  1. Being only a part time driver I fell into the no entry trap on Rye Lane a few weeks ago. As soon as a realized what I'd done I stopped and tried to back up, then a bus drove up my back end and forced me on. I haven't seen a ticket yet but wouldn't be surprised if I got one soon. I'd be happy to contribute in writing if you wished to contest this as I think it's poorly signed for such a busy intersection. There is too much else to concentrate on especially if you don't know it's there.
  2. I believe a new pedestrian crossing is planned in the near future outside Somerfields
  3. Thanks for your opinion Joe. The cheap prices these chain stores sell at is because they've forced all of the cheap local stores out of business and taken over their stores. Now the only stores that can afford the rent in ED are either chain stores or high priced boutique local stores. If the chain stores weren't there you'd still have cheap prices, only it would be local stores competing with each other, not with chain stores. Think outside the square! As for your last comment about me "suddenly" popping up; if you'd actually bothered to follow this post from the beginning (as clearly you haven't) you would have noticed that I've made 7 other posts to this thread.
  4. YUMMY! - a locally owned Italian Restaurant in ED, what more could we ask for?! Ischia Rossa, come on down!
  5. There are some strange things going on in this post: 1) Whoever is posting as this estranged "phantom poster" has too much time on their hands, especially considering he/she is "batting for both teams" in their posts. Get a life and stop wasting our time. 2) The only class battle I'm reading here is by people that are posting saying they can't afford the supposed expensive shops that we "middle class" want in ED. The supposed "middle class" posters don't seem to be mentioning class. They're only really talking about the preferred look and type of the stores they would like to see in Lordship Lane, not the type of people they want to see in them. If you like Iceland for economic reasons then you'll voice your opinion, just as we have voiced ours, but do it without going into this class battle. I think some people are being a bit prejudice about us "middle class". Personally I don't care what class of person lives in ED. I don't come from a class segregated country such as England. So long as people live within the spirit of the ED community as it is today, not how it was 10 years ago, then all are welcome in my book. Variety is the spice of life! (this is also why I hate chain stores) Regards EDKiwi
  6. You're starting to bore me now Keith, the damage has been done. Learn from it and move on.
  7. Beatnic, while I applaud your "proceeds to charity" suggestion do we really need to have Google ad's on EVERY web site on the internet? It's quite refreshing not having stuff pushed in your face every time you hit a page on this site. I think it's one of the reasons I now use this site more than I use movethat.co.uk. It gives it more of a "for the people" community feel.
  8. The same technique's can be used to manipulate many other sites including one's you probably shop on with your credit card so it's probably not "just a poll".
  9. Google knows all - a search on "Dulwich hospital" and "shopping" or "debenhams" returns nothing relevant. Either this is the best kept secret in ED or it's RUBBISH. Based on the Ed's post about a fake email address being used I suspect it's the latter.
  10. I don't need to know you in order to know that if you are in security, you are a junior that has a lot to learn. The fact that you say you'd need to exploit it shows me that if you really are in the security business then I fear for your customers safety. If someone has accidentally left their front door open you wouldn't need to go into their house and steal everything in it to be able to point out to the owner of the house that they've got a security issue. You could just knock on the door and tell them that their front door is open and should be locked. I know I certainly wouldn't want any security expert telling me "guess what, I hacked into your system and stole all of your money" just to prove to me that all my money could be stolen. If penetration testers (a common internet based security test for you juniors) followed your "break it to prove it can be broken" methodology they would be out of business. If you really ARE in security then you would have known that. Your attitude only suggests to me that if you really DO have anything to do with security, it's to do with breaking it (or CRACKING - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cracker_%28computing%29)! Good luck at convincing me or anyone that you're nothing more than a black hat junior that thinks exploiting weaknesses in honest peoples web sites and telling them about it (only once the weakness has been detected) is a good thing.
  11. Michael, try the Drum on Northcross Rd (just across the rd from Blue Mountain) and Mon Petit Chou (across the rd from Somerfields on Lordship Lane). Both are great local businesses that serve great coffee (amongst other things) and you'll usually always get a seat.
  12. Any good security expert would know that you would NEVER break something just to prove that it can be broken. There are other ways to prove that something has a weakness without actually exploiting that weakness. What Keith has done is unethical and I'm sure he did it only to increase the votes of his local, the Vale (which is overpriced, stale and rubbish IMO). I'd bet he wouldn't have owned up had the fraud not been detected, and would have happily seen the Vale falsely awarded best pub in ED. Owning up was probably just an attempt at saving grace as his actions probably could have been traced back to him anyway.
  13. Fair comment Laura. I guess my point was that IMO I would only want another supermarket if it replaced an existing one as I think 3 on the Lane would be too many.
  14. Mark, it would be good if we could post images to this forum as well where relevant (i.e. selling stuff).
  15. Don't get ahead of yourself Yeknom. I didn't say I was wrong, I just apologized in case you and any other MySpace lovers were offended by my opinion. I reckon you're the only one though.
  16. Wouldn't it be nice if we as residents simply had more say as to the stores that could and couldn't set up shop in Lordship Lane? I believe that Northcross Rd is already governed by some sort of law that allows (very) local residents decide on the type of stores that open there, which is why it's so unique. Lordship Lane needs some mainstream stores, but as a resident I wouldn't like to think that all and any can come and open their doors here without any input from the locals. Personally I would like to see M&S, but only in place of one of the existing supermarkets (preferably Iceland). Again, too many high street chain stores will only turn LL into "just another London high street". As it stands we have to take the good with the bad. If M&S can open their doors in ED, then there's nothing to stop McDonalds, Tesco, BK, Weatherspoons etc all opening their doors. How would you feel about any of those stores being local? If we fight for the choice then we may be able to have the power to decide. Not just based on technicalities on planning laws, but based on what we as residents feel fit's into the spirit and image of ED. We need to petition our council members to fight give us this say. See my earlier post for details on how to do this.
  17. LOL, well spotted Mark! I didn't know EDT would stoop to that level. Personally I always found EDT had a great location, not bad food and RUBIISH service. I've been there time and time again and the consistantly bad (slow) service never ceases to let me down. Sufficed to say I've stopped going there now. Why bother when we have so many other great places to eat in ED.
  18. Well of course it's been created for people who embrace the technology! Who else would it have been created for; people that don't? I apologise for those of you that choose to defend Ruperts MySpace if I have offended you. All I'm saying is that there are much better and SAFER (just in case kids DO end up visiting these sites) places to embrace our community. Again I find myself repeating: Why does ED need MySpace when it has [www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk] or [www.movethat.co.uk]?
  19. [Original post removed]
  20. I don't work for the council, not even close. I'm a property owner and resident in ED, that's all. I love the area and care about the changes that happen to it. I want all residents to know how their voice can be heard otherwise the big business will just keep on coming, and all our misdirected complaints will not be heard and will not be able to stop it.
  21. MySpace is for 2 types of people: 1) looser kids & teenagers with nothing better to do with their time OR 2) the dirty pedophile men trying to pick them up. Why does ED need MySpace when it has http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk or http://www.movethat.co.uk/London/My/East_Dulwich/?p=0# ?
  22. Start on online petition here: http://www.gopetition.co.uk/howtowriteapetition.php Also see my (very long) post in the forum "Lordship Lane Gossip" regarding attending Community Council meetings. This is where all this planning stuff gets decided.
  23. The Palmerston is by far and away the BEST Sunday roast I've ever had, bar none. The Rye in Peckham Rye is also a great place to go, with nice big roasts, a beer garden and it's also a great place for families. Very trendy place but not too exe.
  24. Yes, it's not bad. Not as good as Sea Cow of course but still a good and simple place to get takeaways. The owner is really nice too.
  25. I think the main area we would like to see new "fancy" street lights would be Lorship Lane and Northcross Rd. Any chance this will be happening in the near future? While we're there how about new footpaths in Lordship Lane. The one's that are there now are appauling for such a nice high st.
