I love the spin "A consultation isn't a referendum" which is often cited but I think it comes with a sub text of "unless its in favour of what I want"

Currently Uber are conducting tests with a safety driver behind the wheel in London. Uner hopes to do a full trial next year without the safety driver needed in the cars. I personally think its got the potential for mass job loses in the industry, and an example of how a company is changing an industry. It started by pitching itself against small taxi firms by offering lower cost to consumers and when it won a large share of the market, it starts to look at how to reduce its costs even more by removing the driver but not passing those cost savings on to consumers. Are we sacrificing livelihoods for our own convenience? Would you personally use a driverless taxi ?

I wonder if Lambeth will refund all fines generated by it as it was deemed to be implemted illegally? My million quid is on that they won't and another court case or group action claim.

Replace that with loss of economic growth from the sales of new cars , parts services and associated taxes , should car ownership be reduced to suit the agenda you promote, would be far more costly to the country than the congestion costs you mention.

According to an article in the Telegraph this morning, Lambeth had their appeal rejected and according to the article "A Labour council has been ordered to immediately scrap an “unlawful” low-traffic neighbourhood (LTN) after losing a High Court battle." Later the article goes on to say "The West Dulwich Action Group (WDAG), which brought the case after claiming the street closures had increased traffic and pollution on roads bordering the zone, welcomed the ruling and called for the council to repay the £1,080,580 in fines raised through the scheme." As yet not seen anything to collaborate this article so taking it with a pinch of road salt

Still, this is nothing compared to the chaos of the next round of works if Southwark decide to put the bus lanes in on Peckham Rye. I can just believe that won't be quick or at a time that is convenient (school summer holidays would be ideal as fewer bus commuters then) An old adage comes to mind, failing to plan is planning to fail

For what Mal ? If our MP works with the council to spread out roadworks that aren't emergency ones then surly there isn't a cost. After all even these gas works aren't emergency, but planned maintenance, the ones by ED station aren't emergency works, nor are the ones by grove tavern so I can't see a need for a massive cash injection, can you ?
