New French Restaurant On North Cross Road
KrackersMaracas replied to Zak's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'd second Cafe Monico, Mick - I popped in for an excellent brunch a month or so ago and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and the setting. -
What is that saying about what happens when you ask a certain type of question? New French Restaurant On North Cross Road
KrackersMaracas replied to Zak's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It is absolutely and completely NOT permissible to show a VAT exclusive price in a retail environment - be that in a restaurant or in a shop - for end consumers. No tax will be added to the price when you pay. This is a legal requirement. Your bill may separate out a VAT charge (and show at the bottom of your receipt how much of your meal/purchase was comprised of a VAT charge) but it may not display one price in the shop and add on an additional amount at the till. ETA - my reference, The Price Marking Order 2004, section 5. -
Brown bins not emptied properly
KrackersMaracas replied to Calsug's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We have it with our green bin- we routinely find half eaten food in there that passers by have chucked, and the bin men simply lift out the bags, leaving the stinky bits in the bottom. Strangely not a problem with recycling, which we don't bag. -
Noise at Goose Green roundabout through the night
KrackersMaracas replied to betty31's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Luckily it's warmer than it was a few weeks ago - it's breaking up the road but I did worry that in freezing temperatures we could have ended up with a nasty patch of ice. The water was running too quickly in the most part but you wouldn't want to take any chances on a roundabout. -
Catherine - that guy is great! His announcements always make me smile.

I found the map interesting! I loved the place names particularly, thanks DF for sharing. Edhistory - are you suggesting it's incorrect, do you have another map you have come across which shows the local area from a similar time?

I'm with Medusa on this one - I'm seeing a lot of finger pointing and speculation. How do we know for a fact the wrong steps were taken? Is it possible that that, given the time of the incident, the nanny could have returned home, called the parents to inform them immediately, the parents then leaving work to discuss the matter further making the ultimate decision to call the police? Entirely so, but it doesn't make nearly as good a story...

Would anyone else pay ?65 for a Christmas Wreath?
KrackersMaracas replied to Beej's topic in The Lounge
They were being sold somewhere on archdale road to support Peckham food bank (not sure what prices were) - if I was inclined to spend lots of money on a wreath I'd go there. But to add - if you really like something and can afford it I don't see the problem with splurging every so often.... -
Great waxing in East Dulwich at The Beauty Haven!
KrackersMaracas replied to bee16's topic in Request a Tradesperson
A nice welcome and a good price but I didn't feel the wax I got here was thorough by any means. I'll think twice before returning. -
Possible stray cat Ulverscroft road
KrackersMaracas replied to CharlotteUlverscroft's topic in Lost, Found or Stolen
Pretty sure this isn't the first time I've seen such posts from believe. I think we should all give each other the benefit of the doubt - it's distressing if your cat goes missing and is kept in someone else's home (though surely better than some alternatives...). It's equally distressing to see a cat hungry and cold and not give it shelter. There is nothing to suggest this cat was "deprived of its liberty" by the OP. -
Oh yes - the lordship gets my vote! Nice food and very relaxed, good for a big group as well. I visited Yama Momo a few weeks ago and was singularly unimpressed with the food, the atmosphere and the price of the drinks- more than a whiff of emperors new clothes (or, perhaps, an off day- I left feeling no inclination to ever go back).

international accountancy experience for a "pensioner"?
KrackersMaracas replied to pato's topic in The Lounge
Yes that is right. If you wish to be a resident of a certain country and spend a significant proportion of your time there, why shouldn't you be taxed as a local would be? You'll find that different countries have different amounts of time you can spend locally to be counted as "resident" and that many individuals (Including jumpin' jack flash) closely monitor all time spent in the UK (and other countries) to make sure they never exceed a certain threshold. If you timed it well you could determine the local residency test in Spain and ensure you leave in a tax year where you will not have the necessary days residence in Spain to class as "local", thereby paying a full 20% on all earnings in e.g. 2016/17 tax year in the U.K. and then inform HMRC that you are severing all ties and start the 17/18 tax year in Spain as a local resident paying the full local rate of income tax. -

Any chance there could have another handle at one time - it looks a little like a quaich (although they are supposed to have 2 handles, not one) -
Heads up - Interesting threads in the main section
