lap and swapped between her sitting with me and her dad, with the other at the ready with the sample pot (with funnel). We also gave her lots to drink for the duration - my partner was the lucky recipient when she eventually went - the pad was good but he still got splashed ;-) Good luck, it really isnt the easiest of tasks and takes a lot of time and patience unfortunately, no easy solution.

We took nappy off and waited...... Ages!! Managed to get a sample eventually!! The bags come unstuck, we had no success....

I tried Zoopla too and it didn't seem at all accurate in comparison to what was on the Market and sold prices. Wasn't a small sum out either!! -
Lots of Changing mats on the floor at both the HH and Dulwich pools too.

What is the going commission rate for Estate Agents? -
My daughter has had babyswimming classes since she was 4 months. She is nearly 15 mths now and I'm really seeing the benefit. She is really confident in water and holds on to the side of the pool alone etc. We started at Herne Hill and moved to the Dulwich pool for her current term. Herne Hill is good, however, the last term we were there quite a few lessons were cancelled and we didn't always get told which was infuriating. The reason for the cancellations were (I believe) that the swimming school were not happy with the chlorine levels, which is entirely acceptable, just would be better if they had told us albeit late notice. Don't know if the pool has had the same issues this term or not. None of the lessons at Dulwich have been cancelled and it's a nice pool with good facilities :-) teacher (Nora) is the same at both locations. She is very good with the babies :-)

Wouldn't go with IKEA kitchens at all, they are not great quality. Would recommend Howdens, much better quality and reasonably priced. Howden store's compete with one another on price too.

Family coming to London : what to do
ClareC replied to bouhbouh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thames Clipper down to Greenwich is a nice river trip, you could then look round Greenwich, have a picnic in the park an get the clipper back. The Ribs are fun but not everyone's cup of tea and may not be suitable for the younger children. -
Are my NCT classes going to be too late?!
ClareC replied to ladyruskin's topic in The Family Room Discussion
dates look fine, its normal to have the classes the month before the due month. You will meet people there but also you will meet other mum's from groups etc around ED. I am due in 3 weeks (number 2) and have met loads of people through number 1 and this forum! -

Totally agree with you MP, like you I have never parked in a disabled space (and wouldn't dream of doing so) or a parent and child one other than when I have had my daughter with me. This thread really shows a lot of people as either being purposely antagonistic for some strange personal kick or genuinely shockingly self centred. I love going to Sainsbury's child free and being able to park in a normal size space - Even with a 4x4 (dare I admit it) the normal spaces are perfectly large enough to park and be able to get in and out comfortably. I also have no issue with walking further. I am able bodied and healthy and let's face it even if parking in the furthest corner it's only a couple of minutes walk! My daughter is 14 months and walking (toddling), there is no way on earth she could get herself into the car and into her car seat alone let alone understanding that that was required of her. I am 8 1/2 months preganant at the moment so really appreciate the parent parking on the rare occasion I get a space. The suggestion above that parents only shop when the other parent is about is amusing, assuming there is another parent at all, the chances are this would only be possible at peak times - hmmmmm -
Check what happens to your existing deal when the time limit ends, often it's x pc above base which given current base is likely to still be a low percentage. You can always then revisit the situation at any time should base rate look to be increasing etc. There are lots of financial advisors that are remunerated by commission rather than you paying direct. I use Simon Hughes of Conran Estates in Greenwich for mortgage / property financial advise, he is independent and very good.

Wakes me and my partner most nights..... And any guests that stay always comment. Fortunately only occasionally wakes our toddler!

What relevance are dogs to a post about whether or not cyclists are rude? Just because the OP mentioned she/he has a dog doesn't make it relevant to the thread.... And the 'cyclists' outraged by the OP are no better dragging dogs and their owners into it! They are doing exactly the same as they are complaining of theirselves!! Why can't people unable to live and let live not choose to live in such a built up City!

Hole through to next door is objectionable because my dog and toddler could then also get through to next door, and wander onto the road ...... The holes never used to be there, I lived here a couple of years with no problems at all, it's only since the fox family have expanded they have become destructive. Edited to add, re the the statistics of one town fox per 1,800 town people, I think we have far more than that in ED! We had 3 fox cubs sleeping all day (dry days only) on top of one of the bushes in the garden throughout the summer last year - the bush is really tall, around 2 metres high, it was quite an incredible sight. At night they and their parents (and occasionally in the daytime) ran across the top of the bush to get from garden to garden - no need for holes in fences, they are as agile as cats and can climb!
