Was told by a trader in Melbourne Grove that the owner of It Mirto does read this Forum. At the moment I am venting and canvassing opinion.
  2. Wouldn't it be fun to be able to do on the spot fines when seeing people do this stuff? Kind of like a citizen's arrest! A few weeks ago I threw a butt back into someone's front garden after she threw it out onto the pavement right in front of where I was walking. Very satisfying.

  4. Kid Kruger, they weren't in Goose Green, they were at the playground which is next to Locale which has toilets. I wonder how amenable they are to kids using their loos. Anyone know? They crossed the road to use the grass in the park instead of using the gutter which I thought was more usual. My main problem was with the mother throwing the tissue she used to wipe her kid on the ground. I am curious as to why parents don't bring portable loos with them like Pickle mentioned especially when they are at places like playgrounds. Dorothy, it seems extremely odd that a toy shop wouldn't let a child use their loo! How utterly bizarre.

    Cool fashion

I love Mad Men. I love looking at the clothes. But women had to wear girdles in those days. It's a step too far.
  6. Hopefully James Barber can do something about it.

  8. Pickle, thank you for your very useful and informative post. Did you say anything to the woman in the Sydenham park? How revolting!
  9. There are portable potties for little ones.
  10. I am hoping that these businesses (and others) read this thread and provide ashtrays for their staff. Or perhaps Southwark can send their litter patrol people along and levy fines. In the case of the solicitor office, they do have a wall one which isn't often used. I did ask a woman who was smoking outside that office why she had disposed of her butt on the ground and she declared it was because it was biodegradable! Really? Since when? She obviously realized how stupid that sounded and she then picked it up from the gutter where she had thrown it and put it in the wall mounted tray. It is pretty gross to see food workers smoking outside but I am hopeful that they do wash their hands afterwards.
  11. If the workers can't eat inside.....? Do be quiet Sean. This isn't about smoking, it's about disposal of the butts. You are adding precisely nothing to my thread.
  12. Maybe this should be in the businesses section - I am not sure. I am going to post the names of several local businesses whose employees throw their cigarette butts on the pavement and in the gutter and leave them there. One is Il Mirto on Melbourne Grove. Their employees are frequently outside smoking and they then throw them into the gutter where they stay there until a street sweeper comes along. Why not provide a sand ashtray outside? The new estate agent - Keatings - opposite the station also has a male employee smoking to the side of the agency and across the street (opposite the flats) where he throws his butts on the ground. The solicitors on the corner of Melbourne Grove and Grove Vale has a gaggle of people outside smoking and casting their butts aside despite having an ashtray on the wall. Melbourne Grove Surgery has employees either outside there or further down the street beyond Il Mirto doing the same thing. Anyone want to add to this list and name and shame? Southwark Council could make a killing in fines if they staked out these areas. Smokers, carry a portable ashtray please.
  13. Today I saw a woman let her small daughter, aged about 3, have a pee on Goose Green by the entrance closest to the playground. She wiped her daughter and then threw the tissue on the ground. She was on her way to the gate and I shouted to her to pick up her litter. The bin was all of 4 feet away from her. I must have pricked her conscience because she eventually did pick it up. She was a light skinned black woman wearing a greyish/green short jacket with her hair twisted on top of her head with sunglasses perched on top of her hair. Her daughter was dressed in a pink outfit with trousers. This was about 1 pm. She and the kid went straight back to the playground. So if that was you you lazy mare I hope you were and are embarrassed. I know there was another thread on this somewhere and I thought that if your child had to go when out it was usual to use the gutter or drain. What do other parents do when at the playground and their kids have to go?
  14. They can control them a lot more if they didn't let me out at all hours. And have a litter tray.
  15. Have you spoken to the neighbour? Do they let the cat out the front because they don't have a garden? I am pretty sure cats don't like citrus scents so orange peel might help. The slate chips do sound a good idea. I have small pebbles in my front garden and subsequently don't have any cats coming in. But I do have foxes leaving the odd deposit.
  16. Bad luck. I very stupidly once left my handbag in the child seat section of a supermarket trolley, turned away for 15 seconds or so to look at a shelf and it disappeared containing everything including house keys. I now always have it across my body. Like you said, lesson learnt. I also know of an elderly lady who had her purse taken from the bottom of her wheeled shopping trolley in a Boots. A lot of people also seem to leave their handbags on chairs in shoe shops while they try on shoes. Have been in shoe shops when bags have been stolen.

  22. Not sure what the point of the question is. You seem to be saying that you have the misfortune to come from an area in which you can't afford to buy what you want to live in. How often do you think that this happens? Where does it say that this should be possible? Life isn't fair. Have you moved to ED because you can afford to buy here?
  23. GG Don't understand the Brands Hatch ref. Cruising cars looking for George? Or George cruising in a fast car?
  24. Gawd no. Maybe he did on purpose so he could be sent to jail and have an experience! Closer availability instead of having to trawl the Heath.
  25. He went down immediately - no time to go home and pack a suitcase. He'll have had his full body search by now - Oooh matron! What an arrogant twit.
