Denmark Hill vaccination center - parking
hammerman replied to katezerooo's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just to say there is a private carpark just where the garden centre used to be years ago which I had forgotten about. The ex garden centre car park is now some kind of private car park. I was on a bus the other day going down to Camberwell and saw a bit of a scuffle with people arguing and getting out of their cars in the middle of the Denmark Hill junction! -

Complicated! I really feel for people applying to secondary schools in the area these days. Sports, music, maths and arts scholarships? Whatever that means. Kingsdale has certainly changed. -
Thanks for the toilet language Seabag.

Denmark Hill vaccination center - parking
hammerman replied to katezerooo's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Parking anywhere near to King's College Hospital is more or less impossible. It used to be ok around 5/6 years ago but the parking zones brought in by Lambeth and then Southwark are the reason it is now impossible. The 42, 468, 176 bus stops are just outside and Denmark Hill train station is a 5 minute walk away. -
I don't think Matt is trying too hard. It's just the people he comes across who say he is doing a bad job. Good for him that he can go for a jog and just get on with the job in hand. He must be thinking what a turncoat is Cummings.

Totally agree Tiddles! It seems like Southwark Council are run by people who want to bring in rules for this and that (Will Norman, who lives in East London, take note) but wait until it hits their own living and working area! Southwark Council also seem unable to keep on top of their housing stock.

Sorry I'm a Londoner born and bred but I know what you mean.

So, what do people think?

Anyone can drive a bike wherever they want as I have witnessed many times lately i.e. on pavements, jumping traffic lights etc. and Southwark and Lambeth are clambering to accommodate this in their scenarios. Unfortunately they are leaving out car and bus driver routes which have been in place for many years. I passed my driving test age 19 in 1982. I feel sorry for youngsters in the same position nowadays.

It is all a bit bonkers and you would think Southwark would let you drive through one of their recently restricted areas on a Bank Holiday Monday like most parking restrictions, but no, boom, they've got another unsuspecting person having to pay ?65. All on top of their recently bought in Covid restricted areas as well with people struggling to make ends meet.

The article you posted malumbu has nothing to do with Question Time last night except that it had Bercow in it. I think we all need to be thankful for the vaccine that has helped this country to be proud of the fact that we are more or less Covid free.

There was a report in the Southwark News and the South London Press this week about how many shops and businesses are being affected by the sudden closure of Rye Lane to buses and traffic. This suddenly happened in July last year with no prior warning to those businesses and people who lived and worked in the area. Rye Lane has always been served by buses and people rely on these buses to help them with their shopping and just to be part of the area. As a regular shopper by bus to Rye Lane, I have reluctantly had to give this up as I can no longer get there safely as part of a health problem. Many shops in the area have suffered since Southwark Council suddenly made Rye Lane a no go area. Southwark Labour MPs in the area should be holding their heads in shame for the inconvenience and lack of action to get the area back on its feet.

Robert Kenrick held his ground when surrounded by a panel and audience that were typically put in place by the BBC.

I would love to discuss but these last three pages seem to have a majority view by three or four posters so goodnight!

Dulwich Hamlets - any information good or bad?
hammerman replied to amlh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Do you mean the Dulwich Hamlet Junior School in Dulwich Village original poster? I'm assuming your 7 year old is attending the Dulwich Village Infants school. I can't believe that you know nothing about either school as they are both very hard to secure a place at. -
Very interesting tonight to see John Bercow (grey hair and all) on the Question Time panel on the BBC tonight. As an ardent remainer in the EU when he had his position in the houses of parliament, he seemed to be given so much time to air his views. There were another motley crew of people on the panel who were allowed by Fiona to attack Robert Kenrick. What do people think?

Looks like it's between the Conservatives and Labour. Khan is such a fast talking fraud (does he not talk on autocue).

Very galling to find out my Carer's Allowance has been increased by just 35p per week for the coming year ahead. So in 2020 the Carer's Allowance was ?67.25 per week. It has now been increased to ?67.60 for April 2021. Four years ago the rate was around ?62 when I gave up my job to help care for somebody. I am lucky that I have family members to support me financially whilst I look after somebody but it must be very hard for somebody who doesn't have that support. Who is the best person to help with this in the coming London mayor elections?
