It seems that burglars could still get in and out during the time it takes someone to arrive there. Would you call the police before or after arriving the property or haven't you thought that far ahead? Why not have it hooked up to the police station?
  2. Jacbuc, If you are away and the number rings your or someone else like a friend then what happens? I presume you have a keyholder to go and check on your house? I do know that if a burglar alarm goes off for over 30 minutes or so then the Environmental Health Dept. can be called and will come out and investigate and if necessary call out someone to turn off the alarm. The owner can then be fined if this happens repeatedly. Same thing with car alarms that don't turn themselves off.
  3. Lisa, I amended my recipe which shows what spices I use. It's not a 'mix' per se. I have looked at lots of different recipes available and my fave was a video on Youtube by a mother and daughter which is no longer there. I based my concoction on theirs. Good way to sneak vegetables into children.
  4. Kes, Don't forget the God botherers and scrap metal/rag and bone men. Insurance salespeople and people selling cleaning equipment also. That is why I don't open my door.

It was set off by accident one day and they turned up really fast. You have to pay extra per year for that. Otherwise what is the point in an alarm? Perhaps today's burglars wear ear defenders.
  6. DJKQ, What about the backs of houses? The person who had their window taken out was at the back of the house? And how are these people bypassing alarms? It would be useful to know.
  7. Very terrifying. Do you mean Dulwich Park? Was anyone else around? Your friend should report it to the police. They take this very seriously thank goodness as it can escalate to something else. Hopefully your friend can give a description which could help find him.
  8. Sorry to hear about your burglary. Really unpleasant. Would you mind saying what kind of security you had, and how they got in? Are you in a flat and they got through the main door etc? If you were alarmed, then was it hooked up to the police station and is there a keyholder? Thanks.
  9. I like the sound of those. Sloppy Joes in our family. For 500 g of Minced beef, 1 chopped onion, finely chopped carrot if liked, finely chopped green, red or yellow pepper, finely chopped garlic if liked (but add when browning mince so it doesn't burn) tomato sauce, like a tube of paste, and carton of passata, (could use ketchup instead) water, and a pack of seasoning which is unavailable here so I add my own spices. See following:- Cook onion/carrot/pepper in small amount of oil, add mince, brown, drain fat then add tomato sauce and paste, some water and ground cumin, dash or to taste of mild chili powder, paprika, white or cider vinegar, worcester sauce, salt, pepper, bit of sugar, and American mild mustard or you could use dry mustard powder and if you have't used fresh garlic. I also add a bit of molasses, or you could use treacle. Add tabasco or chili sauce if you like it hot it is probably better to add those to individual portions. Keep tasting. It should taste slightly sharp and tomatoey, a bit like a mild chili, and the sugar/molasses can bring the sharpness down so it tastes a bit like barbecue sauce. You could always add that if you don't have molasses. It should be like a thick bolognese sauce, you can add more water and cook it down. Serve on lightly toasted hamburger buns accompanied by crisps and perhaps a dill pickle. Very messy but delicious. I serve with extra American mustard and chopped onions. Can also add grated cheese on top. Can be eaten with hands very messily or use knife and fork.
  10. I know the term pikey, however I am not sure what seeming a bit of "pikey" means. Is it someone dressed in a certain way? Dirty and greasy looking? Badly nourished appearance?

  13. Susan Hunter, How do you know where the dogs you have 'picked out' live? Does someone follow them home first? What is SASBU? Do you DNA test dogs to see if they are pit-bull, or part pit or any of the other banned breeds?
  14. I'm in the north of Goose Green area.

But the people sitting opposite will be launched at those sitting in the rear facing seats.

The pilot started last week and the next green bin collection is next Thursday. But the food waste and recycling will be collected. My green bin used to be collected on a Wednesday and then the recycling on a Thursday. Garden waste was every other week.
  18. What about just showing and teaching your kids good old fashioned good manners for someone who is older than you, and has likely been working and commuting for longer than you have been on the earth? There are far more older kids on the buses nowadays at all hours due to the free passes available.
  19. I'm not talking about small children. They can and should go on laps if the bus is crowded. Like Narnia said - how do you define kids. Up to 16 or 18 ? What age is the free bus travel up to? 16?
  20. Are you talking about yourself - we sit with them at the back? - and then 'adults (fit and well) get off yours (what? arses?)- because I don't understand what you posted. Or are you making some sort of generalization about what other bus riding parents think?
  21. Eh what?
  22. James, has the South London press or The Standard done anything on this yet? Might help Southwark to collect their thoughts a bit.
  23. Like Loz above, I thought the general idea was no paying, no sitting. It's general good manners to give up your seat/your child's seat for an adult of course, but those aren't in evidence a lot of the time.
  24. Yes, it is owned by the artist guy who did the mosaic tiling outside the Blue Mountain.
  25. Sue, the less you open your door the fewer moths you will have!
