  1. Natty - what changes do you think Southgate needs to make ahead of Euro 2020?
  2. Quite rightly, the focus has been on getting everyone out, rather than pointing fingers. But once the dust has settled, I think the coach should have to face the music. We don't know all the facts, and obviously I don't know if he's guilty of any criminal offence... but certainly at face value, it seems incredibly reckless to take kids several km into a cave (including narrow sections you need to wriggle through) without an expert guide.
  3. I am convinced the O.P. is a chatbot, but what I can't figure out is - for what purpose?

  5. SpringTime Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Can anyone give me anymore info about La Rochelle area? V nice town, but no beach that I can recall. Les Sables Dolonne, 50 miles up the coast, has an excellent beach and is perfect for families. Royan has a pretty impressive beach too. But both lack the charm of La Rochelle.
  6. I always come home from Lidl with bags full of stuff I never knew I wanted. Granola bars, enormous bags of chocolate covered nuts, or some turron. A bottle of blue curacao or amaretto. Sometimes an angle grinder or socket set.

I'd never actually heard of Tottenham slices / Tottenham cake before. But it looks good... like something I need to eat.

  9. I have definitely seen it in Sainsburys, M&S, and Aldi.
  10. It's not as good since Chasers nightlcub closed down! But I like Sydenham.. you won't find the choice of nice restaurants and stuff that we have here, but there are a couple of good pubs, and places to get a decent coffee, etc. Some lovely houses. The main high street is pretty much completely ungentrified, but this does usually tend to mean there might be some actual useful shops. Never found it rough/dodgy at all.

I don't think that was a thing in the 80s! The stuff just came in a sort of sachet, I don't think there was a carton. mrsparker Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Oh and just had a flash back to those weird frozen > mousses. Super Mousse! that was it! Snap again. Super mousses (supermi?). Really nasty things. After we got our first microwave, my mum would defrost them in the microwave... at best they'd turn out warm and runny on the outside and frozen in the middle. At worst they'd go all rubbery and gross.
  12. JohnL Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I thought the Sunday was ThisIsGala, The Monday > was Jam on the Rye (mainly at Peckham Levels) Nope, Jam on Rye was on the same site as the Gala festival. There was a "Peckham Levels" hosted stage there.

Possibly supermarket own brand though, instead of Birds Eye. > Stuffing the car for holidays in France: Tinned > Chicken in White Sauce and tinned Chicken Curry Haha, yes, we went to France almost every year, and without fail, the first night's meal would be tinned curry, with boil-in-the-bag rice. Are you actually my sister?
  14. As a kid, in the 80s - Angel Delight (and the superior "Instant Whip"). Rowntree's Jelly. Lemon meringue pie mix. Fray Bentos Pies. Smash. Heinz puddings with evaporated milk poured over it. Mr Kipling's country slices. Canned chicken curry (we'd never go on holiday without an emergency supply). Crispy pancakes, chicken nuggets, and "turkey steaks". Alphabites, potato waffles, and "oven crunchies". Pop tarts. Alphabetti spaghetti. Heinz London Grill. As a student in the 90s - Curry made with Tesco "value" sausages, spag bol with the equivalent burgers. Cheese & Dolmio toasties. Tinned hot dogs. Kwik Save "no frills" apple pies, heated in the oven, topped with Kwik Save ice cream. Now - Fish fingers. Sainsburys currys. Ben & Jerrys.
  15. We went along yesterday... + : amazing weather, friendly atmosphere, well organised, good beer, good food, music at kid-friendly volumes, plenty of shade. Free water. - : only 10-12 food trucks, so as a "food festival" it fell short. Only one ice cream seller, with a huge queue. Expensive day out at ?30 entry, full price food, ?5 cans. The music got a bit boring... (I *do* like reggae, but prefer the more melodic variety rather than repetitive stuff with toasting over the top).

  17. I mean... I'm all for the festival, but looking at the lineup, it is mainly people playing records. Is that what happens at "music festivals" these days?
  18. Jules-and-Boo Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'm up for music but very disppointed my teens can't go. Under 18s are allowed in with an adult, so why not just go with them? You could always go seperate ways once inside.
  19. Sweeney Todd and Hilary Briss jokes aside... it does seem strange that they can apparently make a miraculoulsy good meat-free burger, but are unable to cook chips.
  20. A bit late in the year now, but if you pick it when it's young, you can cook with it, using it as a rhubarb substitute. Or make knotweed vodka: http://www.theotherandyhamilton.com/2012/04/01/andy-hamiltons-delicous-knotweed-vodka/
  21. I'm never one to shy away from the elephant in the room... is nobody suspicious of these remarkably good "vegan burgers"?

I think LL seemed much busier on thur/fri/sat nights 10 years ago than it does now. And it was a younger crowed too. Maybe partly an older demographic living/moving to ED now (middle-aged with kids). Maybe because other areas have come up in the world, so people don't bother travelling to ED any more to go drinking. As for Nando's - I think they are taking the Mothercare site on Rye Lane. I think it's a good move for them.. they have a broad appeal, and Peckham is a diverse area (in terms of background, ethnicity, age, budget) with a rapidly growing night-time economy.

I think they're often joined together - certainly the ones on our road (and the road behind) are joined. Well, at least they appear to be joined... whether the builders actually bolted them together, or just butted them up to each other, I couldn't say for sure! As for building one out of metal and glass... sounds interesting, but presumably you'll need full planning permission for this (permitted development only applies if using materials aesthetically similar to the existing construction). And it might get very hot in the summer, you'd probably need air conditioning in there.

  25. spider69 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What has being a small size got do do with owning a car? One bed flats = people without kids = less likely to have cars. It's my theory, anyway. You don't have to agree with it. I really doubt this will get through planning, but even if by some miracle it does, parking in this area is not really all that bad at the moment. The old Bellenden school redevelopment is really the one to watch... now that really IS a big site.
