  1. I've got nothing against separatist sessions at the pool, or gay bars or anything that happens to be a place where people with a common interest can meet. I play cricket and love the fact that on Saturday evening's during summer the lads all end up back at the club house and share a few beers. Now while all are welcome at the club, it's there primarily for cricket players, all male, and that's the way we like it. Is the nanny state going to turn every establishment vanilla for fear of offending someone? What's the problem with having a gay bar, or a women only session? If it bothers you because you're not gay, or a woman, then bugger off to the abundance of non gay bar's or other pools in London. Now I'm off to play cricket with my mates (yes, I know it's winter, so I'm playing indoor) and if any tennis players want to come you can bugger off! Does that make me "sportist"?
  2. batdog, picking at someone's comments about making their business female friendly by trying to turn it into a sexist remark? Really...stop being so PC and get over yourself. There's a lot of prams in ED and I'm sure they find G&B to be an ideal shop. What's wrong with having a target market? Kate, I applaud your appearance on the EDF so explain things. I must admit I have only once been in to G&B once and didn't like the format. Mainly that it looked a bit plain (with your explanation I now completely understand why), as I like the warm feel of a good wine shop. I also thought the wine bar and shop were the wrong way around. The wine bar helps you offer something that other wine shops don't have. I think that should be exploited more. I expect the expansion will change my views of the store. I'm definitely going to give G&B another try.
  3. OK, you all win. Thanks for your feedback. I gave it back. DAMMIT!
  4. Anyone interested in the fact that Chris Dickson also is a kiwi sailor racing for America's Cup Team BMW Oracle. http://www.nzedge.com/newzedge/newzedge_clare/images/chris_dickson.jpg Anyone, anyone, Bueller?
  5. That's interesting Mark, I checked that application with Southwark and it was for a French restaurant. Not sure if it was approved and judging by this post, it wasn't and is now going to be a gym! There were people surveying on LL about 6-9 months ago asking residents if they wanted a gym locally. Thinking it was 116 I was all for it (as I was living about 50 meters away at the time. I WISH ALL THIS PLANNING WOULD END AND SOMEONE WOULD ACTUALLY OPEN THEIR DOORS SO ALL OF THESE MYSTERIES ON WHO IS OPENING WHERE COULD BE SOLVED!!!
  6. it's the large vacant (for many years) building on the corner of Bassano St and Lordship Lane opposite the shoe shop.
  7. expired
  8. it's probably 116. I've seen them apply to change it to a gym and physio about 6 months ago.
  9. expired
  10. I could be mistaking the site but I called the council about it (or maybe the old Unwins) a while back and the planning application was for an Indian takeaway. Just what we need. Well on the bright side it's a little different; not a restaurant but a TAKEAWAY!
  11. They should set up a Tesco on it...
  12. That article disgusts me. My petition against Nero opening was for exactly this reason. One store isn't really that big a deal, but it has set a precedent that will now make it easier for future stores to open.
  13. Well I didn't realise my slow start to the year would be noticed. Hello my fellow EDF'ers and a happy NY to you all. Yes I had a good Xmas break. In the end, feeling a little home sick, the Mrs and I opted for a tiki-tour of Wales. It was great. Welsh sheep don't fight back anywhere near as much as kiwi one's! SO we're talking of stepping out of our "Second Lives" and into the realm of the Lordship Lane?! Will we wear name badges that say "Hello, my name is: EDKiwi" OR what about a more 'interesting' anonymous badge "Hello, my name is: EDF Member"? Personally I think the former, as I think the accent will give me away regardless! Then again, I'm not sure if I should show at all. It's much easier to voice opinion and offend people when you're hiding behind a pseudo name. I might actually have to be NICE for a change!
  14. My aren't we touchy spade boy. Truth hurt? I'm sure I'm not the only one that read your message as genuine.
  15. Dulwich Hamlets FC has squash courts available for public use at a pretty good price. AND it's right next to Sainsbury's so you can pick up dinner afterwards!
  16. Anyone that thinks that an independent business operating in more than one location is a chain store is a MUPPET! Use your brain and some common sense. We all know what a real chain store is and we all know why so many people in ED don't want them. So drop the comments about a store like Moxon's being a chain store for your own sake!
  17. so far you're right Keef. Let's hope it stays that way.
  18. Yes, that would be the same Moxon's mentioned in this thread: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,26,page=3 in mid December.
  19. finally, now everyone can get over it!
  20. I found the food all a bit dry at Yilmaz.
  21. Yes, it's a "change of use" application from "light industrial" to "retail, A2". A2 refers to businesses such as financial services etc, NOT sale of food or clothing etc. If M&$ wanted it they would be applying for a change of use to A1. It's not M&S.
  22. - To be given more of a direct say by the powers that be about which stores can and can't open their doors in ED. - A boutique movie theatre - decent gym - with sauna and steamroom - within a quick walk of the busy end of LL. - expansion of the Northcross Rd markets - Fishmonger (alright we know this is already coming) - Rye Lane to "up and come" (I know it's Peckham but it affects ED)
  23. (?) Jeez, easy there Filiz. Did your flight get cancelled today or something...? (6)
