  1. Bit too edgy for you DM? If you do Herne Hill I can recommend a good Guyanese place.
  2. Evidently Southwark are looking for more 'craft' stalls. Oh no. The market operates with the odd stall at other days in the week besides Saturday. Sparkes butcher is there at least three or four days. I can't imagine there would be 20-30 stalls 6 days a week, especially not craft ones. I would like to see Vietnamese food, Mexican food and other world cuisines.
  3. No one said anything about a daily basis.
  4. Do you mean Aspall? Hardly a secret. If you want a good choice of cider try the pub next to/on top of Denmark Hill Station.
  5. This place is worth a visit as it has had some very interesting food stalls every time I have gone. Last week there was a Hungarian couple selling langos. Kind of like a pizza except fried instead of baked. Choice of topping, including bacon, vegetables, cheese and sour cream. Most expensive was ?2. There was also a Vietnamese couple selling fresh summer rolls and different chicken and rice dishes. Summer roll - ?1.25 In the past I have noticed different sausage sellers, including a German one and an Italian one. Tried the Italian one - excellent. Also Arturo, of Buen Provecho fame, who sadly wasn't there last Sunday. He was the reason I went there last week. He is at Lower Marsh Market in Waterloo, Tuesdays to Fridays. There is also a new market opening the Elephant on Saturdays but not at the shopping centre. Run by the same people who run Peckham Sunday Market. Don't have the address but it is at a college - not sure which one though.
  6. Wonder who made the rule about MooTown not being able to sell baguettes? At Peckham Sunday Market there is only one bread seller now, Flour Power, but Blackbird used to be there also. They also used to be at the Dulwich College once a month market alongside the Celtic Bakery. Blackheath Sunday Market has about 4 different bakeries selling bread and cakes. Lovely choice. Edited to say = Mootown sells welsh cakes - presumbly that's ok then even though they have flour in them!
  7. The cafe in Peckham Rye Park. It's wall to wall.
  8. I think it quite dreary as it is. I like Cooper, the hot dog guy. The lady selling shea butter and other soaps is useful but I don't want that every week. The Blackbird Bakery stall to my mind has a monopoly as they already have a shop on Grove Vale. Wish they would be given some competition in the form of another bakery stall.
  9. I use the Shout spray for lots of stains prior to washing and find it very good.

    Strange bread.

Don't know how long it has been trading but at least a couple of years. It's located in the Blackheath Station car park. Free parking on Sunday. Market runs from 10 am - 2 pm.

Yes. It's an unneeded and rogue apostrophe. I like to switch up my vocabulary from time to time.

    Strange bread.

Flour Power Bakery is at the Peckham Sunday Market and they have a large choice of bread. 100% ryes, part ryes, white sourdough, spelt, cottage tins.....I also recommend the Blackheath Sunday Market which has at least 4 different bakeries selling their wares.

    Strange bread.

Re Blackbird bread - I too like the walnut and onion. I also like/liked the rosemary one. Haven't been in there in ages. They both make good toast the next day. Don't like their baguettes as they are strangely sweet and one of the wholemeal ones is also sweet.

I also bought some 'light' wholewheat flour on sale for about a quid.

    Strange bread.

Not in ED, but I bought some nice sourdough bread at Wholefoods in Kensington. They have a great bakery where you can try samples before you buy. Liked their fougasse.

Soda bread with smoked salmon and capers is divine.

    Strange bread.

It's also very easy to whip up a loaf of soda bread. No raising necessary. It helps to stock up on buttermilk first.
  18. Are you a journalist trawling for story fodder? Your heading has an unneeded apostrophe in it.

    Strange bread.

The Turkish shop on Forest Hill Road has a good selection of bread. If you venture to Herne Hill then try Kindred Bakery on Half Moon Lane. They have lovely granary bread and rolls. They used to supply the old Jack's Tea and Coffee House on Pellat Road. That is how I discovered them. Asked James where he got his bread from and he told me. I also like the healthy low GI bread from Ayre's Bakery in Nunhead.
  21. I have been inside one in Chatham in Kent. It was charming and spacious. Seemed like a bungalow to me. And they are detached. Fantastic.
  22. Sorry to hear about your burglaries. I have had two in the past, although not in this area. What kind of windows did you have? Do you think there is anything you can do to the windows to prevent this in the future? A neighbour in my street foiled someone trying to get into her front sash window.
  23. I hate chewing gum waste too but I never see people throwing it down on the street. It seems to magically appear as a messy stain on the pavement.
  24. Not ED, but the Florence pub doesn't allow children in the front bar, which is very spacious.
  25. Thanks for the support I have had on here. All litter is disgusting; especially litter associated with bodily functions. It's insulting to society to drop litter. Do something similar. Embarrass a litterer.
