Assistance re. rear extension and house renovation
fishbiscuits replied to FNB's topic in The Lounge
If you are looking specifically for a low cost solution, I'd forget about an architect... they are expensive. (Although, if you can afford it, arguably well worth it). Regarding rear extension... a small extension onto the back of a kitchen needn't be outrageously expensive, and could well fall under permitted dev. A full side return extension is a much more expensive job, and will also usually need full planning permission. -

Wonderful food... always enjoy eating there, and it would be great to be able to get takeaway. Let's keep the staff dispute a separate subject. -

You are right. Obviously a prime spot, if it's near a major road junction. Your handy list of bus routes further adds to the attraction. Thanks.

Loads going on in Peckham now... I almost never go to Lordship Lane in the evenings these days (still like it during daytime though). Although looking at some of the other entries on that list... West Village? Maybe in the 1960s!! Wan Chai? OK if you like "Irish" pubs and/or Filipino working girls. Sanlitun? Shopping malls and tourists.

100% right John, it's an individual choice. -

I know it's not about "losing stuff". I thought I explained, my theory is that carrying less valuables can make you feel less vulnerable. Perhaps it is only a psychological thing, but nevertheless it works for me. -

Generally my attitude with phones is either get it insured, or carry one you can afford to replace. Unfortunately it was the same when I was a kid, things aren't gonna change any time soon so you need to be a bit pragmatic. And it's not just about theft... loss or damage is just as likely. -

On a practical level... minicabs/Uber are surely a reasonably safe option of getting home after dark. Not a cheap option, granted. But maybe for a few weeks/months while they're still feeling vulnerable. And of course the good old-fashioned lift home. Also, things like carrying a cheap, basic phone and "uglifying" your bike will possibly make you less of a target. (I have no evidence that these will help, just a hunch) -

It's a fake https://www.aviation24.be/website/facebook/fake-video-beijing-capital-airlines-airbus-a320-accident-reached-6m-views-facebook/ As for whether flying upside down is POSSIBLE in an airliner... it should be in theory. After entering the roll, you'd have to press forward/down on the controls, as if you were performing a dive, in order to keep the nose up. But of course an airliner isn't designed to be flown upside down, and doing so might place unusual stresses on the structure. Modern planes have software preventing the pilot over-stressing the plane, so in practice it might not be possible. There are some accounts of airliners performing barrel rolls... usually accidentally, but at least one intentionally, famously in a prototype Boeing 707 over Seattle. -

Grosvenor Casino (Russel Square). See ya there. -
moanumbu: If you actually a) went to the one in Brockley or b) waited for the one in Dulwich I am sure you'd find that there was much more variety than just hoppy pale ales and IPAs. Or, you can just keep on grumbling because some people have different tastes to you.

Well, I brought the tiny terror a calippo from the ice cream van. She spent about 15 minutes sucking the life out of it, before fastidiously draining the melted remnants of luminous goodness into her little gob. So while that may have cost ?3, in reality it saved me around a tenner. The other top tip is the large inflatable slide thing, which the kids seem to stay on for as long as they like.

These things can turn into a bit of a money pit though, can't they? Managed to burn through ?20 in one hour, with just one kid!

Flying Pig was quite expensive, I think that's what put a lot of people off. East Dulwich wasn't ready for the ?6 pint. I think, from memory, London Beer Dispensary prices are a bit more competitive. malumbu Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Perhaps they may sell some stuff that > isn't extra pale pale pale American hopped pale ale. Just a few years ago, "craft beer" was practically synonymous with super-hoppy american style pale ale and IPA. But things have changed and as those styles have become mainstream, breweries have branched out. Sour beers like lambics, gueuze, gose, berliner weisse are quite popular at the moment. And besides... most people want a chilled beer in the summer!! Yes they're carbonated, but usually less than commercial beers. As the autumn, and eventual winter draw in, expect to see Marzen ("Oktoberfest" style), brown ales, dubbels, stouts, porters... Also, not all craft beer is keg dispense. If you prefer cellar temperature, non-carbonated beer then most craft beer bars should several options on cask. Sometimes you can even get the same beer on both cask and keg, so you can compare the difference it makes to the mouthfeel and flavour profile. While some beers are better suited to keg, and others to cask, most of us have our preference. You can't really say one is categorically "better" than another.

Inevitably those who live nearby will defend the location. Sorry, it's still going to be a difficult site.

I'd really question the viability of it, so far off the beaten track. But yeah, great news if you live in the no-mans-land between East Dulwich and Forest Hill, and like beer.
