  1. Personally I think 20mm oak flooring laid on top of floor boards is fine. If your other rooms are carpeted, then the carpet + underlay will itself have around 10mm thickness, so the difference is not really that bad with the right threshold trim.
  2. Four Seasons for Cantonese roast meats, Bar Shu for Sichuan. If you want crispy duck, sweet & sour pork, and that funny "seaweed" stuff then take your pick from the rest of them, they're all basically the same.

I thought a plate of pasta was like ?12? I suppose if you get 2 x starter, pasta, dessert and a bottle of wine it could cost that much. But I don't know many restaurants where that isn't the case.
  4. Agree with some of your points PeckhamRose, but where is the evidence to suggest these flats will cost ?1M? As far as I am aware, that sort of money would get you a very nice house around Bellenden/Goose Green sort of area, so why are people assuming that a flat on Rye Lane would cost just as much? I'm reluctant to support a petition that uses deliberate spin.

Whether 8:40 is more useful than 7:40 is entirely subjective and pretty much irrelevant. We used to have a good peak frequency, and now we don't.

No, alternate trains in the morning rush hour are still terminating at South Bermondsey. Shit service.

  8. Guinea Pigs are absolutely fine in a hutch outside most of the year. Just make sure it is very secure from foxes and cats. You can always get a folding run to give them a bit of a runabout now and again. But I do think you need an indoor alternative (especially at night time) during the winter months.

I'm sure they'll get it sorted out, and you should at least expect some free drinks and food too... Back on topic, I like Nando's. Always looking for places we can eat dinner with a small kid, so will probably use it now and again. And I think it would be likely to attract a cross-section of the community (as does Costa) which can only be a good thing.
  10. The density of housing concerns me. But I'm not so convinced by the arguments about social cohesion. Every new block of flats going up in London is described as "luxury". That doesn't necessarily make them so. The petition claims the flats will cost over ?1 million... on what evidence?

Yes, exactly this. They would have been after the float. But on a busy day like xmas eve, this would probably have been more substantial than usual.
  12. Come on John, don't keep us in suspense! How's the Charles Bronson stuff going? My tuppennce worth... no matter how "handy" you might think you are, you'd be putting yourself in a lot of danger taking on more than one guy by yourself.. screwdriver or not..

Bloody hell... this thread is a car crash... If you are all bots, then I take comfort in the fact that AI is clearly still in it's infancy. If you are real people, then... just... stop.

  15. Well it was a back street pub, struggling to compete. I agree with that much. Not really scruffy, though. And it's not a dodgy area at all.. in terms of crime stats, I doubt that specific part of Peckham is really discernible from East Dulwich.
  16. VerryBerry Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Dulwich park is a far better location > if there is to be no parking as it's an already > enclosed space and accessible via public > transport. Really? I think Peckham Rye park is much better served. Peckham Rye station is a bit of a stroll away, but there are 3-4 different routes running through it. Dulwich Park is not great for transport. And I think it's only a one day event, not a two day. I don't really understand your objection... is it mainly damage to the park which worries you? Blah Blah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > We've never heard of any of the acts performing, > so have no idea what kind of music it is. I had to look up the acts from last year, it appears to be DJs and electronic stuff, so not really what I think of as "live music" but I'm sure there's an audience for it amongst local middle-aged ex-clubbers and what have you.
  17. New Cross gate makes sense. It's a busy area, with nightlife and a university nearby. Also, as an initial expansion, it's going to be the shortest/simplest route to roll out. Maybe not much use if you're in Dulwich or Forest Hill, but useful for people in Peckham, Nunhead, Deptford, Brockley...
  18. I don't really see the problem. Are you really that bothered by a bit of music and a few thousand people for just one day? I mean last year's line-up looks pretty abysmal to me, but that's just my taste. I'm sure some people must like this stuff. Seems a bit mean-spirited to try and stop it going ahead.
  19. The content is reasonable and you have some good original shows and "box sets" you don't get with Netflix. Man In The High Castle and Walking Dead spring to mind. There are some movies included with Prime too - but you're right, you do have to pay for the majority of them. Netflix is better.
  20. I know the question - and the whole thread (actually maybe even the whole forum) - is a piss take. But, it is a French cheese shop, with only a couple of exceptions, (i.e Parmesan and Cheddar). So no Shropshire Blue. But they might have another cows milk blue cheese. If you want British cheeses, you should go to the Cheese Block.
  21. DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > 47 people in 5 rooms 9.4 people per room. is that legal. In order to fit 0.4 of a person into a room you would need to somehow cut them up. I think this is probably in contravention of EU regulation. Perhaps after we take back control, we'll have some common sense returned to British law. Abe_froeman Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > particularly for those who seem to be living in the back of some of those run > down old white vans In my (limited) experience, I think guys sleeping in white vans are often builders or labourers who have been working during the night (for shops, offices, stations, etc) and then catching a couple of hours sleep before they start their day jobs doing residential stuff...

If you're 20 and travelling Europe (ha) on a shoestring, yes of course. Isn't it practically a rite of passage? Have you really never heard of backpacking or travelling?? Bloody weird thread, this...
  23. What are you guys talking about? It's not housing, it's a backpacker hostel. Strange location, I know. But hey. Maybe they're planning some sort of USP..
  24. The pizza wouldn't bother me... the thing goes in the oven at 220C...
  25. Lots of people move to Sutton, etc especially for the grammar schools though, don't they. There's certainly no other good reason to move to Sutton.
