    Anyone single?

A supper club in Dulwich (or East Dulwich) sounds great. I just found this http://dulwichonview.org.uk/2008/05/20/dulwich-supper-club/ but it's a year old. Anyone know any more about it?
  2. Nancy Sinatra (I still know all the words to all her songs) Carpenters Seekers some African drummy music that went (ossa ossa oh, ossa ossa oh) that I can't remember or find, but really miss
  3. I'm 41 and considering another career change and trying to work out what to do with my life.
  4. I wonder how you find all the "regional forums" to which to send the "template".
  5. Bloody pipes. I also believe that water expands when it FREEZES rather than melts, but my hubby now tells me that water expands between 0 degs and 4 degs but he's quite often wrong so let's just ignore that.
  6. I'm crying with shame too at the knowledge I would have probably moved carriage. Please put a plea in Metro and London Lite as well as the South London Press. Your Samaritan deserves a thank you. Thank you SO much for sharing your story and prompting much soul-searching.
  7. I've painted my house number on the box and lids and they don't seem to go walkabout.
  8. I keep having a look at Rightmove and the house prices seem to be pretty similar to what they were last summer, strangely. However, they're not selling, as far as I can see. I think people are simply not getting mortgages at the moment. I bought somewhere two years ago with a 15% deposit and there were over 800 mortgages on offer. When I remortgaged a couple of months ago, a) the equity had vanished so I no longer had a 15% "deposit" and b) even when I put in more cash to reinstate a "deposit" there were only two, yes two mortgages available to me.
  9. If there were four of you in the car going to the O2, it would cost a quarter of what you quoted. If there were four of you on public transport, it would cost four times what you quoted. Public transport can't really "win" if there are multiple people wanting to get aound.
  10. Yes, this happened to me too - was lurking in the hall, dusting or something, card comes through the door saying sorry you were out but I caught the blighter red handed. I said, "you never knocked on the door" and he said yes I did and it went back and forth pointlessly. I KNOW he did not knock on the door. I wonder what they get out of it. Surely it would be quicker to do the delivery than waste all that time filling in a card and then lugging the parcel back to the van.

    Pramzillas

My point isn't about using prams. Clearly. It isn't even about when TWO prams are proceeding abreast and filling the entire pavement. It is when two prams filling the pavement make no effort to move into single file to allow another pedestrian to use the pavement at the same time. It happens often, actually, and I am fed up having to step off into the gutter without so much as a "thank you" or an "excuse me". Good gracious.

    Pramzillas

I'm fed up with them. Why can't they go into single file when they see an oncoming pedestrian? And why do they have to force their way into shops with little aisle space? I don't mind prams per se, just a little courtesy to non-pram-pushers wouldn't go amiss.

    Petty Annoyances

Oh thank you Ruffers that has reminded me of another thing to be annoyed about. People who can't say "ask" and instead say "arks". What is it with that? Arse-kuh. How hard is it?

    Petty Annoyances

Radio presenters who sit too close to their microphone so you can hear their tongue sliming around inside their mouths. The worst is Sally Traffic on R2. Kids that answer back when you're pointing out what was unacceptable about their behaviour. Calling the Nationwide Building Society and having to choose an option that isn't what you want, over and over again until you have to throw the phone down in an unsatisfied rage The trains at Peckham Rye always being a minute or two late. People who lean on the poles in a busy tube so you can't hold onto it so you have to force your hand between the pole and their back and flex it so your knuckles dig into their back (maybe I should pluck up the courage just to say, "excuse me, can I hold onto this pole please?") Never being able to park anywhere near my own flat near the Herne on Sundays. People on the phone saying "bear with me". Chavs. People that drive too close up my rear. The smell of the meat shops near Peckham Rye station so I have to hold my breath when walking past them. The fact that the Co-op on FHR runs out of milk every Sunday night. Sort out your stock levels. God I'm a grumpy old bat.
  15. I found it far, far quicker to ride my bike into the City from here. Not good when it's dark and cold though. I reckon the 40 is a good bet.
  16. Completely agree that a family room would be great, at least so that we childless can avoid it.

    Ealing

Tee hee! I have had so many terrible experiences with tradesmen in various parts of the country and it has been pure bliss to think, "oh need a plumber, let's go and see who everyone recommends". It makes life so much easier. One builder in Plymouth charged me ?10k to install a bathroom, did it badly, adn then took me to court to get the money when I only gave him ?4k.
  18. Well I can belatedly chip into this one: I also had ?400-odd taken out of my account in Canada. I can't remember which shops I had been using my card in though. I have to admit I always pay for petrol with cash these days because of all the publicity about cameras in the ceiling in petrol stations.

    Ealing

I am to move to Ealing fairly soon and cannot bear the thought of not having a resource as marvellous as the East Dulwich Forum through which to get and give recommendations. How on earth does one set about finding a plumber in W5? Or finding out what's going on when there's a local hoo-haa? How will I sell all my old bits of crap? How will I buy more bits of crap? Would the administrator consider setting up an Ealing Forum? The area's chock-full of BBC-types, so I'm sure there'd be lots of traffic.
  20. I went to a faith school myself (Catholic convent) and we had girls of several other denominations and indeed religions at it. I can remember at least four Muslim girls in my class and a couple of Indian girls whom I believe were Hindu. The Catholics had to go to Mass on holy days and everyone else had the choice of going to chapel or doing private study. I can't understand why people are so threatened by faith schools.
  21. Yes, it was a dog mauling. I was at the computer in the back of my flat (opposite the site of the attack) and heard screaming but assumed it was the kids next door/passersby. When my partner and I eventually stirred ourselves to have a look (at least a minute later), we saw a poor woman crouched on the road clutching a toddler into her with a Staffordshire Bull Terrier mauling the kid. I went in to shout to my partner and call the emergency services, my partern went and got a weapon to beat the dog off (a broomstick) and we went back out with me on the phone to emergeny services. The dog was still mauling the kid and the motehr was still screaming. I spoke to the emergency services and tons of people piled out to beat off the dog. Someone used a hoover, a broomstick, feet, but the dog hung on..Eventually a neighbour ripped the kid off the dog and ran with her into a neighbouring flat and the dog went away. It was so muscly and aggressive and it would not be beaten off. Scary. I called for the police as did lots of other neighbours and several cars arrived, as did an ambulance. Apparently the Staffy had attacked my neighbours' kdis in teh morning and another three girls earlier, so it was aggressive. Anyway, the kid seemed ok but very, very pale and the owners strangely unconcerned about their out-of-control "fighting" dog that they choose to inflict on the neighbourhood. Police had put us down as witnesses for Dangerous Dogs trial
  22. Welcome to the area. Second what's been written except I wouldn't bother with the co-op as its stock control is rubbish. They seem to run out of red wine and milk on a regular basis. You're nearer the small Tesco anyway. I've been here nine years and the worst that's happened [touches wood] is someone nicked the lid off my blue box and someone threw an egg at the front window. Oh and there's boys riding their bikes on the pavements with no regard for pedestrians, but that's about your lot.
  23. I see Barry's DIY shop on Forest Hill Road is bedecked with lights, cameras and a cold-looking crew. Apparently they're filming a commercial there! Wonder what they're advertising.
  24. Hi there administrator I just posted a post and clicked on "post message" and it just showed me a preview. This happened a couple of times. Then I clicked on "preview" and it posted the message! Not sure if it's my computer or your system, but I just thought you'd like to know.
  25. Question for the moderator: last week I posted a holiday recommendation in the Wanted Offered and Recommendations topic and it was immediately lounged. This is fair enough, but today I notice that there are two other holiday recommendations (cottages for rent) in the same topic which have not been lounged. Would you mind letting me know what the difference is between my holiday recommendation and these other two that led to it being lounged? Thanks.
