  1. Budgens has been around for about 30 years I think
  2. I've just realised that Man City will go into pot 2 of the CL draw and Spurs into pot 3. In spite of Spurs finishing 3rd and City finishing 4th. Apparently co-efficients based on the last 5 years of European competiton determine this. How is this even approaching fair? Surely it's just designed to keep the established European teams in the competitions at the expense of newer teams trying to break in. Grossly unfair.
  3. I tended to spend time at the sound systems rather than watching the carnival itself. I imagine it feels fantastic being a part of the parade :) Out of curiosity I did a google search on NHC crime problems, as it's years since I last went and if it had become relatively much safer i would have reconsidered. But it seems last year's crime figures were the worst in a decade including a Policeman being stabbed.
  4. I'm not old and past it, I love a music festival/celebration as much as and probably more than the next man. I've just had bad experiences the two times i've been. Rather than a big celebration, it felt like groups of youths intent on intimidation and not just in isolated incidences. I hope anyone going has an amazing time, truly. It's just not for me.
  5. It's so frustrating that all chippy's can't get it right. It can't be rocket science- there are only so many variables (type of potato, type of oil, temperature of oil, number of different oils/temps, number of times frying in each for a certain time in each).
  6. Every town in Germany (I know Maastricht is Holland, but close to border) has February carnival. So much fun, particularly if it's snowing. That's when Gluhwein really comes into its own.
  7. Been a couple of times and both times been 'rushed' by groups of youths punching their way through the crowd. Literally lashing out with fists randomly as they pushed through.

Did they have a big refurb or something? It's a couple of years since i've been. Good fish and chips indeed London generally is relatively poor for fish and chips. North London tends to be better in my opinion. I used to live in Finchley and Two Brothers (in Finchley) and Toffs in Muswell Hill were genuinely decent. For obvious reasons, fish and chips at the seaside are generally so much better. Best i've ever had were the chip van on the pier on the Isle of Mull and Pete's Fish n Chips in Margete (best i've ever had anywhere, so so good) a couple of weeks ago.
  9. Pugwash Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Emily's on Noeth Cross Road. Ahmed is a delightful > fellow and food always taste good Ahmed is indeed a delightful fellow but his fish and chips are truly awful. The worst i've ever had anywhere. He keeps telling you that he's making fresh chips for you, over and over and over again but i'm standing there watching him put previously cooked chips back in the oil to reheat. They come out completely limp and tasting of stale oil unsurprisingly. The batter on the fish is sloppy and horrible too.

I think the best thing Fallon and the Lib Dems can do right now is stay out of the headlines. The main party political headlines is a crowded space right now. If I were them i'd bide my time, see the outcome of the Labour leadership election and then come to the fore with a response to that.

And even the parcel service is (or should be) more or less redundant due to their pricing points and convenience. There are much cheaper and more reliable parcel services such as My Hermes. They offer a courier service for a much cheaper price than the PO's track and trace parcel service and there's usually a local convenience store, open late that acts as a drop off point for sending parcels. You can book it all online, including printing the labels. The Royal Mail's prices are frankly disgusting.

  13. In my experience All the Old Sch(k)ool cafes serve the same nasty cheap as possible stuff. Horrible sausages, cheap watery baked beans, value ketchup and brown sauce that basically just tastes like vinegar but disguised in old Heinz and HP bottles. But, unless you want to pay a tenner for a full english, that's what you'll get. I'd love to know of a middle ground option if there is one. Duck Egg Cafe do a good range of brekkies and their full english isn't bad value, but same again with the sauces. Oooh, just dawned on me, i know of a decent one! The Park Cafe on Peckham Rye common. Proper cumberland sausages, really good bubble and squeak, genuine HP sauce and about ?6. There's your answer! As long as you can deal with 'modern hands off parenting' (a.k.a. kids running around being a pain the arse and doing exactly what they want).
  14. One day Louisa will have an epiphany and come crash landing into the 21st Century. Hating buses isn't an excuse my dear. I assume your 'other things to be getting on with' is moaning on here? Get yourself a smart phone and you can get on with those things on the bus ride :)
  15. There's already one on Lordship Lane though, a five minute bus ride away- why the need for two?
  16. Oriental Star on Upland Road has always been good. Mr Liu on Lordship Lane isn't bad either.
  17. That reminds me; I need to get a new Detector of Csrbon Monoxide

I'd be all up for the going back to the old format. Only the Champions playing in the 'Champions' league and everyone else in the Europa. The UEFA Cup used to be such a fantastic tournament. Today's is a pale imitation.

  23. What a long way German wine has come since the 70s!! They make some amazing Rieslings now.
  24. I'm not sure it will happen. It takes away one of the fundamental things that makes European sport great and separates it from the US way of doing things. Promotion and relegation. I just can't see enough clubs agreeing to it. Also, the Premier League is such a massive money spinner in it's current form. The new super-league would have to be at least as equally lucrative to the premier league clubs and even then it would be taking away the huge financial advantage they have over the other European leagues. I just can't see the big premier league clubs giving up that advantage.
