  1. I would'nt go locally I'd go to Maria Tash in Liberty..it'll be more expensive but they will do a good job and its their buisness not a 'sideline' to other beauty offerings. https://www.mariatash.com/store-locations/maria-tash-london-liberty?srsltid=AfmBOoqMz7Ev-4YqzrlkePX0n3i5JbiggGYSR9kU5z1p_ajP_jjQKqlt I have no experience of piercing at Polished but I went in to enquire about a manicure and I found the staff attitude pretty rude, looking me up and down when I walked in and just giving off a bad attitude like they just could'nt be bothered maybe because I'm not a glam 30 something? I dont know.
  2. I'm pretty sure I saw him today near the junction of Lordship Lane and Dulwich common standing by the crossing near the entrance to the woods. Wearing a black trench coat , black trousers and dark timberland style boots his clothes looked somewhat worn and he was looking pretty wild eyed..I was in a car going by and I noticed him standing by the kerb looking somewhat aggrivated. other women please be aware
  3. I'm London born and bred and have always considered myself streetwise having grown up in Notting hill (pre getrification) and I lived on the border of Harlesden (kensal green) in the 90's when it was pretty sketchy round there .and I spent much of the 80's and early 90's in downtown New York.. I would walk everywhere at all hours of the day and night and never felt particularly uneasy largely because I was always mindful of my surroundings and walked with 'purpose'. I don't know wether its because I'm now so much older but I don't feel as comfortable as I used to walking round London. Today I was in the West end and I made sure to carry my bag on the opposite arm to that facing the kerb and felt uneasy when I saw people wizzing around on limebikes or scooters close to the kerb..I never got my phone out at all...I never used to feel like this but just recently I've had friends witness phone and bag snatching in central london in broad daylight..apparently it happened so fast in both instances there was nothing anyone could do to help..One phone snatching was during the tube strike 7.30am two guys on bikes grabbed a mans phone..My friend took the victim to a nearby hotel to sit down and recover the hotel said due to the tube strike they had witnessed many duo's of youth out very early on bikes aware that there were more pedestrians around at that time with their phones out trying for Ubers or looking at directions. I would'nt say I feel 'unsafe' I just feel more aware of being a possible target for crime than formerly. I don't know if this is due to being older or due to reading the press.
  4. Crab Salad In Peckham high street.. I reccomend Toby I don't know if he does colour however But I have friends who had colour done by Masie there and are very happy..and their colour looks great
  5. I'm pretty sure I've seen a guy that fits that description hanging around the area of LL in the past, I noticed him because he had a crazy look in his eye and was quite tall, skinny scruffy and dressed in black, looked like he was on drugs tbh..but the guy I recall was definately nearer 40 and his hair was balding in the centre somehow..in a kind of U shape. I just got a 'dont make eye contact' with him vibe. I hope they catch him soon its very scary..and I wish his victim a swift recovery.
  6. so happy to hear it..I think they struggled when they first opened as they were percieved as yet another Pizza place But I enjoyed my food there and thought it fairly priced too..I'm a real believer in supporting local independents running any buisness is tough these days especially in the hospitality sector.
  7. @beansproutwas it Dai Due Fratelli that you went to? It strikes me as beeing a real family run Italian..
  8. As someone who's gradparents on both sides were immigrants, and someone old enough to remember my parents fear and anxiety over Enoch Powell I am deeply distubed by the rise of the far right, anti immigration and general xenophobia I am witnessing in the UK and in the tabloid press. seeing the cross of St George flag makes me shudder...rightly or wrongly I read it as a pro white anti anyone not of pure white christian origins. Without immigrants this country would be sc**wed. No Nurses, Dr's Dentists for starters. I was born here but sadly I don't feel particularly at home here any longer.
  9. I donate to St Christophers which is a local charity that sadly looked after a friend of ours at the end of his life. It makes me angry to read here that the landlord increased the rent on the shop. There is also a really good charity shop for Sue Ryder next door to Sainsburys in Forest Hill- (I donate to them too..and rarely leave without making a purchase!) they do have some designer pieces at higher prices (Gucci, etc..which are usually in a cabinet in the window) but as a rule thier prices are very fair. I find 'Mary's save the Children' VERY overpriced much more so than StChristophers.
  10. https://lewisham.gov.uk/myservices/education/adult/find-a-course/fashion-and-textiles-courses Here's the link to the courses at Brockley rise. Very easy to get to you can take a 185 bus from Lordship lane, and its a 3 min walk from the junction with Standstead Road
  11. Really excellent sewing lessons at Lewisham Adult education on Brockley rise.. Highly reccomend
  12. Hopefully this press will mean the Lido and gym will start to see improvements though I must admit that my experience with Fusion when they ran Forest Hill pools does'nt bode well-
  13. Highly reccomend SE23 Podietry Near the Brockley Jack pub. P4 stops opposite I used to go to Woodwarde Rd but SE23 are way cheaper and a milliontimes better I've been going to them for around 5 years Allan (the owner) is incedible as are all their staff
  14. 🤣 After a horrible very long day at work I came home..read this post and laughed out loud....thank you! We made the error of visiting the one in Dulwich just after it opened...you missed nothing. I dont mind paying a bit more for something decent but honestly it was one of the most underwhelming badly cooked meals I've eaten, with an accompnayment of awful muzak and dire dire service . really overpriced too I agree.
  15. this makes me realise how the world has changed...in the 90's I lived in Chelsea which you'd assume was a pretty safe neighbourhood..One night someone stole my beautiful and heavy (they were made of stone or concrete) fully planted windowboxes from my windowsills..I lived in a raised ground floor flat with a pretty steep drop to the basement, They must have climbed over the railings on the stairs and onto the sill then passed them to an accomplice..Impossible to do this solo. They also stole a beautiful stone owl that I had on the sill. I reported the theft to the police-this was the days before ring doorbells etc-they came filed a report and description of the stolen goods AND I got a letter and phone call from victims support!
  16. 'Ollies' ick 🙄! Such a kind of psudo matey middle class branding..Is 'Ollie' Megan's estranged husband? Theres a lot of money being thrown at these shopfits then having them completely ripped out and refurbed after a few years just seems a bit desprate and wasteful. This is why I support independent buisnesses.
  17. it would be so nice to get a decent gaff in its place..
  18. As a slight woman in my mid 60's who's an avid walker I find these reports really upsettting and to be honest they put me off the idea of walking around the area for relaxation and pleasure like I used to. Most disturbing is the report of them threatening to kill someones dog and trying to kick it- I'm streetwise having been born and brought up in Notting Hill long before it was gentrified, and I lived in NYC for awhile in the 80's but there was'nt this senseless nastiness attacking and intimidating people for 'sport' that there seems to be now. Not long ago I had two females on a 185 bus just pushing me and cussing me for no reason whatsover-I confronted them about it and they carried on and started threatening to kill me...I honestly have no idea why. probably Just trying to intimidate me..another passenger advised me to get off because he could see they were jabbing me in the side and pushing me around-I did get off and realised I was actually really shaken up and scared they'd followed me. I dont know why there is so much anger and hatred in the world it saddens me.
  19. I had the same thing happen about a year ago... a couple of times in fact. I obviously react a lot less to posts than I used to because it has'nt happened again!
  20. have they got CCTV at the leisure centre? perhaps you could ask to see it.
  21. As a former Pug owner I get really upset and angry when I see owners of brachycephalic breeds (all bull dog breeds, pugs etc) taking them out in hot sun..Those breeds should be walked very early in the morning and at dusk ideally or if they need a pee just pop out for a moment or two..do NOT drag the dog around panting like a fur accessory. I REALLY want to 'have a word' with the owners but when i once did that a couple of years ago (frenchie pup being dragged along panting in the heat kept trying to lie down in obvious distress) its female owner told me to f-off and mind my own buisness so now I avoid the aggro.
  22. When I used to go to the one in Woodwarde road I found them expensive but not exceptional- They kept suggesting I have an acid treatment on my toenails which have a tendancy to become ingrown-I think it was many hundreds of pounds (about £400 5 or so years ago) when I found my current Podiatrist (who teaches at The Royal college of Podiatrists) he told me that A: that treatment was'nt foolproof and the nail could grow back and B: that he really did'nt reccomend it in my case. I also did'nt like how the charges at Woodwarde rd just kept getting higher and varied depending on whom was treating me.
