  1. Are you the Forum Police now? 😅
  2. "Broken windows" By allowing cyclists to travel faster than the speed limit, and with modern road bikes weighing less than a fly it's actually easy to go over 20mph, then cyclists feel the speed limit or rules don't apply to them, which leads to the broken window effect where they push the boundaries of what they can get away with, jumping lights because "it takes momentum to stop and start", riding over crossings, cycling on pavements, not having clear lights on at night... By simply applying the same rules to all road users, I.e. obey the speed limit, it might start to curb other bad behavior thus making roads safer for all. I'll ask a question of those who oppose it, and I asked it a few days ago on a different way, why are you so determined not to have the same rules applied to all? Is it because you consider yourselves rebels who can do what you want or simply because you yourselves know you don't stick to the rules ?
  3. Looks like the "cost" of licencing cyclists could no longer be a factor as this goverent is about to introduce digital driving licences. BBC News - UK set to introduce digital driving licences https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cgkjjkjy4p8o They could simply add a category for cyclists and bobs your auntie, digital cycling licence... although I can see the argument now about this becoming our digital id card....
  4. Malumbu and his cycling friends look on with blinkers clearly not seeing the cyclists of East Dulwich behaving badly
  5. If you have a mobile phone then you are already capable of being tracked using your relative location to phone masts or your WiFi usage. On top of that a lot of cyclists use gps apps to track their route and speeds. Most people make sure their phone battery lasts the day so technically it's not a radical shift, privacy laws not withstanding, for your movement and speed to be tracked by your phone, be it on foot, car or bike. Big brother is already here 😅
  6. I think from the discussion here alone that your statement is poppycock and fantasy A good case for licencing is simply to stop antisocial behaviour but I guess when cars are less prevalent on thw roads, government and councils will look to make up financial shortfalls from ved, ltns, traffic fines and tax on fuel / ipt and purchase price, so that alone may force them into licencing. Getting rid of cars is not a zero sum game
  7. I am assumimg that those most vocal about not licencing cyclists are all perfectly well behaved cyclists who never bend the rules, so why the uproar as these measures wouldn't be aimed at you? Or do you all have habits that it would expose?
  8. Let's debunk that snowy To drive a vehicle you need a licence that shows you have pased a test to drive. Cars carry registration plates and the owner is deemed responsible unless they can prove someone else was driving it. Same principle should apply to bikes so it's not cyclists that need identification plates but the bike and like a car driver cyclists should be licenced.
  9. Yes, authorities do have the rights to stop and fine cyclists, but the big issue there is how do they enforce it. Wardens or police at every crossing? Impractical and costly, stopping cyclists when they see it, short of being able to catch them and talk to them it's almost impossible. Cameras, like the ones used for motor vehicles, only practical if cyclists can be identified so that means licencing and registration plates. Cost wise, like all schemes, it will pay for itself in registration fees and penalties. But yet again you want to push the narrative that cyclists should be above the law and it's not worth regulating them.
  10. It's not about risk, but controlling anti social behaviour Currently, and I use the phrase lightly, the "lycra louts" believe they are above the law and can jump lights, cycle on pavements and ride as fast as they can. Licencing and some form of identifying mark will give authorities powers to prosecute anti social cyclist behaviour thus making it better for all road users and pedestrians, but of course yet again you throw the whatabout cars into the argument. Let's face it a large propotlrtion of British cyclists are seen as a special breed of arrogant and it makes it dangerous for other road users and pedestrians so maybe we need to buck the trend and licence them.
  11. Please provide evidence that it would be the case if cyclists are licenced rather than speculate. I am guessing you won't be able to and you are just throwing speculation into the argument to support that cyclist should be above the law.
  12. Beautiful speculation Earl Why would licencing cause an decrease ? If anything it might increase numbers as more nervous cyclists feel safer knowing the aggressive/bad cyclists can be identified, caught and controlled from cycling badly. Could be a win win for all, but I now wait your response saying cyclists are special cases and shouldn't be regulated.
  13. The better choice would have been to raise employee NI back to the pre cut level thereby taxing those who work and can afford it without pushing up prices for everyone. But stupidly "there will be no tax increase on working people" which is why it's disastrous in my mind.
  14. The disastrous decision by Rachel Theives to increase employer NI thereby pushing up costs to businesses resulting in higher prices is my guess
  15. Just don't buy the chocolate covered anchovies Only because it's wrong on so many fronts
  16. The first rule of LTN Fight club is ... everyone talks about LTN fight club on the EDF. I hope it's a "dance fight" but agree no singing. We could all meet in the Crown and Greyhound back room, away from prying eyes, except it's not so easy to drive to these days 😅
  17. Feels like, regardless of what they say and what residents want, we will get a CPZ as it suits the council agenda.
  18. It's -40 points today obviously the market is reacting well 😅
  19. Possibly at the time most people did it, with grants from the government, the long term issues were just emerging so research may have thrown up the odd one or two problems but not the general recommendation not to use it...
  20. Labours head of communications really should be advising Kier better. We've had, so far, the budget will be bad, we've inherited a 20 billion black hole, the NHS is broken, and today "Britain isn't working" in relation to jobs and apprenticeships Whilst honesty is a good thing, there are better ways of wording things Negativity drives negativity in situations like this, especially in business and businesses are what labour requires to grow the economy and offer jobs to the unemployed. It does feel like Captain Kier has turned into Private Frazer crying "we're all doomed"
  21. I had to look it up but 4.1 million people signed a petition for second brexit referendum if there was a narrow margin. The data is from 2017 so there may be bigger petitions since. https://www.itv.com/news/2017-01-31/petitions-what-are-the-10-most-signed-and-what-have-they-achieved
  22. From memory, I believe there were people talking for one, and after Liz and Rishi took the reigns as well....
  23. Take your labour blinkers off sir, Businesses are cutting hiring, prices will go up and new businesses won't start all as a result in the NI hike for employers Talking down the country pre budget also knocked consumer confidence Tomorrow labour are goung to announce getting young people into education or employment, yet with the above where will those jobs come from ? The three people who sent the pertition to me are all small business owners who are taking the brunt of the changes introduced in the budget, one is even talking about closing as it impacts margins so heavily. This is why people are unhappy. Labour hog tied themselves by promising no tax rises on working people and now the economy is suffering. Take the red pill sir, not the blue one.
  24. Thankfully Sephiroth, you aren't in charge because if you were, like Captain Kier, you too would be ignoring the warning signs and carry on steering the ship into an iceberg. Trying to dismiss nearly 2 million people, all of whom had to verify their email address, as "a bit unstable" is low even for you. Face the facts, it's not anti labour rethoric , it's a genuine concern that the government are making poor decisions for the economy and country.
  25. The point is Seph, that if I was in charge of the government, even if it has no hope, it would be making me wonder why people were signing . Especially if it gets much bigger. Who knows, maybe there will be a reshuffle at the top.
