  1. How do you go to Gatwick if you do the train? From Victoria or do you go to East Croydon?
  2. Thanks Jeremy. Their Gatwick prices seem a bit all over the place though. Cheaper from W10 than from SE15.
  3. Yes, who does ?35 taxis now? Used to pay that a few years back.
  4. Ask and you might get it.
  5. I am with them as well and find them generally really good. Why don't you call them when you aren't at work and tell them how upset you are. They can deliver a cash card to the most convenient HSBC branch near to where you work/will be. I have had them do that for me. They always ring me on my mobile and leave messages there.
  6. I would like to ask Will at the Palmerston why the side dishes for the set lunch are extra. Went there recently and had to pay extra for vegetables. The set lunch at The Herne includes a side dish of chips in the case of the hamburger. I wanted the fish on the menu at the Palmerston and the one advertised had finished so was offered sea bass. It was good but the portion was tiny. I only had two courses, starter and entree, and went home hungry which has never happened at The Herne when I have their set 2 course lunch. I looked on the Palmerston website recently and the menus have not been updated since April. The prices for the side dishes are also lower than they are now. But the cost for the set lunch has gone down by 50p. So set lunch price down, but side orders up. Surely a set lunch should mean necessary side dishes should come with the main dish as necessary ie fish and new potatoes; steak and chips.

  8. Based on all the good reviews the new pizza place in Melbourne Grove is getting, lots of Palmerston customers will be decamping there.
  9. Re Oliver Thring - Anyone can write anything they like on Twitter. Helen/Food Stories wouldn't be responsible for that. The comment was very stupid though although he has since said that he will be going to the Palmerston and giving it a fair review. He should apologise though.
  10. The only time I got chips in there they were awful. It put me off going again. Hottish ones were thrown on top of cold ones.
  11. Had a set lunch in there last week but it didn't include vegetables! ?3.50 for a portion of Jersey Royals. ?11 for the 2 course set meal there, ?10 at The Herne and they includes veggies/sides. The portion of fish I had at the Palmerston was rather small, but good. I am in no rush to go back esp. not for anything a la carte.

  13. Sue What I meant was I hope that I get asked in the future what I want in my salad. It may sound bizarre but I really was thrilled. I think they are still learning the ropes. It might also matter as to how busy they are. It wasn't packed when I was there, but then filled up. As I said in a previous posting, they told me the first time I went there that they wanted customer feedback. So go give it to them!
  14. I have twice ordered a lime juice and soda with a meal at The Herne and the drink was only 40p. I was very impressed as have been charged up to about ?1.70 in other places.
  15. It was unusual being asked what I wanted in my salad but delightful. One of the perks of them owning the greengrocers next door. Hope it happens every time! It might depend on who is serving you but I hope not.
  16. Had a salad in there along with some stuffed mushrooms recently. Was asked what I wanted in my salad and so I gave a list of ingredients including basil. The lady serving me went next door to the greengrocer to get anything she didn't have. The concoction was delicious and served at more or less room temp. so you could taste everything properly. A huge bottle of creamy well seasoned dressing was brought to me along with the undressed salad.

The shop always had a slightly musty smell to it and I wondered if he ever sold much from it.
  19. I've only had coffee there but have had a chat with various people involved with it. They said they want suggestions about what to serve. So they would welcome any complaints/queries/suggestions. They seemed very eager to find out what their customers are looking for.
  20. I heard it was also supposed to be opening at 6 am in order to feed the hoards of builders who used to go to the previous cafe.
  21. Anyone suffering withdrawal symptoms from not having a Waitrose here should go to Beckenham. There is a Waitrose next to the station. There is also an M&S. Both have good parking. I love the Waitrose free range ready cooked chicken for a fast meal.
  22. Kids under 12 aren't supposed to go on it. I saw loads of 3/4 year olds the other climbing and using stuff without any supervision.
  23. Anything by Richard Ford, especially The Sportswriter.
  24. I can't recommend a hotel, but can recommend an area - the Marais. Lots going on. I also recommend looking at the website davidlebovitz.com. He's a Paris based chef/baker and has a fantastic website with recipes, shopping, inc. a very good market in the 4th on Sunday, and restaurants.
  25. The Bishop has a couple of power points and I have just had coffee in there.
