West Dulwich LTN Action Group - needs your support
Spartacus replied to Rashmipat's topic in Roads & Transport
Interesting The RAC Report is actually debunking the myth that electric vehicles are producing higher levels of brake and tyre emissions. The road noise report is easy to debunk if we all go electric, as they are so much quieter than petrol or diesel cars. The impact of traffic jams is about the only point that sort of stands on its own two feet, however with modern technology (jam avoidance map systems) and the potential of the introduction of self driving cars, i suspect it's only a short lived argument. -

Explain your rational for wanting a reduction in car journeys. If it's purely pollution then in a few years that won't be an issue as we should all be driving electric vehicles. If its reducing collisions and accidents, again technology is starting to remove that risk. So what's your main drive to reduce car journeys ? -
Personally, there's something fishy going on here 😅

ULEZ expansion ruled lawful by High Court
Spartacus replied to megalaki84's topic in Roads & Transport
That's a good point @Penguin68 Post covid, working patterns have changed so that may have had some impact over the past 4 years. Equally the implementation of LTNs may also be a factor in the 40% drop (not just the ULEZ) As said, it would be good to see the series from 2019btill now to see if the second year was a random result or not and what has happened since otherwise saying a 40% drop but not knowing if it was sustained is a misleading statement @malumbu I agree, if more kids are walking or cycling then its good for their health, but if more kids ate swapping cars for bises, not so healthy (this is focusing on exercise and obesity) but equally a reduction in school runs isn't a bad thing environmentally -
ULEZ expansion ruled lawful by High Court
Spartacus replied to megalaki84's topic in Roads & Transport
That's what i would have assumed, however the report says "The researchers collected data from the period June 2018 to April 2019, prior to ULEZ implementation, and again in the period June 2019 to March 2020, the year after implementation of the ULEZ but prior to COVID-19-related school closures." Obviously there might have been some impact during the latter months, but to exclude that it would still be helpful to see comparisons against the last 3 years compared to the 2019 base line. The danger is they are doing a one year later comparison rather than showing an ongoing trend so the report, whilst interesting, may not paint the full picture. -

I read that report Earl Interesting that the second comparison coveted the 2020 period when covid hit and we went into lockdowns. Not sure if it had an impact on children not using cars or not. Would be interesting to also see a similar comparison with last year's figures and this year's figures against the baseline to see if the reduction has been maintained or if parents have now switched to ulez compliant cars and back to their old habits. -

If its only about pollution then won't the government drive to make all vehicles electric resolve that in a few years ? Stop banging that drum.as we all know it's more about removing private ownership of vehicles than pollution -
Dulwich Village CPZ Statutory Consultation
Spartacus replied to Charles Martel's topic in Roads & Transport
Ahhh the old consultation is not a referendum (unless its in my favour) line However as Southwark previously said that they won't impose CPZs unless there is clear demand from residents then a consultation is a referendum. Unless of course the council have been talking us whoppers 😅 -
Did I say anything about brexit ? I was simply pointing out that it was predictions and based on his available information at the time. Predictions are never realistic or normally accurate I mean who could have predicted we wouldn't win the euros (again) or that Trump would run for president (again) or that Oasis would get together (again) 😉

He also failed to predict a global pandemic, a war in Ukraine or a global spike in energy prices 🤔

Just to point out, there 7 euro comment was made by a separate person to the person who said they voted leave and wanted to rejoin. Guess the EU will now know if criminals or other undesirables who are on their banned try and travel when they apply for an entry visa. I am assuming we do the same?

Whilst your statement concerning travel time is correct, there is also a factor of check in times to consider. City Airport is fairly quick from getting a ticket to standing at departure gate as security has a small flow through it, so you can save 30 plus minutes compared to traveling fron Stanstead or other London airports. Doesn't sound much but for busy business people it can make a difference on choosing which airport to fly from. I guess the real issue here is should we all reduce our travel for holidays, visiting family and work resulting in airport capacity reducing not increasing. Maybe less trips to south of France or Benidorm should be on the cards and make more use of the great British countryside for holidays 😀

In the February report from the council on the proposal, 50% plus of respondents said they didn't support the scheme (out of 900 responses) https://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/documents/s119294/Appendix 2 - Consultation report.pdf Hardly a dwindling number and their concerns do seem to have been largely ignored. Problem is Southwark find "reasons: to ignore them including "concerns that related to the wider traffic issues in the Dulwich area. " 🤔

One possibility is that it could be a food delivery driver but at the wrong address, had that occur a few times in the past

Blimey o'reily This really has moved from its intended purpose, promoting street parties as part of World car free day to anti southwarks anti car policy. Personally, I think we need to separate the two (southwark and world car free day) and concentrate on a simpler view. 1. Which roads are interested in hosting a street party ? 2. Has enough time been left to organise street parties? Let's be frank here, when we used to have "the big lunch" street parties no one really objected to roads being closed so the issue here seems to be that it is associated with a car free day. I agree with other posters that Southwark has expressed an opinion about removing all privately owned cars but let's not mistake that as the sole reason for a street party, the two things are separate and its not about kids playing in the streets in general but streets getting together to party. Surely not a bad thing after covid locked us all up for ages and reconnecting with Mrs Miggens down the street who lost her husband is a good thing after all. I fear if we drive this down the anti car road any further it will get moved to the transport section rather than being a place to discuss the good things that come out of street parties.

If you are going to post links behind pay walls, can you cut and copy the text into your post so that it can be read and put your post in context?

Lol I take its the city of, and not the residents of Melbourne Grove......

Have you noticed how people like Billy all have the same MO, they find something insignificant to pick at, and keep picking at it until the original poster gets bored of their games all the while trying to make the poster look stupid and twist their words, yet not once do they answer direct questions put to them that challenge their beliefs. It's like they have all been issued a rule book of engagement. It's a pity that the same rules book doesn't contain the rules of safe sociable cycling because if ot did, we would all get along a heck of a lot better. I would also like to add, Billy I'm bored of you now, go play with someone who gives a damn about your games. Although that's possibly a solitary sport.

I used to have deliveries from the now defunct Yeh Wa on Barry Road, always excellent, and since they shut down many years ago when the landlord first wanted to develop the site, I've been using 148 Having spent time in China, whilst they have westernised the menu, it is far from poor or mediocre, so it could simply be that ordering on an extremely busy night, just before they close for their summer holidays didn't result in the best experience. As said, there are better, more authentic Chinese resturants where ducks tongue is served, but locally I would say 148 does a damn fine job, always quick to deliver, uses their own drivers (not pay a massive cut to justuber ) and are normally very helpful, nice staff. So rather than everyone jump on one person's poor review and try and bury them, why not as Sue says, give them a go when they are back and maybe you will be pleasantly surprised. .

I clearly gave you my answer already, and I also explained the balance as in removing all bus lanes is idiotic as is removing all parking. That way is a sure fire killer for our already fragile shopping areas. Currently across London, with the exception of where bus lanes have been turned into cycle lanes, everything is in balance. Now why won't you answer the point about if bus lanes are oh so sacred, then why do you seem to accept removing them to make cycle lanes.. Either they are or they aren't important, no halfway house Billy, as you are just using tactics seen so many times of failing to answer and honing in in a minor detail. So over to you, if bus lanes are so important, do you agree or disagree that passenger journey times for mass transit systems should be sacrificed for cyclists benefit?

Have you actually engaged with those who are less able than you or have additional needs or are you just spinning your wheels making opinions without facts As someone who has considerable mobility challenges, I have a fairly good insight to the issues, where as you obviously don't and what is a slight inconvenience for you could be a major hurdle for others. Absolutely fed up with ableism on here by people like you. So your challenge, get strapped into a wheelchair for a week, you can borrow my spare , and without getting out of the chair for any reason, including getting on and off transport, goung to the loo and eating out (imagine the fun of finding your curry house toilets are downstairs only), try and navigate your life, and only then come back and say its all easy to get around. Your first challenge get a train out of Peckham Rye and travel to Stratford.
