  1. Whilst Israel has the right to defend itself, with the ICJ today issuing a dramatic ruling, ordering Israel to "immediately halt its military offensive in Rafah" and Israel signalling it would ignore any order to halt its operation, are they in danger of losing all support for their plight and turning the world against them? It does feel like the suffering they went through over the centuries is just being applied to their rivals for land and you would have hoped they would have been more sympathetic to others plight. Whilst the actions if Hamas were wrong, it doesn't justify what is going on to the people of Gaza at the moment.
  2. There is nothing silly about trying to prenent accidents and making people accountable for their actions, but obviously you don't think that way and serm to emphasise that cyclists should be above the law It's about time that you realised that they aren't and pedestrians need protecting from them as much as cyclists need protecting from cars. Bring back compulsory cycling proficiency test for all kids before they can cycle to school I say.
  3. Don't be silly John, this will be the new PM (his policies make as much sense as anyones)
  4. What's a shape shifting anti lTN body ? The Dulwich Society, like the One Dulwich and other groups represents the views of some of the residents but not all and each has their place at the table and not one of them should be more important than another. Personally I don't give a hot who is and who isn't anonymous, everyone can decide whobthey want to know about their actions IMHO
  5. A nice pro cycling article from a pro cyclist by the way it is written. Ultimately every road user, including cyclists, should obey the rules so the new law won't actually have any effect, apart from the odd cyclist who breaks the rules. But back to reality, from experience, cyclists don't obey the rules, with the odd one stopping at lights or not riding on the footpath, and whilst the new law maybe unproportional to deaths, surly preventing even one pedestrian death is a good thing. Or do you disagree @malumbu ? Why are the cycling lobby so inflamed by this new law? It's there to prevent accidents and save a few more lives so if they are all cycling sensibly there should be no problem, but it's seen as an assault on freedom of cycling. Obviously it isn't, no one is being told not to cycle, just that if they cause a death or serious injury then there are consequences. So why the angst dear cyclists ?
  6. @malumbu that's the whole point of where this discussion started, cyclists on footpaths, which as we clearly know, is illegal yet cyclists still use them.
  7. @Hen123 you really don't seem to have a grasp of conversational English yet, three times you have asked me the same question and three times I have given you the simple answer of I don't know yet three times you have failed to comprehend it. Multiple times I have asked you a simple "yes" / "no" question which is "Do you think all road users should obey ALL the rules?" But you are incapable of answering it. You are starting to sound lile a cheap knock off first gen AI Troll bot. However, as that's what I believe you are, I will put this into French, just incase your developer wrote you in the international language of cyclists who all believe they are in the Tour De France "Pensez-vous que tous les usagers de la route devraient respecter TOUTES les règles ?" If you fail to answer this time, then I conclude your computer programming says "No" and no further input from you is of any consequence to me or this discussion concerning poor cycling practices.
  8. @Hen123 still avouding answering the question on why you think cyclists are above the law.🫣 As stated before , and I will put this simply because you seem to be struggling to comprehend, "I don't know how to enforce the rules" However, and again simply speaking, "I believe everyone should obey them" Blimey, if you struggle understanding simple statements then I suspect the highway code is a real challenge for you to comprehend 🤣
  9. @Hen123 I will repeat my answer as you seem to be having a few difficulties comprehending it (maybe the flashes from all those special cameras has blinded you 😉 ) Quote My simple answer, as I stated before is that everyone should obey the rules, as to how that's enforced is not my area of expertise Maybe it's yours @Hen123 in which case you tell us how you would make sure everyone obeys the rules to make everyone safe, including cyclists and drivers! Unquote You will note that I haven't said car drivers are above the law or nor can I.provide a simple solution. Now back to the question at hand, why do you think cyclists should be above the law, surly one set of rules for all is the best policy or are cyclists special in your eyes ? If you avoid answering the question again, then it's a simple conclusion that you don't agree. Avoidance is not an answer 😐
  10. I liked the bit In your article that said. “The statistics provide insights into speeds at which drivers choose to travel when free to do so,” says the DfT, adding that they are “not representative of the level of speeding across the whole road network, which we would expect to be lower.” And "RAC Report on Motoring 2022 asked users to select up to three reasons why they exceed the speed limit for each road class. On roads with 20mph limits, the top reason for exceeding the speed limit was “speed limit being inappropriate for the road,” which was cited by 47% of 20mph road users" 🤔 As @alice clearly pointed out, this is about cyclists not motorists. Your refusal to answer the question is showing that you clearly don't think cyclists should obey the rules, fair play on you, in that case why should motorists ? My simple answer, as I stated before is that everyone should obey the rules, as to how that's enforced is not my area of expertise Maybe it's yours @Hen123 in which case you tell us how you would make sure everyone obeys the rules to make everyone safe, including cyclists and drivers!
  11. Ahhhh, @malumbu yet again you try and twist the truth. you muat be despetate 🤣 The consultation is about local authorities not keeping excess profits from fines, it is NOT about taking control of local roads away from them. 4/10 must try harder
  12. @Hen123 you still aren't saying if you support everyone obeying the rules. Why is that ?
  13. @Hen123 please show us your workings to arrive at 85% or is that purly your opinion ? if opinions count then why do 2000% of all cyclists in my opinion flout the rules ? Ps as I said earlier, it's about everybody obeying all the rules Not just one set of people or the other but you don't seem to want to agree to that.
  14. @Hen123 it's quite a simple proposition ALL road users ahould obey ALL rules in the highway code and there would be less issues or are you saying that cyclists are excempt from the rules as in your opinion it is mostly car drivers breaking them? We can't have one rule for some and different rules for others as that would make us all Tories 🤣
  15. Thanks Alice It is a laugh out loud moment as Mal cries, it's not me , I'm a good cyclists so all cyclists must be good. Face it @malumbu the majority of them realy don't seem to care about anyone else on the road. As I have pointed out earlier, if everyone obeyed the rules, there would be less issues. But your view appears to be "cyclists good, cars bad" and you are so blinkered as alice said that you can't see the tarmac for the mud in your eyes
  16. Open call for evidence Restricting the generation of surplus funds from traffic contraventions https://www.gov.uk/government/calls-for-evidence/restricting-the-generation-of-surplus-funds-from-traffic-contraventions Open till May 25th. Please review and comment if this interests you
  17. Love good studies NOT done with British cyclists, it's a bit lile saying because Germans are well behaved on holiday, every nation is well behaved! There is a particular idiosyncratic way that cyclists here behaved compare to places like Holland or Denmark. Maybe go out and observe how things really are rather than trying to dismiss genuine concerns of pedestrians over floating bus stops and people cycling on footpaths.
  18. More disproportionate measures Mal ? BBC News - Wandsworth: Cycle speed on Thames Path to be reduced for safety - BBC News https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cg303j4142mo
  19. Looks like they are rebuilding and reconfiguring to make better use of the space
  20. As I pointed out Mal, if cyclists acted correctly, didn't flount the rules and gained respect from other road users, then maybe accidents would be reduced and everyone would be happier, but if feels like you are convinced that cyclists are never in the wrong and vehicle drivers are 100% responsible for all collisions. There may be more cyclists and pedestrians killed or injured by drivers, but remember there are already rules in place for drivers so why should cyclists not adhere to the same rules and penalties? Or do you disagree and think rules and penalties shouldn't apply to all? Everyone should obey the rules and the highway code to make it safer for all.
  21. Is it disproportionate? Focusing on bad cycling may make cyclists take a less aggressive stance on the road, which in turn may make them more cautious at crossings and red lights which could result in less accidents involving cyclists. Equally, their change in attitude may be picked up by motorists who will start to respect them more resulting in better tolerance, maybe less accidents and ultimately everyone benefits. Small changes can make a big difference 😁
  22. Do the two white lines represent a zebra crossing, where pedestrians have right of way ? Highway code rule 19 Drivers and riders should give way to pedestrians waiting to cross and MUST give way to pedestrians on a zebra crossing (see Rule H2).

  25. I'm sorry Mal, there was nothing in Ted's post that mentioned pesky cyclists, he was simply drawing a parallel between southwarks desire for more cycling and not enough safe and secure storage Your ability to twist the ordinary into weird hyperbolic rants knows no bounds at times. Maybe you should have gone to the opticians (you know the one) before replying 😉
